Ranking Every Map In The HITMAN Trilogy

I’m still working my way through Hitman 3, but here’s how everything would stack up so far.

  1. Sapienza
  2. Berlin
  3. Chongqing (only 1 run)
  4. Marrakech
  5. Hokkaido
  6. Santa Fortuna
  7. New York
  8. Dubai
  9. Whittleton Creek
  10. Paris
  11. Dartmoor (only 1 run)
  12. Miami
  13. Haven
  14. Bangkok
  15. Isle of Sgail
  16. Mumbai
  17. Hawke’s Bay
  18. Colorado

I have yet to play Mendoza or Carpathian.
So far all the Hitman 3 levels are excellent. I have yet to try the famous detective approach in Dartmoor, so that ranking will likely change with subsequent playthroughs.

This should have been a poll!

Make one please, that would be interesting to see.

I’ve had this ranking sitting on my computer for a while, so I figure I could share it. Doesn’t include Hitman 3 as I have not played it, and even if I did I wouldn’t include its levels because I’ve noticed that I tend to rank the levels I played more recently higher than some I haven’t played in a while. I also haven’t played Patient Zero (don’t own it) or two of the special assignments (never bothered to as I know how terrible both are)

I consider the Showstopper to be the quintessential Hitman level, nearly perfect in every regard. It’s an amazing start to the trilogy.

Situs Inversus would probably rank #2 or #3 if the targets weren’t so boring, purely because I think the level design itself is on par if not better than Showstopper.

Chasing a Ghost’s setting is a bit too maze-like but the targets themselves (especially Rangan and Kale) are just perfection in terms of their stories and kills. And of course the Kashmirian mission story is downright the best mission story in the series. If one of the legacy levels was designed solely around a similar gimmick it would easily rank among the best in the series and yet Mumbai has so much more to offer.

The Ark Society is another one that would rank much higher if the targets weren’t bland. This is swiss cheese design at its finest.

Golden Handshake is just uniquely fun to play despite its small size (which is one of its strengths in my opinion) and limited traversal options. I’ve always preferred condensed levels over the sprawling mega-levels that are so numerous in WOA.

World of Tomorrow is beloved by the community and rightfully so. The main reasons for its #2 spot are the virus and the relative uselessness of the town. Still though, walking around is weirdly calming. The kills available are some of the best in the series and unearthing Silvio’s fascinating backstory piece by piece is such a unique experience.

I think this is enough writing, don’t have much to say about the rest.

Series Top 10

Might aswell share these two, first is the overall Top 10 in the series (really tried to squeeze legacy levels in there, despite a lot of the WOA levels being objectively better), while the other is the Top 5 list for each game. Both again exclude H3.

Map rankings, from Amazing to Crap:

AMAZING:
Paris
Sapienza
Hokkaido
Miami
Isle of Sgail
Mendoza

GOOD:
Freeform Training
Marrakech
Hawke’s Bay
Santa Fortuna
Mumbai
Whittleton Creek
New York
HAVEN Island
Dubai
Dartmoor
Chongqing

BAD:
Guided Training
Bangkok
Colorado
Berlin
Carpathian Mountains

CRAP:
None. All of the maps have their merits.

Overall, I actually think Hitman 2 had the best maps and Hitman 3 has the worst. I know people rave about Berlin, but I find it underwhelming and dull. 47 being hunted by a bunch of useless assassins in a crummy nightclub is far beneath him and a waste of a proper level.

And the Carpathian Mountains being advertised as a sixth location is very sneaky of IO. I hope everyone who ever slagged off the wonderful Hawke’s Bay mission can appreciate it as a proper sandbox when compared to that damned train.

Even though I like all maps, I rank them depending of the number of time I replay a map. S tier means I play these maps most of the time, whereas F tier corresponds to the maps I play less often.

Mendoza is the one map I haven’t fully explored yet, I’ve only reached Mastery level 8 on it thus far.

what are you talking about, bangkok is so good, and it’s like a Gellert (vagyis bocsanat, Gallard) 2.0

The layout of the map is very restrictive and awkward. There are very few ways to navigate the hotel, especially in suit only runs. There is one impossible to reach camera terminal and tons of cameras. Ken Morgan is my least favorite target in the trilogy because of his boring route, lame/tedious kills, and bland personality. The map itself doesn’t feel very fleshed out. There’s a lot of underused space and it feels like there’s something missing. The music is reused from Paris, there are a few infamous challenges, I’m not a fan of the setting, and there are very few exits. The bonus missions and the escalations are also lackluster.

But that’s just me. Glad you enjoy it.

You repeated the same sentence 2 times, and i can’t really argue with what you feel.

Ken Morgan is my least favorite target in the trilogy because of his boring route, lame/tedious kills, and bland personality.

Ken Morgan isn’t a great target, but Jordan Cross makes up for it, easily the best target in the game. As far as i know Jordan Cross is the only target that isn’t related to the Illuminati, and the client is just someone who’s pissed their daughter died.

The music is reused from Paris

Didn’t notice it, it’s boring.
What i did notice, and wasn’t used from Paris, is “Are We Stars”.

there are a few infamous challenges

i can only think of Tuppence a Wish, but i don’t know how challenges influence the quality of the level.

I’m not a fan of the setting

Can’t argue with that.

and there are very few exits

No? 2+1 is enough for such a small (surface) map

The bonus missions and the escalations are also lackluster

I hate all escalations, so that doesn’t mean anything to me.
I’d consider the bonus mission the 3rd best (After The Icon and Patient Zero)

There is one impossible to reach camera terminal and tons of cameras

I know there’s a locked room with a terminal, but it can be easily opened by distracting the guards (or with lockpick/keycard).
Tons of cameras isn’t a bad thing, i’d even call that a good thing.

There are very few ways to navigate the hotel, especially in suit only runs

ONLY in suit only runs.

Technically the client is someone pissed their daughter died, but the shadow client pulling the strings gave them the information to draw out Jordan’s father, Thomas Cross, who is a Providence member. So his murder is very much Illuminati related. There’s a even a fun nod to this, with the album The Class are recording at the hotel being called Providence.
