I agree but the solution is to just buy the individual packs on release, or the complete pack after all parts are released. I usually am not the guy saying “IO isn’t forcing you to anything”, but here it is absolutely correct. Only buy when you are sure the content is worth it to you.
Oh I agree 100%. I’m just discussing the process of the system on how this is dodgy as fuck for the consumer and is really taking advantage on people’s respect, love and support for the margins. It’s equally viable that IO put more content than it’s worth but this whole system gives them that opportunity to be flexible which I must show distaste for. I’m not the person who type “this DLC is shit” and leave it at that. I like to explain my thought process and why XYZ is shit lol.
Games with different editions even disclose what you get in those editions extra. Imagine saying “some else later”. I’m not sure people will pay for that without unless of course they truly believe in the product, the devs and love or support the IP.
I don’t think there is malicious intent behind it as in they think of cutting it at a later stage if sales fall below expectations. What they said is “Each content pack includes a new contract and sin-themed unlockable items”, so that’s what you’ll get. How fun/detailed/challenging those escalation are gonna be will always only be known when it is released I suppose.
But I agree it is kinda strange to expect people to buy the complete pack with little information, that’s why I advocate to not blindly buy if unsure. They may also release more information on it until the 30th, though.
We don’t know if they will or not and that’s the problem - the opportunity is there to do so. A “contract” can range from an escalation that we do know to a possibility of Elusive Targets or a Bonus Mission AFAIK when looking at the individual price points.
That is the scheme of the system. It’s basically lootboxes, you get something random, pay us and we’ll tell you what’s inside. This is the testing waters to see how many people out the playerbase are happy to take the gamble for future analytics of margins. That’s is worth so much more to the company than anything.
It’s unlikely that they have planned almost a year worth of a themed DLC less than two months after that interview in which they admitted they hadn’t defined the content of a future DLC.
Then again, they’re still offering the possibility of buying each individual release.
Those who ‘trust the plan’ can buy everything. Those who’d prefer to know what they’re getting beforehand can do just that.
If the content turns out to be underwhelming, I’ll feel disappointed as a Hitman fan, not as a consumer.
As a consumer I’m well aware that the project isn’t finished, wasn’t entirely presented, that I don’t need to buy the complete series in advance, that I can opt to buy each season post release and the actual contents are known, or that I can decide not to buy it at all.
All the bases are covered for consumers.
I agree, we equally have the ability to not buy into this. I believe that the DLC is a test to see who will buy into it so they can analyse who to milk off for future systems.
I suppose the greed escalation could give points for items picked up as well as time. That would be nice for the speedrunners, I guess… not that I care about the leaderboards at all.
I don’t see an escalation with items carrying over being that exciting. It’s not like you need that many items to complete a mission. The opposite would be more interesting, where you’re encouraged to use as little as possible. Say, maybe you have a set amount of items you can use once to complete multiple missions. Something like the Mooncrash DLC for Prey.
I don’t know if this has been mentioned, but watching the March roadmap back, you can see all the Seven Deadly Sins easter eggs Clemens slips in there.
“No need for envy” at 0:25
“indulging in gluttony” at 0:32
“unleash your wrath” at 1:09
“no room to be lazy(?)” at 1:40
“it’s OK to be greedy” at 2:53
I probably missed the other two.
Video for reference:
Y’know there are a lot of interesting things that can be done with the seven deadly sins concept. Just for greed… forget the coin, create a bag of coins that can be thrown once to spill coins everywhere and distract, say, 5-6 NPCs at once. Would that be OP?
Lust… uh, pheronomes that makes a person follow you for a while? That’s probably too good, though, but it’s pretty much the fetch trick with less pro skills involved.
They don’t expect everyone to buy blind. But they’ll know that some people will want all the content no matter what it is. So they offer an option to simply get that done in one convenient payment, plus at a slight discount as an incentive/reward
Yeah, definitely always my advice. You lose absolutely nothing (except a very minor price difference) by waiting until release day and checking out what the content actually is before buying. It was the same with the deluxe edition
Those lines did stick out to me as odd when I watched the trailer but just put it down to Clemens going at the thesaurus, didn’t make the sins connection Would’ve been cool if someone had worked out the clues before the announcement
Not really, I’d say 3 individual coins in my loadout would be more useful than a coin bag tbf. Unless you could break the bag at the start of then run and pick up all 5-6 coins that spill out, then it’s actually interesting but not OP
About the coins, the point would be that you could lure multiple people in one go. Something you can’t do right now, I think?
It doesn’t even have to be individual coins. It could be a “puddle” of coins where multiple NPCs crouch and do their mopping up animation for a few seconds, “collecting” them (just remove the rag, lol).
I could see it being useful for getting two guards away from a checkpoint quickly. Or distracting a room so you can get an item, or destroy the cameras.
I mean, don’t worry, you’re probably going to get your reskinned regular coin anyway.
To do what you’re saying no coins needed.
Just make yourself invisible to the target NPCs and shoot either them or near them, in a few seconds you’re free to go. They’ll be too busy panicing/investigating to care about some bald stranger
Sloth would be somewhat like the Bangkok atrium after you filled it up with people and then sedated them all. An entire map of sleeping npc’s that wake up when disturbed or 47 gets to be lazy and wherever he blends in to read or lean people start dying by themselves.
After a bit of “research” on Seven Deadly Sins concept ,(movie “SEVEN” starring Brad Pitt was my sole reminder of what they represent ), I found this site http://www.deadlysins.com/greed
that summarizes the properties for each Sin .
Interestingly enough , it says that Greed is associated with animal “frog” and color “yellow”.
Moreover , for each Sin there is a reference for the appropriate Punishment in Hell !!!
For Greed awaits … “boiled alive in oil”.
As presented on the teaser trailer
Fun! I’d say
Pride - Dartmoor, unicorn horns, medieval breaking wheel hidden in one of the secret rooms.
Sloth - Haven Island, trap doors, instead of leading to oceans, lead to a pit filled with–oh my god no, not even gonna think about it. no.
Lust - Berlin, setting explosives to literally bring the roof down on those ecstasy-taking ravers
Gluttony - Mendoza, drowning a target in a vat of wine (which can be seasoned to taste with rats toads and snakes)
Wrath - Carpathian mountains. Your blade thirsts again as the train crosses the border to the land of the Red Bear, Russia (marking a technical return to an oft-requested classic Hitman destination in the process)
Envy - New York. Not sure how dogs and freezing water come into play (scripted kill where you lock a target out in the rain?) but it’s definitely the land of green.
