The first Sin (Greed) features an Escalation. It’s not known if all 7 Sins will feature Escalations. They use the words contract and Escalation by themselves.
The focus of Act 1: Greed is a new Escalation called The Greed Enumeration , which allows you to carry certain items over between each of the three stages. Feeling greedy? Prove it!
– Each content pack includes a new contract and sin-themed unlockable items
I doubt all of the 6 other Sins are featuring Escalations.
I hope you’re right, but I don’t share your confidence. Obviously, all of us will have to wait and see what the remaining six Sin DLCs comprise of, but if I had to make a bet at this stage then that wording would lean me more towards expecting just Escalations (probably higher-effort jobbies like The Mills Reverie) rather than some variety of Bonus Mission, which is what I would much prefer to see.
If they’re all on the high effort level of a Mills Reverie then I’ll take it, even if all of them would be Escalations. That was one of the the best post-launch content to come out of H2.
Yep, we’ll just have to see. I’d be happy if one of the Sins featured a proper Bonus Mission and the rest are Escalations.
The last level of that one was horrible: Take out every single NPC on the map. And since none of them counted as target you couldn’t kill them, had to hide all the bodies and never get spotted.
It’s unlikely to happen though. It’d be unbalanced to charge $5 for one escalation and then the exact same price for a proper bonus mission. I’m afraid we’re just going to get fancy escalations for all 7 sins expansion. I pray I’m wrong.
It might work out if the bonus mission is the last thing. The people who bought the 30$ pack “because Escalations are worth that” get a positive surprise.
And those who did not buy the pack “because Escalations are not worth that” at least buy that thing for 5$ instead of nothing.
I can only see that not working out if producing such a mission is too expensive for the overall income of the Sins thing.
It would be amazing if they had a celebrity in store for one of the sins. Just like the sins itself, we cant know for sure yet, what they will come up with…!
I like this idea. If they change the maps for these escalations to the extent we see in the trailer then it would add a lot of value to the DLC to have those significantly altered maps be used in contracts mode. Or maybe even make them the first escalations with challenges to unlock or something.
That’s the way around it but there are also a group who will pay in full Day 1 out of support or long time relationship with the IP - the group who will get used for the margins of the whole system. Those who paid for the lot coming March 30th who may end up getting nothing they like or less content than they thought. Of course that’s the risk their taking I suppose.
That is my thinking too. With the full control to remove as much content to increase the margin. They haven’t told you what you’re getting and never will know what you could have had.
Well we do have a Godzilla in Hitman.
EDIT: My biggest issue is the lack of transparency and no upfront value guarantee for my money. Because they’re opting to use the system to guarantee themselves a margin, the consumers aren’t guaranteed value content. By not disclosing the rest of the content, they can remove as much as they like to make up for the possible losses of the margin.
Hitman Gold guarantees me the content to me despite how many people pay for it. Even if I was the only one who bought it and they made a huge loss, I am still guaranteed that content as disclosed. Making “lucky dip” schemes like 7 Sins allows them to flexibly remove content prior to announcement by weighing up the overall income of the whole group to meet the margin. I am at risk of getting less content because they deem they didn’t get enough overall money from enough people.
What’s the problem with not announcing the content upfront to the people you expect money from?
Is it because the content is mediocre and if fully disclosed, people could make a better informed decision versus the price point?
Is it because IO have actually not got a plan but want your money now?
Does IO have confidence in the content?
Is it to act vague as a mystery?
Is it to have the ability to chop and remove content instead of having to deliver despite the income?
(Each content pack includes a new contract and sin-themed unlockable items)
This tells me it’s singular per pack. 7 of X. The first is an escalation.
Escalations are easier to make than The Icon for example or even Bonus Missions so my guess is that they are ready to replace certain packs with escalations to make up the margin. But thanks to the scheme we will never know truly what was on the table.
