Freelancer - General Discussion

This wasnt for speed/getting the challenge done asap. Just as a fun challenge whilst working towards it

In Hokkaido on the slope between the main building and the hospital entrance, oil puddles poured from the canister onto the slope do not ignite from bullet sparks, had to re-pour it on flat ground for it to work. Also 50% of the puddle is visually cut off with a glitch

Hello, there! Thank you for making such fabulous additions to this fantastic game. I have some ideas to improve the freelancer mode; I hope they are interesting and relevant. Here it is:

  • Many valuables, such as gold idols and statues, have no function other than serving as non-lethal weapons. Players could steal them, and those items would be exchanged for a small amount in Merces upon mission completion, adding more fun and immersion to the game.
  • It would be nice to have a tip mentioning that freelancer tools are lost upon mission failure; some players are confused by this feature and may interpret this as a bug.
  • It would be nice if players could spend Merces or do special assignments to reduce alert/guards in a specific location, like a recon mission.
  • Safehouse vehicles could enable new and strategic starting points that would make them less cosmetic and further develop strategic planning.
  • Please consider enabling achievements/trophies for the freelancer mode.

That is it from me, thank you for your attention.

Works well but the phone only calls suspects with the agenda which you have not ruled out. I have completed this objective multiple times.

Give us some details then. I get the phone. Use the phone. 47 places it on the ground. A person or sometimes people comeā€¦. No meeting challenge ticked off. Iā€™ve tried hiding. Iā€™ve tied staying to meet them. I have killed them, not killed them. Used the other phone. Itā€™s impossible for me or Iā€™m missing some (probably) obviously part of it.

If the phone has the right agenda icon on it, the objective will pop as soon as you put it down & the leader will be one of the people drawn to it. If itā€™s not the right kind of phone, the objective stays & everyone who moves to it is not the leader.

I had the same exact ā€œissueā€ as well, very strange.

For all the french speaking members : Akwartz released his impressions/review of the mode (heā€™s an ex-journalist whose opinions on video games I highly respect)

At the end he talks of something I thought more and more about : the lack of use for Merces.
In his case, itā€™s because the vendors looks bland to him, too random. And just plain uninteresting,
In my case itā€™s because in the end-game, when the weapons wall is completed, it doesnā€™t have any real use.

He proposes buyable bonuses / bribes as money sinks. Like starting undercover (had the same idea to be honest, maybe with a prompt in the wardrobe), pre-emptively disabling cameras in the level, reducing the number of suspectsā€¦
I would add : un-alerting a territory. At like 10.000 Merces. It would make it un-profitable, with even some loss of money, but could be interesting.

Because I expect most of us to finish quickly with millions of Merces, and nothing to do with them. Even after loosing a campaign, buying back all the tools doesnā€™t cost that much.

Well there is the obvious part I was missing :joy:

I didnā€™t realise you had to set a meeting with the leader. I thought it was just set any meeting with a suspect. I gotta read more carefully. Thanks mate!!!

I decided to be brave and try a mission set with Colorado. I figured the first mission of a new campaign is the easiest. 1 target, I started at the water tower, and the target is one of the two guys on the roof :joy:

Not sure this counts as beating Colorado. I may have to select it again on syndicate 2 and hope itā€™s not alerted.

Itā€™s been cleared up by ioi that all objectives are optional and are meant to give a chance to a player with less items. They were never meant to be all achievable right from the beginning. The more you move forward in the game, the better chance you are able to complete more on objectives. Just a way to possibly help make more money as you have no items.

I donā€™t know if there is already the option to fabricate explosives in the safehouse. It would be nice to have that, using the same system they implemented in Ambrose Island.

There is ! (and letā€™s be honest : itā€™s in Ambrose because it was created for Freelancer beforehand)

Itā€™s in the garage. Itā€™s why you can find a fuse and some gun powder lying around

Has anybody found a way to stop vendors taking time to announce their services, before the prompt shows up? It takes 5 to 10 seconds at the moment

ā€œLet The Chips Cook Where They Mayā€

More prestigious objectives would be appreciated. And please, consider my idea for making valuables Merces-worth. That would create a thief-like mechanic and put missions like New York on another level!

Damn, the Strelok ā€œ100 members or leaders headshots with the Druzhina 34ā€ challenge is unironically going to be the most tedious challenge to complete.

Only 5/100 in, and Iā€™m already tired of it. Why IOI ? Why !

Iā€™m not sure I understand IOIā€™s reasoning here.
Surely, it would be possible to find objectives, that donā€™t contradict each other, while still being accessible for new players. Also, in my example the problem is not that Iā€™m missing a specific item, which I might only get later. The problem is that there is only one target, who needs two be killed in two different ways (explosive kill and melee kill). Unfortunately, thatā€™s impossible.

Non-prestige objectives are generated when you select the syndicate & they donā€™t change. That mission would have had multiple targets if youā€™d done it earlier, before the showdown. Your ability to complete objectives increases the more you play, not just through having more/better gear but by accumulating these little tricks & nuggets of info to give yourself the advantage. Itā€™s a soft kind of progression.

Lucky for me the Druzina was one of the first Snipers Iā€™ve had (and i havenā€™t gotten any better ones since ā€“ I keep dying so I donā€™t have funds for the big boys) so Iā€™ve been exclusively using that one if ever I have a Sniper objective or feel like doing a quick Sniper Assassin run.

Weapon Tip: If anyone wants a non-suspicious Melee item for 3 Gear, take the free Grape Knife against the shed.

For whatever reason itā€™s totally non suspicious and can get past frisk zones.
