Ranking Every Map In The HITMAN Trilogy

Not the hotel, the album. It might be in the target briefing for Jordan, but I actually have a copy of the vinyl record they put out as a promo and it’s titled Providence on the sleeve. I’m sure its listed as the album title on the soundcloud release and twitter posts for the band’s songs too.

Here’s a photo of the vinyl record that was released in 2016…

That image is taken from The Class twitter account. The band’s SoundCloud page also includes ‘Providence’ as the name of the album in the track titles…

This blog post gives some information about the creation of The Class and their fictional album. It includes comments from Felix Diekhake, the real writer of the songs (sorry Jordan Cross).

And finally, here’s another version of the album cover taken from their Bandcamp page

When I received a Like Notification on my original list, I quickly decided that I had to redo it, since I disagree with quite alot of the spots now, though here’s the new one.

Feel like my list is going to be the strangest and the most irrational, because I never look at the map size, gameplay possibilities, etc. I may like/dislike something for completely crazy and strange reasons.

I think those maps which are popping up in my mind when I’m thinking about WoA trilogy are the best for me. So here we go.

From best to worst:

  1. Colorado
This map has the highest score on my acc (and I just didn’t count all offline sessions).
And I also made Colorado map in Sims4 a few years ago, lol. So this map gets the 1st place

  1. Whittleton Creek
  2. Berlin (the best in H3 for me)
  3. Romania/Carpathian Mountains(lol)
  4. Miami
  5. Isle of Sgail
  6. Mumbai
  7. New York
  8. Paris
  9. Santa Fortuna
  10. Dubai
  11. Sapienza
  12. Dartmoor
  13. Marrakesh
  14. Mendoza
  15. Haven Island
  16. Hokkaido
  17. Hawke’s Bay
  18. Chongqing
  19. Bangkok

Paris was my first taste of Hitman. By the time Sapienza was released, I had killed Victor and Dahlia in every way possible and it’s been my favourite map ever since. I still play it, played it last night…

However this might be ‘because it’s new’ but I think this has changed…

  1. Berlin
  2. Paris
  3. Miami
  4. Sapienza
  5. Mumbai

Absolutely loving Berlin. Haven’t had this much fun with the game for a while. I could see Argentina breaking into this list too after I play it a bit more. But yeah Berlin, love everything about it, such a great mission. Other notable mentions are New York, Haven Island and the Situs Inverse mission.

1.Berlin (a.k.a “another [actually good] mission” @SilentWraith )

I might switch some of the highest positions after playing the H3 maps more, but there shouldn’t be any really significant changes.

Apart from Romania, which is frankly an excuse of a mission and doesn’t do the franchise justice by closing the trilogy in such a lazy way, i actually like all other main missions pretty much the same. Every map has something to enjoy, be it its atmosphere, its opportunities for exploration or its attention to detail. I tend to play every map, jumping from one to another with no problem. Even in Colorado and Marrakesh, that seem to be universally despised, i still find plenty of enjoyment.

I just wish the sniping point in Colorado (water tower) got playtested a little more during development. It’s hardly a sniping point if it’s so easy to get spotted and alert the whole camp, even with a silenced rifle… but other than that, i’m fine.

It was playtested, but not every time the AI got updated. :stuck_out_tongue:

They changed the sniping with Hitman 2 and from what I heard this issue is still persistent with Hitman 3 even though it was reported over and over (I know I did) and they didn’t solve the issue…

Yeah, you have to exit the vantage point immediately after taking the shot, otherwise within 20 or so seconds you’re stuck there surrounded for eternity (or untill killing everyone lol).

He, didn’t think about that. Well, time for IOI to fix it again then.

This is going to be controversial but I find Chongqing the worst level in the WOA trilogy. Getting to mastery level 20 was so tedious. I completed every challenge in Chongqing but I just feel so disappointed by the lack of content. The city felt like a lackluster filler to me. I didn’t find the target locations very exciting either. The targets felt one-dimensional. Outside of one scripted event, they have nothing to do with each other. The mission stories felt long and dull.

A lot of people hate on Colorado, Bangkok, and Marrakesh but those missions had exciting kill opportunities despite their flaws.

What I do love about Chongqing is the atmosphere, restaurant, and the distant skyline

Not sure if I would call it the worst level in the trilogy. The level design is still great, much better than Bangkok or Colorado, but yeah, otherwise I can relate. They tried a twist on the city level formula, which ultimately resulted in a disappointment for those of us who were hoping for a H3 Marrakesh/Mumbai/Sapienza. There’s a lot of things I like/love about the level (the visuals and music being the most prominent), and I do enjoy playing it, but the overall emphasis on and omnipresence of the ICA element (not to mention a very much absolute lack of non-ICA indoor areas) always irks me when I play it.

And agreed on the targets. I do appreciate their characterization a bit more than upon release (when I elaborated on my disappointment more in a different thread), but the lack of more interesting/unique (new) kill opportunities is one thing I’m having a hard time getting over (and it’s an issue I find more generally present in H3, aside from Mendoza, and Dartmoor perhaps). The fact that both targets also share a unique individual kill (poisoned room) only emphasizes this. I do enjoy the sniper kill and Royce’s “firing” machine though.

So yeah, said it before and will say it again. Here’s hoping for that bonus mission that will cut the ICA element, focus on the city bits and (at least partially) remedy it :crossed_fingers: The deluxe escalation showed that there is potential.
