I posted about this a couple of times the past few days in the Modding Thread, but I’ve gotten no response or feedback. Anyone know of any issues with trying to update or deploy mods with SMF? I tried to do that for WOA earlier and I kept getting errors no matter what and I hadn’t had any issues up to that point. An issue with SMF or did IO do another update or patch to the WOA games?
I don’t know how long you haven’t been playing but they had a big game update when they released the Elusive Target ‘The Splitter’, and the window to play him just closed the other day. But anyway, with that update it did break SMF (due to a different game version)… even (Modding) SDK.
Regardless, at least SMF should automatically “know” an update is/was available. For SDK you’ll need to get that from github.
And if you know and done all that already then I could only guess that it’s due to another mod (now defunct) you might have active that is messing things up.
I tried turning off any mod that according to SMF may cause issues. Problem still persists. It’ll start to load whatever the first mod it decides to update or install or whatever, then it’ll just spout errors.
Last time I played WOA was about a week ago, and I didn’t have this issue. So unless IO did some update that I don’t know about in the last week or week in a half, there shouldn’t be any issue. So I’m wondering if it’s some random SMF issue.
I’ve had no issues with deployment since the last update. Maybe you can share more specific details of what you’re trying to deploy and the errors you’re seeing.
Also idk if you’ve tried it already but verifying game files and/or deleting the SMF cache may help.
I can’t post screen shots because I don’t game on the same computer that I use for internet stuff. But it’ll start to load a mod (any mod, it doesn’t matter which), then after a few seconds will just start reporting error after error. I don’t know anything about verifying game files or how to delete SMF’s cache (I’m not very tech savvy). So any advice would be appreciated.
I do wonder if it’s also a platform problem (I play on Steam).
In Steam Library, right click Hitman. Go to Properties>Installed Files>Verify integrity.
This will restore the game to vanilla by synchronising it with the official files, Steam will check it and possibly re-download some files so it might take a little while. This will “un-deploy” any mods.
Go to where SMF is installed, which should be
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\HITMAN 3\Simple Mod Framework
Delete the folder that is called “cache”.
This will remove ‘cached’ files that SMF uses to speed up deployment of installed mods, if you have some leftovers of problematic mods in here that could cause an issue in deployment even if SMF is no longer using the mods themselves. Note this will cause you to have a longer deployment time at first as it will have to install any mods from scratch.
It’s not, I play on Steam also.
Alright, I validated the files and cleared the cache. Now the mods and such (should) work as normal. I say should because the offline stuff loads as it should when I load the game up. But now whenever I try and actually play a mission, it almost loads, then it’ll crash back to the Steam screen (or whatever’s up on my gaming PC’s screen at that moment). Which that IMO means that a mod has recently been updated but has bugs or something.
Of course, after fighting with this much of the night, I’m not in the mood to go and turn each mod on/off to see which one it could be.
I went though basically every mod tonight after re-verifying the game’s files. Everything when I started reinstalling mods worked fine until on the mission I was testing everything out on I switched from the starting suit to another suit, and that’s when the game would crash when I tried to load it. Even if I tried to re-select the original starting suit, the loading bar would get 80% full and the game would crash.
I think some update or something that happened that we weren’t informed of has broken the game.
I have lots of mods deployed with no problems at all.
Tell me what mods you’re using and I can see if I can replicate your issue or discover the source of your crash.
Problem is that it doesn’t do it with a mod. I thought it did it on the Online Unlocks mod, but every time I tried to (on Paris for example) switch from say the starting tuxedo to say 47’s signature suit, it’ll get to having the loading bar getting to 80% filled, then it’ll crash. That’s even with just using the vanilla signature suit with no mod to have it.
Another problem is that I have too many mods to list deployed. But I’m pretty sure it’s not one particular mod doing it. I think the game’s just broken or has some glitch in it that IO might have to fix. Only fix I know of is re-validating the game’s files.
The mods that I know of using are:
Hitman 2016 movement
Offline Unlocks
Oops All Items
Several Weapon Modifiers
The newest silenced pistol sounds mod
Offline Mode Enhanced
No Bullet Explosions
Immersive Sound
Mk2 Refinery
Unsuppressed Silverballer
Weapon and Gear Pack
Dot Crosshair
Berlin No Evac.
Blind NPCs
No More Flashbang
Ah I see. Hard to pinpoint it then. Nothing in your list jumps out as being a problem for this but if I had to take a guess something that hasn’t been updated in a while like Blind NPCs or Gear Pack might be an issue. Or if you’re using something like Lighting Ultimate, though you haven’t listed it, especially in conjunction with mods that might have some compatibility issues (e.g. Time of Day) that might be a problem.
You could always try and do a completely fresh install of Hitman and/or SMF, bit of a pain but might be necessary.
So do you get the same crashes without any mods deployed at all? I would also say make sure you have up to date graphics drivers and the updated Modding SDK if you use that as well (though the game wouldn’t even open if you are using the out of date one I think so it’s probably not that).
It does it without any mode deployed from what I can tell. I might have to see about doing a fresh reinstall of WOA. I hope that I don’t lose any progress (not that it matters that much, given that I do use mods that give me most weapons and items, though I’m not going to be happy about possibly having to do the ET Arcade challenge to unlock certain items again).
I may not know much about technology and such, but I’m betting that it’s some glitch within the game or something now. After all, as far as I know, WOA hasn’t had a major update since the beginning of the year (first few days of the year I had no issues), SMF says that all mods are OK, and I only encountered this issue a couple of days ago after a break in playing for several days.
You shouldn’t lose any progress if you reinstall.
I don’t think it is a problem with the game itself like you suggest, it’s possible, but like I say I’m using lots of mods and don’t have this issue and I’ve not seen anybody else with it recently either so I think it’s likely something has gone wrong on your end.
I don’t really have anything else to suggest for a fix though, sorry I can’t be of more help.
I’m trying to figure out why it worked great one day about a couple of weeks ago now, and now doesn’t want to work. I did want to try out the newer aiming dot mod, but it seems that either that or something else is gitching.
I’ll try and test out tonight if it’s an issue for sure with a mod again later tonight just to be sure before I attempt to get anything reinstalled in case I might have missed something.
I finally found the problem this morning. The mod (which I think I forgot to list) Muddy’s Firearm Fixes was causing the game to crash. Sad thing is that I believe that the person who made the mod isn’t very active in the Hitman modding community in recent times so there’s no fix for it, though it’s not a huge loss to me to not use that mod any longer unless it gets updated.
