HITMAN 3 - Modding Thread

After being on that server, I’m starting to get the impression that weapons modding is sort of a pipe dream, or at least for sure very difficult.

It depends on the mod. Adding/removing base game attachments and changing simple values like damage, spread, crosshairs and such is easy. Creating custom models and making weapons that don’t replace other weapons is harder.

Personally, I’d like for there to be a version of the Seiger AR552 that does a bit more damage, has tighter crosshairs and is semi-auto, but I’ve been told that it’s a hard rifle to mod, especially if you want to change it’s appearance.

I’ve visited the Discord modding thread a few times and talked to some of the members there about weapons modding (something that I’d be interested in seeing more of being able to be done). And it seems that, as of now at least, it’s virtually impossible to do. Certainly compared to other assets.

Why is this? I’d love to see some new weapons added to certain categories (assault/auto rifles and SMGs/PCC). But it seems that we’re at the mercy of IO as to when/if they’d release some stuff. This is an area that I’d love to see what people can do, but I’m frustrated by the lack of even those who want to do such work not being able to.

(BTW, this can be moved or merged into the modding thread if it’s felt that it would be for the best).

Only the appearance part is hard due to the model exporter/importer being bad.

I mean, there’s a few things I’d love to see (semi-auto long barreled 5.56mm rifle that’s not a bullpup, similar styled full auto and suppressed versions and even a 7.62mm/.308 version that’s like a scout sniper but without a scope, and maybe a semi-auto pistol caliber carbine, even if a conversion of an existing SMG). But it seems that, one, IO likes to add or reskin sniper rifles and silenced pistols and such instead of give us something new, and two, though they listen to the community, they can give a damn less about modders. Not Rockstar levels of anathema towards them, but they’re for sure not very supportive.

I also get that Hitman WOA is mostly about stealth and creativity with assassinating targets. But what if you’ve beaten the game and want some casual play like you could get out of like say Silent Assassin, Contracts or Blood Money?

I mean, why not use the Hitman community to test the waters with weapon and gadget mods/features they’re looking at for Project 007? If they do it right, that could be awesome.

Turns out I have COVID, not the flu. But the time off work/gym/life has allowed me to finally finish:

Time of Day Changes 1.5 - Night Miami

Thanks to @Kercyx for helping me with a couple little bits (finding some fake lights in Miami and making a template out of my Chongqing Noodle ToD)

EDIT: Would help if I posted the link

A new version of the Randomizer Mod has been released. This version:

  • Adds support for the Steam release (it is required that you launch the game through Steam)
  • Supports spawning items from the 7DS DLC and other H3 events such as the Berlin Egg Hunt, thanks to @2kpr!

One step closer to having a Halloween edition of both Miami and Whittleton Creek at night. This mod is simply amazing.

Wouldn’t Colorado be even better, given that you can disguise 47 as a scarecrow for a Halloween edition or Halloween challenge?

Getting back to yesterday/last night, I’d guess that what I’m asking for/looking at would fall into the custom models/weapons that don’t automatically replace other stuff category. That said, I’d think that the AR552 could use a bit of a bump in performance (accuracy/crosshair and damage). After all, until it was able to be unlocked by completing an ET Arcade track, it featured in only one mission (Mendoza), and you’d think it being a rare weapon it’d have something special aside from just being a rare weapon. Not to mention that it seems that Don Yates bought them for his guards, and Yates was a Providence top dog.

But I’ve been told that even modding it in terms of at least appearance would be difficult because it’s not modular like other weapon models are. And also, I don’t even mind if such a mod only works in offline mode, given that unless Ambrose Island is worth it/has unique unlocks and such, I’m not getting too much out of online mode. That’s also not helped by the fact that I’m using the Steam version, which in my experience seems to be crash prone at times online. Not often but enough to be somewhat annoying.

And again, this does come from me wanting a bit more variety in terms of rifles and SMGs. Though I’m aware that the bias towards pistols and sniper rifles is due to the WOA being biased towards stealth (pistols are concealable and sniper rifles give you range). But I’m a bit more practical in what works for me, and I do use a cheat engine for casual play.

It’d just to be nice to have something extra to play around with in what IMO is an underserved category. Also doesn’t help that I beat the game soon after getting and I’m looking for some more replay value beyond taking down some of the scum of the earth as portrayed in the WOA (or at least new-ish ways or doing it).

The models being one piece instead of multiple is part of the difficulty, but the major issue is that our tools don’t yet support vertex colors and weapons are specifically requiring those because that’s how they are animated
besides that we are limited to what already existing weapons can offer in terms of perks and settings, we can’t make RPGs for example (well kinda) but we could make a machine gun

I’m learning so much about this process. I’d love to see modder be able to pick up the mantle if IO decide to release no more weapons or gadgets beyond reskins. Ironically, I do think that since they’re working on Project 007 that using Hitman 3 DLC to test that game’s weapons and items would be great. But that also depends on if IO wants to make 007 a FPS type game, or stick with third person (most James Bond games since Goldeneye in '97 have been first person).

It also doesn’t help that IO isn’t very supportive of modders, in that they’re no Running With Scissors (developers and publishers of the Postal games), who actively support modders. Granted, in Postal 2 and the just released Postal 4 and Postal: Brain Damaged, insanity is the name of the game and they probably get a lot of amusement and fun out of seeing what the community can come up with.

Hitman is worlds apart from that thematically and in terms of realism and such (though far from the most realistic game out there), but I’d still love to see people be successful as far helping out or offering something to the community. And although the new rifles and SMGs and such are things I myself really want, I know that there’s gotta be more people out there who’d appreciate such work if/when you can get it to work.

Cool
Wanna try Miami night and Chongqing Noodle version

I’m not sure. I always imagined Whittleton Creek being a good place since it’s a small community, it would be great to see Jack O’ Lanterns on porches and Halloween decorations around the whole neighbourhood, people going from house to house trick or treating, generally being a chill mission or something. Colorado has always been this tense mission for me where I always fear that if I do something wrong then half of the map’s guards will be near me in a few moments, and I’ll have to go on a killing spree again.

It could MAYBE work as a mission where all the militia has now moved their entire camp following the events of the Trilogy, and people are actually using this as a trick-or-treat festival or something.

It would be nice, as long as the map isn’t filled to the brim with people ready to kick your ass.

Just thought of some of the stuff that has been mentioned about weapons/items modding the past couple of days. Most notably, Atampy’s and Invalid’s posts on the subject as far as what can/can’t really currently be done. So instead of focusing on what’s almost impossible/impractical to do right now, how about what it seems can be done?

For example, I’d like an improved version of the Seiger AR552, right? Well, right now, the actual model can’t really be changed to a notable degree. But from what’s been posted, certain attributes can. Such as increased damage (I’d like to see more damage done at range, similar to the Tac-4 rifles), a tighter crosshair (like the ICA 19 pistols or the Tac-4 SA), and, if possible, a semi auto version instead of just full auto (if firing modes can be altered?).

Also, I know that certain things would probably have to be replaced in inventory for the altered versions to be used (presumably offline). Would such a thing have to be a like for like, or could it replace something else (like a Mk 2 reskin of something) that’s already there?

All three of those are quite simple to do (they will only work offline though; Peacock will only be able to use them in v5 when they stop overriding the repository and IO servers will override the repository). You could replace something else in the inventory, yes.

That sounds cool if someone can do that (I’m no modder or modeler. I’m not talented enough and don’t have the tech to do that, anyways). I’d be first in line to get it when available. It working offline either isn’t a big deal for me long term, either. I already mentioned the semi-auto version, and a finer crosshair for more accurate aiming at range, but as far as damage, I’d like to see the damage increased to Tac-4 levels (two shots at close to medium range, three at longer distances), and the semi auto version being like a refined Tac-4 SA (one shot a close range, 2 at most ranges, and 3 at longer range).

Also since I have so many Tac-4 rifles, maybe the upgraded AR552s could replace them. On top of me being willing to sacrifice one of the Tac SMGs I have in favor of a semi-auto version.

I personally think that such a thing would be fun, but that’s just me maybe.

Featured contracts were added to the files either in Hitman 2016 or Hitman 2 (the latter being more likely as the game was full of useless, random, and repeated files).

They’re both featured contracts from Hitman 2016 (I think).

As far as perusing my weapons mods and such, I’m willing to wait to see what Ambrose Island offers us before I ask for upgraded AR552s for offline play.

You should use this target picture for Thaddeus Hartwell, the guy that asks “Won’t you join us, sir?”.
