The Remedy Games Thread

NO WHAT

What the heck Remedy/505/Epic…

Edit: ok this is kinda funny, at least people are getting annoyed a lot on social media. Hopefully enough pushback can give us a chance to get it physically.

What is it with this Dev/Publisher/Series and backwards anti-consumer decisions? (Control’s dumb next-gen exclusive “ultimate edition” bundle with no upgrade path and now this…)

I kid you not when I tell you that I was really excited to have an Alan Wake 2 disc displayed next to my Alan Wake 1 (remastered) Disc come this fall. But now that’s not going to happen and that’s put a significant, worrying damper on it.

  • Celebrity Suit for Alan

Pre-order bonuses

  • Ornate Revolver Skin for Alan
  • Survival Resources Pack for Saga

Will Alan Wake 2 have post-launch support?

Yes! We will be supporting Alan Wake 2 post-launch with both free content as well as two paid expansions. The expansions are called Night Springs and the Lake House, but that’s all we are going to tell you about them. For now.

Why is Alan Wake 2 a digital-only release?

There are many reasons for this. For one, a large number of have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only.

Secondly, not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $59.99 / €59.99 and the PC version at $49.99 / €49.99.

Finally, we did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game — we do not think this would make for a great experience either.

Is there a disc-based version of Alan Wake 2 in the works?

There are currently no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc.

Boooo… Boooooo…

“We don’t want to release a disc that requires an additional download.”
Makes it entirely download-only
???

Also, adds on downloadable-content post-launch, that will require an additional download…
??? ???

Imma translate that from Finnish: Our publishers said we can either make this the old industry standard price or we could print it on a disc but we can’t do both because they are shitscared of repeating what happened with the first Alan Wake.

Finno-Urgic languages, you gotta love 'em

Super pumped for the game all things aside.

Capcom does this all the time where the Face Model isn’t the person who does the voice.

Same goes for Remedy outside of a few occasions. Alan Wake has a voice actor and face model.

So it’s nothing new in the industry

Oh I know. Face models and actors are different plenty of times in games. I know its a common thing.

Uncharted 4 had Laura Bailey playing a black woman.

Last of Us 2 had Laura Bailey playing a woman with a UFC fighter’s body and a different model’s face. That’s a character of many parts to create one.
Heck, the face model for Dina (Cascina Caradonna) did her own playthrough of the game on YT, and kept being amazed since she never experienced doing any of those scenes that used her face.

And yeah Alan Wake has a different face and voice (and I think Illka Villi isn’t really an english-fluent actor either) so it makes sense.

But what’s not common (at least for me) is knowing who that face actor is before they’re used for a role.
They’re usually smaller actors who get filled in by larger talent, or are models from an industry I don’t interact with.

But this is Sam Lake, in 4K Ultra HD 2023, I know what he sounds like with his Finnish accent and I’m potentially gonna see him lip-synched to the dulcet english tones of Max Payne’s voice.
That. Is. Gonna. Be. Strange. (In my own opinion)

wasn’t that the case in max payne 1? sam’s face, james’ voice?

I haven’t fully played the original max paynes, but from what I remember, you’ve got a very polygon-lacking Sam Lake face. McCaffery is used as voice-over, I don’t remember many close-up scenes with the face talking…

Yes, it was. And it was legendary.

I just found out that this thread exists and I must ask, should Max Payne be a part of it aswell? I mean, it’s a R* published game but Remedy develops every single game in the series, including the upcomibng remakes for the first 2 games.

MP3 was developed by R* actually.

Regarding your main question though, I’m not really sure MP is part of the same universe. At least I think it hasn’t been officially confirmed.

Oh, ok, cool, nice to know, thanks

It has never been confirmed thought I always suspected that Alex Casey was just an in-universe equivalent from the way the series is described in Alan Wake.

They made a FAQ page about AW2 and they just confirmed that only Control and Alan Wake are in the same universe (i would say for now).

Before the announcement of AW2, some of the Remedy community thought that Quantum Break also shared the same universe, which I think could be partly true but given the bad luck that QB made maybe they decided to cut it out.

I don’t remember exactly but (spoiler from now on) in the AWE Control DLC, again if i’m right, the whole story of Control, Jessie and the Oldest House have been written by Alan, where funny enough is doing the same thing on AW2. At this point expect Jessie doing a cameo (or even playable) in one of the two expansions announced for AW2.

Going back to Max Payne: the game however would not have shared the universe of AW/Control because MP it’s a Rockstar Games series, Remedy has only written the stories of the two games if I’m not mistaken.

Alan Wake was also from Microsoft even though the story was written by Remedy, but this time they bought the IP.

So Remedy should buy Max Payne to include him in this universe, but Rockstar will never sell the franchise. We are already lucky that they gave them the “rights” to create the Remakes on the northlight engine of the first two chapters.

P.S. This Alan Wake 2 gave me the same feel like any Resident Evil Remake, but more scary. We’ll see more on Summer Game Fest just to have a confirm. I’m ready for preorder.

To second this the reason why Quantum Break isn’t in the Remedy Universe is cause Microsoft owns the IP. We’re lucky to Have Alan Wake today since Microsoft had no interest in a sequel.

True, I hadn’t even thought about it. We can sum it all up by saying that Remedy never had its own IP, more or less, until Control at least. I’m happy for them that they can now be 100% themselves on these two titles.

Well, that depends on how you view it. Technically before control Remedy did get the rights for Alan Wake.

Not sure if you´ve seen this (only relevant if you´re on PC, but still):

I’ve seen it, but that most likely requires Remedy/Epic to incur more costs or residuals to pay THQ/Embracer Group, which is specifically what they note they’re trying to avoid…

All in all, it’s disappointing, and especially disappointing to learn right after the reveal – where the hype and pre-order foaming-at-the-mouth is at a high – but I’ve mellowed the past few days and come to terms with it.
I’ll still get AW2 at or near launch, I’ve been waiting over a decade for another entry, I’m not gonna let no-disc stop me. (and heck I pre-ordered Control digitally and didn’t mind that so)

But I’m still considering waiting for a sale (which if digital-only, Epic might not allow for longer) or getting the game full-price, but waiting for a deep sale on the Disc copy later on, if they end up releasing a “Complete Edition” after all major DLC and patches are out, that I see as likely. :person_shrugging: I just don’t want to buy the game twice – games here even at the “old” price are 80$+tax!

“Stop Writing Blvd.” Heheheheh
Alan what did you do??

I like how there’s live-action segments interspersed in between the digital stuff, and it’s a little hard to differentiate, too! Northlight is damn detailed!

Oh my goooooood I cannot get enough of this trailer, omg.

That f***ing talk show host is Mr. Door! (referenced in Control, a spin on Quantum Break’s Martin Hatch [Mr. Hatch]) and the way he speaks… ooh it’s got that perfect, creepy, punchy inflection that the Taken love to do throughout Alan Wake.

“He’s here to talk about his latest BOOK!”
holy crap that’s freaky as hell but I love it :face_holding_back_tears:
