Ah, damn you, indeed. How do you do it?
To be fair to C47 on this topic, Traditions of the Trade is probably the mission that defines Hitman best, and if I was anywhere near old enough to have played it when it first came out (instead of decades later) I would say it was the defining level that proved that the franchise and concept had a future.
That mission (along with the Lee Hong Assassination) truly was (at least in my opinion) the beginning of the âsocial stealthâ genre (probably along with Deus Ex a bit). I think that if Codename 47 didnât have that level, the franchise might not have continued or moved in the same direction as it did with Silent Assassin and similar entries.
I mean it was the first mission to feature disguises just around the level without having to kill people other than your targets just to gain access to important areas, and it openly encouraged you to take multiple paths (with multiple exits!) and be able to be completed stealthily in entirely your suit.
This game was pretty revolutionary and different with its dual wielding and concepts. Yeah itâs pretty unfocused and rough around the edges but it was also the beginnings of this sub genre of games and was released over 20 years ago.
Also everyone craps on the Columbia levels but they honestly werenât that bad at all, yeah sure they werenât the high note and the objective of saving the chiefâs brother sucked, but everything else wasnât too hard (unlike the goddamn Hayamoto levelsâŚ). I would say actually that gunrunners paradise was far worse, as your given absolutely no clue on how to complete anything in a logical way.
I definitely agree with you. Curiosly, the missions youâve mentioned are also my favorites too.
Youâre absolutely right about ToTT, that mission was essentially the whole concept of silent assassin done right, the true hitman legacy. And about Gunrunner Paradise, while I can understand your feelings about it, I can guarantee you that it really grown on you once you realize the right approaches on it. At last it was to me.
Good analysis mate!
Also, extra respect points for mentioning Deus Ex!

boomers who play hitman
Also in that itâs an outfit from a âdream/nightmare levelâ. Sandman is a neat reference to it, since Jack-O-Lantern wouldnât work without the pumpkin.
candyman maybe??

Itâs more likely that it would be a DC crossover, since heâs a DC character.
Impressive though someone was willing to camouflage a radio cell instead of just placing a regular there.
Itâs an aesthetic thing thatâs very common in America. Itâs weird, but to be honest I guess it is better than having shiny metal stick out amongst the trees
