XR Games - in collaboration with IO Interactive
is thrilled to announce that it is developing and publishing ‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ - a new VR version of the multi-million selling title ‘HITMAN 3’ - available exclusively for Meta Quest 3.
Rebuilt from the ground up for VR, ‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ marks a significant milestone in the HITMAN series, by leveraging the power of Meta Quest 3 to deliver a truly immersive untethered experience.
Bringing dual-wielding to the series for the first time, increased interactivity, a completely overhauled user interface, and enhanced movement mechanics, ‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ delivers an incredible HITMAN VR experience for HITMAN veterans and new players alike.
‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ to include
Dual-Wielding: A series first, ‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ introduces dual-wielding, allowing players to use two weapons or items simultaneously, adding a new dimension to strategic gameplay.
A brand new cel-shaded art-style: See Agent 47 in a whole new light with a stunning new cel-shaded visual style.
Enhanced Interactivity: Experience a new level of realism with interactive environments that respond to every action.
Overhauled user interface: HITMAN 3’s UI has been completely redesigned for VR, ensuring intuitive control and navigation.
Improved movement options: ‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ now offers fluid and natural locomotion options, making it easier than ever to navigate complex environments with speed and stealth.
Many more improvements throughout: From visual enhancements to refined gameplay mechanics, this is the most immersive untethered HITMAN VR experience to date.
“We are excited to partner with IO Interactive to bring ‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ to life on the Meta Quest 3,” said Bobby Thandi, Founder and CEO of XR Games. “Our teams have worked tirelessly to bring this huge AAA franchise to VR. We knew the HITMAN audience demanded the absolute best VR experience, and only the Meta Quest 3 could power such large environments, dense crowds and emergent sandbox gameplay. With dual-wielding, a stunning new art-style, new features and improvements, we believe ‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ will set a new standard for bringing AAA franchises to Meta Quest.”
‘HITMAN 3 VR: Reloaded’ will be available exclusively on Meta Quest 3. Stay tuned for more updates and prepare to step into the world of Agent 47 like never before.
Time will tell to see if this fixes any issues the existing PCVR crowd has had, but the one note of “enhanced environmental interactivity” sounds promising.
Like, you should be able to roleplay a little and pick up some wine glasses at a fancy party if you so choose…
(Exciting announcement that IOI isn’t done with big things for Hitman 3, but still… and here I was holding out hope we’d get a PSVR2 port…
Nope. Just a revamped game it seems for an exclusive device. Interesting though limited.)
Two words: Dual wielding. Never thought the day would come. Suddenly the Codename 47 remake doesn’t seem unrealistic now haha
Also…cel-shaded? I wonder if that’s because of this VR headset’s limitations? It’s an interesting choice and I’m eager to see it. Might feel kind of like walking around in a comic book?
I don’t have a VR set, and don’t intend to have one. But I’m curious to see those changes.
Especially what they mean by
Enhanced Interactivity: Experience a new level of realism with interactive environments that respond to every action.
And if any will arrive for the rest of the game.
Would doubt it though for the mechanics, for obvious reasons.
I imagine it’s knocking on walls, grabbing items,…
The cell-shading is for resource management/hiding the lower graphics necessary for VR, isn’t it?
If it looks good, I will not say no to it in the vanilla game.
Edit2: Having played HwoA in VR (well, only in Sapienza - mainly for how easy and familiar it is)… This will definitely give me a reason to check out all the other locations. I can’t say it’s as easy as playing with a controller. It IS somewhat fidgety trying to do stuff.
So in light of this -this is the only thing that gives me a hint of hesitation… Thus I’d rather it be a mode in the main game.
I was certainly not expecting to see this one pop up like that.
One thing that caught my attention is how it uses the Hitman 3 name instead of Hitman World of Assassination. Seeing how the trailer only had H3 map layouts shown on the laptop screen it might be possible for it to only contain the H3 maps.
Cel shading was probably done out of necessity to make the game run better, but such artstyle switch sounds interesting nonetheless. Though the one second of gameplay in the trailer does look kinda off in terms of colours and brightness of objects.
Other than that I just wish some of the improvements were ported to main game since I’m not buying a brand new headset to play a single game.
For reference, here is as close I could get to this scene on xbox.
Lots of details missing, and a complete change in atmosphere. But also: it might have a new interaction scheme. No server to pull for interaction as in vanilla, multiple screens are down, I wonder what the vertical purple thingy is for…
Considering its been rebranded back to Hitman 3 instead of WoA, i assume the content is exclusively from Hitman 3. A bit of a letdown that the supposed “definitive VR Hitman experience” is missing 2/3s of the trilogy
Cool announcement but it’s kinda sad that they’re leaving the previous VR versions in the dust like that, by making an entirely new version. From the description of this whole thing, it sounds to me that THIS is what the OG VR versions (PS4/Steam) should have been.
It’s also great to see Dual Wielding make its return… somewhat. They have teased it a million times before while simultaneously stating they won’t ever add it cause it wouldn’t fit this version of Hitman or whatever… guess they finally went back on that, and I’m glad for it. Shame it will be a VR exclusive feature and not in regular WoA itself though.
Hoping we eventually see Dual Wielding return for regular non-VR WoA one day, that would be a cool update to cap off Year 4 or something. Now that the whole cat’s out of the bag and they have brought it back, it would be a shame if they never properly add it to the whole game. They can’t just pull the “Dual Wielding won’t fit this iteration of Hitman” card ever again lol.
Edit - rewatched it and I only just now noticed they rebranded back to Hitman 3. That’s… certainly interesting. I guess having exclusive features and what-not makes more sense if this is only the seven locations from that game and not from the entire trilogy itself…
Wouldnt bet on it, the more i read the more it seems it will very little to do with the original version. No online functionalities and im also guessing big changes in level design
Honestly, if this is a purely self-contained version of the game, just the 7 H3 locations, plus challenges, no Elusive or Contract support, then I can see this actually being available without server connections.
