Things About Hitman You Just Found Out

People are overlooking Contracts in this ‘suspicion meter’ discussion. It has, in my opinion, the most balanced version of its three implementations.

Let’s face it, SA’s suspicion meter on Pro is plainly bullshit. To say otherwise is just talking with nostalgia goggles. If it was at least consistent then sure we could at least plan our approach to each situation but the problem lies in the fact that it is completely random. Sometimes you’ll walk by with just a bit of flashing red on your HUD and sometimes you’ll be half man half bullet. Add on top that you can’t even save besides the extras you get in Tubeway and Shogun, and it equals to mass frustration. Yes I am ready for the ‘git gud casual’ counter-argument but no one can convince me they actually like the sus meter on Pro.

Blood Money had one aswell that was so absurdly lenient even on Pro that I’m convinced it’s bugged. You can hang around a guard for a solid minute and only then will he think ‘hmm maybe this guy is a bit suspicious’ before eventually opening fire on you.

Contracts hits the golden middle of the spectrum. Run near a guard and you can expect to make him angry. Run somewhere in the distance but still within his sightlines and of course he won’t be bothered. Walk past him, you’ll get by fine. It’s a system you can rely on and plan for unlike the chaos that rules in SA.

If I may add to the conversation.

As much as I like to launch Hitman 2016 from time to time to play with professional mode, I feel that it’s less that the difficulty of the games was tone down and more that the focus of the game, the game philosophy shifted.

The games still have difficulty (in the “require attention, knowledge, memory, and intent from the players” sense) but it’s not in the 30 second loop (avoid detection from this guard) anymore, but in the long one (how do I do the challenges).
And honestly I think it’s a good decision, if the short-time gameplay was difficult to the point of frustrating the long-time one it would be just that, frustrating.

In the previous games, the short-time gameplay was important because it brought the core of the satisfaction of the game : still finishing the level with nothing more than small burst of blunders and actions, but hey no reason to replay each level vastly differently each time, just more and more perfectly.

The other loops are unchanged, we still have the shortish “how do I traverse/retrieve items/knock this guard in this room”, and longer “what will be the narrative of this run” (even if I feel this one was expanded, and more and more refined as the WoIT went on).

At best the current trilogy will make us toe the line of detections and some small burst of actions more and more, with more and more obtuse challenges (and even more in the escalations) but always as a consequence of seeking the longer goal, the reverse of the previous games where seeking the perfect no detection made us have a good run as the consequence.

I would appreciate if we had the equivalent of professional mode, or change to the Hitman III levels in master mode (the Ascentionist NPCs routines in main campaign mission, when ?).
But I feel like it’s just currently not at the core of the gameplay, not in the World of Assassination Trilogy as it shaped itself as the years passed. So not (anymore) at the forefront when the question of “what could change or add to the game” is asked at IOI.

Maybe we should open a new topic to discuss this, we are really starting to be away from “things you have just found out”.

Aaaaahhh, so that was the staged death they talked about in Haven. I was really confused for a moment. Thanks for clearing it up!

Today I learned that any map that has someone using a photographer camera to take photos has its “Time of Day” set to daytime, which turns off a lot of exterior lights on whatever map you’re on. THIS MEANS that The Author is meant to have the mansion and various public lights turned on

Usually 50% of these lights are off. I have not touched a single thing related to The Author. Just put in a file changing the general photographer’s camera entity (modded by Atampy)

Maybe you actually prefer these lights off, for the sense of the town feeling more dead. But whether you like it or not this is how it looks when that one bug is removed

Huh. That’s one of the weirder things I’ve seen come out of this game, level-design wise. I wonder why it’s tied to that one NPC’s appearance, and removing them triggers the lights to turn on/off…?

Saw this post on reddit and put it to test.

Guess what, Caruso is scared to death of clowns.

I think a mechanic like this should only be in professional dififculty as it will just decrease freedom for most players.

I knew this worked with the plague doctor disguise, but this one is totally new to me, nice find!

Time for a “street performer only” run! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Just checked in Hitman 2 and it is only the two guards. They do talk, and it is about looking out for intruders too, but not a looping detailed conversation that the trio have in 3.

Also the NPC names are carried over, but one of the character models (the one on the left in that photo) has completely changed.

Does this mean there’s a new NPC in the map? Or did IOI just relocate an existing one?

Are they talking about something “important”? Like story relevant?

As of now, the Imperial Classic is the only short-sleeved Formal suit.

This is the Summer Suave watch enlarged.

there’s condensation from 47’s breath in the hazmat suit. love the detail, though i couldn’t determine if it changes over time or not.

It’s funny how just bc it’s a 3 piece suit it’s categorised in formal (cashmerian, imperial classic). They are both just suits; neither are formal wear, but as times change and the vest becomes less and less common people consider it fancier than they once did.

I’d also say classic all black is not formal.

I would agree that neither the Cashmerian, Imperial Classic nor Classic Black suits would technically count as formal attire. However, the Formal category would feel a little sparse if only the tuxedos remained. And the Classic category would start to look very bloated indeed!

I suppose it’s always a case of where to draw the line. If we were being fully traditionalist about this, even the tuxedos would fail to meet requirements because they do not feature white ties. Then the Formal category would be empty. On balance, I think the current arrangement works well.

“Black tie” is formal too, just a rung below “white tie.”

I hadn’t thought about how lopsided the categories would be though.

These days, yes. But if we looked at the 19th century origins of the black tie, we would see that it was quite literally considered to be informal dress. I’m not being entirely serious, just illustrating the point that conventions evolve over time.

Let’s go back to bolt on collars!!! Everyone in tails all the time! Yea man! Someday what we call workout apparel will be formal :joy:. I’m happy I’ll be dead by then.

Combing through the RPKG PC files of Hitman 3 to get some high-quality images of the locations, there are some really interesting file names that I had no idea were called so internally at IOI at one point.

The Sniper Assassin mission codenames are under
Hawk for Himmelstein
Seagull for Hantu Port (or “Salty” elsewhere)
Falcon for Siberia. (or “Caged Falcon”)

The menu image for Patient Zero Campaign is called “White_Spider”

Isle of Sgail is called “The Island” in some places and “North Sea” in another

My favourite remains the H2SA beta, where The Motorcade Interception seems to have originally been called Turban Legend Take-Out. Immortalized by the username of yours truly. No idea who came up with that name or what they were smoking, but they nailed it.
