I could be misunderstanding, but I think that’s kinda the point Thrison is making. If the game is still being updated, it might get patched out for those who do use it. If it never gets reported or talked about, the odds of it getting patched out is at the vey least reduced. You won’t have to “use it while you can” if the exploit is never reported.
Exactly. And then once the game updates come to an end, that is when you can shout it from the rooftops without risk of losing it.
By the time that happens, it’ll likely become redundant. Those still playing will already know how to casually identify the Leader (honestly, not difficult anymore), and those who don’t are likely those no longer really playing anyway.
Well, today is the day. I am going to kill the final Leader in a Psy Ops campaign, and then, I’m going to have a go at Hardcore Mode. I’m only going to do it once, to unlock the challenges and the suit for having completed a campaign in that mode. Once I’ve got those, unless they make the mode a bit more friendly in the future, I doubt I’ll ever play it again. But, I’m going to take this slowly and carefully.
Good luck. I think you’ll really enjoy it.
Well, that was an utter pain in the ass. And really, it’s the goddamn prestige objectives that even make it such a problem. When it comes to picking one of those bastards, location location location. First mission of first contract of the campaign now done. Not even bothering with SA unless that’s the PO. Just killing and running and completing the PO. Such utter bullshit.
Yeah… unfortunately so, if you want the best chance at succeeding in the mode (and not wasting a whole bunch of time)
I will say that in very few cases, I had moments in Hardcore where I completed every objective in a mission – and oh BOY that is satisfying – but mainly, only focusing on the PO and sacrificing all chance at SA is the way to go…
Yeah, maybe someday, especially if objectives are ever tweaked, I may do a Hardcore mode campaign where I challenge myself to fulfill all objectives in a Silent Assassin method, but that probably won’t be for a long time, and that’s assuming I’m not absolutely sick of this mode by the time I’m done with the campaign. If I had that much trouble from just the very first mission, oh boy.
What happens if you fail a prestige objective before the mission is over? Like, if the PO is to kill the target a certain way but you kill them another way? Since PO is required and failing it is mission failure, does the mission end then and there the moment you fail it, like being killed? Or, do you have to actually exit first and then it will be considered failure because you did not complete the PO?
You’ll have to exit for the mission/campaign to fail.
You’ll still be in mission, able to putz about to your liking, until you either exit or die. At that point the mission will register as a failure.
Meaning if you fail a PO, you have time to force quit and try over.
Excellent. That PO about opening the safe with an explosion is going to come in rather handy when needing to just spam kill suspects until finding the target and then disconnecting to do it the right way.
Yes, and most importantly, this should be used as an opportunity to buy whatever guns you can before you leave
DAMMIT ALL TO HELL!!!
A single moment’s carelessness in trying to identify the goddamn target, and at the very instant that I do, some other suspect’s assassin shoots me dead. I haven’t died in Freelancer since one accident kill back in January, or maybe February at best. I lost over 1 million three hundred thousand Merces that I have been building up ever since that time. What I have gone through, the hoops I’ve jumped through, the boxes I’ve had to think outside of and the knots I’ve had to twist myself into to ensure that I succeeded at every optional objective, cracked every safe, intercepted every courier, accessed every Merces stash that was map-specific, and completed every prestige objective where applicable, to earn all that money, and in a single moment where I just didn’t see my enemy, I lost it all.
Sigh. I knew it was going to happened once I started prestige, but dammit, I was hoping I could avoid it until then. I didn’t even finish the first contract in the campaign. Whoever came up with the rules of this mode at IO, I hope they get a pubic hair in their orange juice.
Him?
That was funny. Really really funny.
Guns, but not tools. I’ve made a mistake of failing a showdown once because of the leader having escaped. Then I thought, while I’m still alive, why don’t I stock up at the suppliers before I exit the level? So I bought some tools, exited the mission, and immediately lost them along with all others because of the campaign failure
Yeah this is a little nit pick of mine as well. Trinity weapons, Guru’s Emetic Grenade, Duck Sniper……the list goes on. Weirdly, sometimes the Guru Emetic Grenade sometimes falls off Syndicate Leaders or suspects when you either kill or subdue them though?
You wouldn’t have been able to buy guns either in HC in that case, since the moment the leader escaped, Diana would announce you failed the campaign and your merces would be instantly set to 0
Has anybody experienced this? I’m clueless what caused it. I don’t think I did anything wrong and the SA tracker was green. Well, at least the Prestige objective’s completed.
One out-of-ordinary thing was the accidental banana KO on a courier, and he was immediately found and waken up by NPCs. Maybe it’s that gameplay quirk where accidental KOs on targets void SA applied to the courier but only partially?
That’s normal. For whatever reason, Silent Assassin isn’t a rating that gets awarded on the results screen, so even when you complete one of the SA challenges, you’ll get a different rating at the end.
