Freelancer - General Discussion

According to the patch note:

I’m not really noticing much of a difference, though. It’s grinding for the sake of grinding. Considering that losing all your stuff makes you a weaker xp-farming machine, it might even make the road to level 100 longer.

So I reached my 2nd advancement for Prestige today and I noticed a 450 Merces increase added onto all Prestige Objectives. The first advancement gave me 500 extra Merces which suggests that each advancement still contains a substantial increase but decreases by 50 each time you advance for all Prestige Objectives.

So if this is right then it should work out as follows:

Advancement 1 = +500
Advancement 2 = +450
Advancement 3 = +400
Advancement 4 = +350
Advancement 5 = +300
Advancement 6 = +250
Advancement 7 = +200
Advancement 9 = +150
Advancement 10 (final Prestige level V challenge unlock) = +100

So if that is indeed the intended increase for the Prestige system, then by collecting your Prestige 10 times each, you can expect a gain of 2700 Merces on all Prestige Objectives as compared to their default values. As for base merces payout and XP gains, I haven’t worked it out. This is still a working theory so I ask if @thrison can tell us whether this projected system is true as they continue to advance!

I believe they said the XP / Merces bonuses were only for Prestige Levels 1 to 5?

That’s what I originally thought as well. But unlocking Prestige Challenges involve you advancing multiple times and I only advanced twice now and it gave me an increase, even though the ‘Prestige level 2’ challenge unlock is attainable only once you advance three times. Which is why I think the increases are tied to advancement, not challenge unlocks.

A bit confusing, but we’ll get there!

47 should be able to carry two briefcases provided his hands (and perhaps shoulder) is empty.

Er, no, I mean, I agree that the increases are tied to advancement, not Challenge unlocks. It’s just that from what I understand, you need to advance to Prestige Level 10 to achieve the last associated Challenge (confusingly named “Prestige Level V”, if I recall correctly… wouldn’t mind it if they renamed those!), but the XP and Merces bonuses stop increasing half-way there. Basically, Prestige Levels 6 to 10 don’t actually “help”, XP and Merces-wise, they just allow you to unlock the last Prestige-related Challenges (… well, said Challenges do give you some XP, I guess, but, y’know…).

… But yeah: “from what I understand”. I could be mistaken.

EDIT: Ah, here’s the part I was thinking of:

“Increase the Prestige Objective Merces payout and grant an XP bonus for completing missions.
These bonuses increase from level 1-5 and do not change once you reach Prestige Level 5.”

But yeah, considering the weirdly confusing naming scheme they used for the associated challenges, I guess there would be different ways to interpret this…

So what counts as a “full wall” to advance prestige? I bought the DLC, but do I need to collect the DLC stuff as well?

Thankfully, you do not need to buy any of the DLC packs that released with Freelancer’s launch.

Well that’s good news. I can stop wasting my merces on those hideous weapons, now.

Did they ever address this issue about the Berlin guards not being able to carry large weapons legally in Freelancer? It’s just so random.

Oh, you already bought those packs? I don’t know if you need to buy them for prestige once they’re actually in your game. Sorry! :worried:

I never bought them in the first place so I never had them in my game at all. Hopefully it won’t count?

What I do know is that you lose the DLC weapons when prestiging, and that they’ll show up in the item pool anyway, so you might have to re-buy them in any case.

Super weird that they chose the Interact Button to hide the HUD, like how the camera originally worked, since they just changed the camera a few months ago to a different button (because it wouldn’t work if standing next to an Interactive object.)

Coincidentally, I’ve found that you can’t hide the HUD for the Suspect Camera while standing next to an object that uses the same button, like, for instance, a door.
Quelle surprise.

This is pretty good news, I was worried that there wouldn’t be any increase to the rewards between the 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 levels for each “Prestige trophy” challenges. That you’d have to re-complete your collection just to see the number go up, but nothing else.

Yeah, this is a significant caveat.

By owning the DLC, whilst you don’t have to own those weapons in order to advance, you are hampered from doing it as fast as someone without the DLC because, statistically you will get offers from the merchant that are those weapons, preventing you from buying regular ones that would aid in your progression.

They should have either existed in a separate slot or had the option of excluding them from rolls

I only have two pistols left but they’re not showing up in the shop - only those crappy graffiti guns are.

I am slowly getting a collection of weapons building up. Since I enter every stage with nothing. I seem to be developing a style with melee weapons. Looking for exit strategies as I have less time with close kills or loud guns. Its a good challenge overall but it can be…frustrating at times. Freelancer really shines the light on ones skill level. Where the normal game has a good bit of buffer.

Finished a SA/No Firearms challenge and a Destroy Cameras challenge recently.

It was SO satisfying. Throwing objects at cameras is my new favourite feature in Hitman.

I hadn’t even thought about that… I can melee camera’s. Thank you

Its a new recent thing in the update. Objects lock onto cameras now

Oh nice, I will count that as a win. I dunno if I am gonna be able to get that suit for completing any hardcore campaign… Maybe if I get just the right maps on the first campaign with easy exits.
