Thoughts on Tobias Rieper

Anyone find it weird why 47 would choose to re-use his old name after 19 years?

He used the name Tobias Rieper in Hitman Codename 47. In the next game, he specifically states to Lei Ling that he is not using that alias anymore. (Don’t ever call me Rieper again. That’s not my name anymore) The way he said that it seemed like he is done with that alias for good.

Since then he uses multiple aliases, but in Hitman WoA, which takes place in 2019, he goes back to using Tobias Rieper, the same name he used 19 years ago.

It doesn’t make sense. And it would even make sense if he used it once or twice, but why would he use the same identity again and again, which it makes it easier for authorities to connect the dots?

I feel the only reason they decided to stick to this name is to play on the nostalgia of old gamers who loved Hitman Codename 47.

It doesn’t makes sense and to me it honestly feels like they don’t know their own stuff anymore.

I think it was just a nod to nostalgia for WOA trilogy, nothing else

In H2SA he meets Ling after retirement. He has donated a bunch of money to the church and is looking for the meaning of life or whatever. His priest is kidnapped and he goes back into action only to try and save the priest. At that moment he doesn’t want to be called Reiper b/c he is someone else. By the end of the game though he has resigned himself to the fact that a paid killer is what he is. He likely would not tell her “don’t call me Reiper” if he met her after the last level.
