Freelancer - General Discussion

I actually think the Traceless rank is even better as a title than Silent Assassin. Even if you’re silent, you might still be able to be traced. Leaving evidence or witnesses has nothing to do with the concept of “silence.” Being traceless, however, means that even if you made a big ruckus with an explosion or gunshots or something, it still isn’t coming back to you, your employer, or your client, and could apply to a subtle approach of setting up accidents, or a stealthy yet violet approach of shooting or stabbing every target, but still having no collateral damage, witnesses or evidence. I’d be fine if future games actually bring Silent Assassin down a peg or so in how it is ranked, and put Traceless Assassin at the top as the new highest rank to obtain.

Both would be a good option. Award SA somewhat flexibly but have more specific titles that acknowledge no/minimal KOs, no public kills/bodies found, and so forth.

The ratings in Freelancer now were always there but SA covered them up, so people playing SA would never get anything specific. Freelancer sort of fixes that. It would just be a lot better if we knew exactly how this new/old system worked.

A couple of weeks ago I was pursuing some Sisphean Endeavours and I only changed my suit twice (to reqiuem for mendoza and then back again). I think the lack of suit changing is a real indicator of how grindy things can feel, less set up for faster missions now 47 has better gear.

How long has this breaker been in the garden in Hokkaido? If you press it, it lures the hospital director… surely this hasn’t been in the game the entire time?

This is another possibility I suppose.

Diana and 47 could very well build it back up again with their Freelancer funds, but I suppose the remaining ex-employees of the ICA who stood down in Hitman III would have to be eliminated first before any of that happened? I suppose it could be explained they were took out by 47 during the time they were Freelance I guess?

It has.

To me, they mean exactly the same. If you look at the criteria for SA, you are traceless.

Just want to show this part of freelancer of what I really dislike.

If you say you lose mercers for killing civilians, then i could have just used my wrench and lost none. The point is, this type of play makes for terrible gameplay. It’s very sloppy and doesn’t punish sloppy play. How is THAT refreshing?

Do ppl actually like playing like this?

I know you’re probably just looking for an argument, but I’ll bite…

Yeah, I enjoy playing like this. I game to chill. I’ll play however I feel like.

I’m referring solely to the name.

ABSOLUTELY! Being constrained to only specific styles of play is less fun. Being told that the player can only play the game in one certain way is not good design.

Freelancer is advertised as “rogue-like elements” and “strategic planning” just so we’re clear…

Yes. Because sometimes it’s fun. Also, real life is difficult enough, I play games to have fun and relax. Not be stressing out over being “perfect”.

I kinda get the impression that Freelancer is what ioi originally wanted Absolution to be before they were forced to reimplement SA by Square Enix. And while I generally like the mode (minus the bullshit trophy grinding) and the stress free play (my blood pressure has definitely been better not competing for #1!) I hope this isn"t the future for Hitman. Freelancer is cool for a side mode, but that’s it.

Why wasn’t i compromised?

Lured this target with a placed coin, literally pulled out my gun and shot the gas that I dropped from the bike with a wrench and after the target died, I ran away and hid. When I thought the search was over, I went back to the same spot to notice that this taxi driver and anyone else around weren’t orange.

An inside job…

On a recent failed campaign (where I got gunned down) - I lost an Eiffel Tower knife.

Would there be a chance to get it back?

I’d think so. Imagine losing items until you’re left with nothing and no way to get them back. I’m thinking I will be able to get it back, but figured I’d ask to make sure.

Should be. Look for retailers, they propose (randomly) lost items. Not always, but it may appear. Just play and check the retailers during your mission.

Because you ran and hid. No NPCs who would appear on the HUD map/radar witnessed you do this or saw you near the body. The taxi driver there doesn’t count, they’re special.

Either that or it’s a bug.

There’s not a lot of proper NPCs in that area. Most of them are “fake” crowd NPCs that cannot compromise you. It might be possible that target’s screams and bullet shots were outside everyone’s hearing range and the explosion put civilians in panic state, while guards have a bit of a delay between being alerted with a loud noise and investigating.
