So true Sgail and New zeeland the worst maps in trilogy
she is doing the moonwalk
You leave Sgail alone mister. It’s a wonderful map. I’ll trade you Carpathian Mts. for it.
Sgail would be better if the three best kill options for both targets allowed you to wear gloves while doing it. Sgail sucks.
I will argue Hawke’s Bay, though; that map is fucking beautiful.
The iron maiden, funeral and effigy kills I assume? It’s such a good map in terms of all design aspects too. Music, architecture, sound design etc. It’s wonderful and should have been the final setting to end the trilogy. Gloves can get the heck in line!
Hawke’s Bay is beautiful yes, but you spend 40% of it on a beach, 50% in a house having to relive an Absolution scenario while trying not to gouge your own eyes out of boredom and 10% looking at the lovely waves. And then a secret 3% realizing we already have tutorial missions in Greenland. If Night Call were a person I’d scratch their eyes out. Facts.
Everything you described about Hawke’s Bay is part of the beauty. Sgail is a crumbling ruin where a bunch of rich cocksuckers gather to compare clothing and hide their faces so no one can recognize them from the sex offender registry. No comparison.
Hawke’s Bay is an interactive cutscene.
Isle of Sgail is a glorified Escalation.
(Are we competing with map insults?)
Can you insult explaining me what’s the deal with Sgail because i don’t get the hate.
It’s a very complex map that’s inconvenient and frustrating, and none of the good kills can be performed without compromising your integrity as an assassin by taking off your gloves.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.
Is it pun intended?
I reckon that its maze-like complexity can put off They could have built better the platform where Jebediah Block is, that i agree, it’s a very frustrating and illogical moment. And Sophia could have more spacing. I’m not sure if inconvenient and frustrating describe the location. It’s a pivotal mission where trying not to compromise your integrity is what matters most. It’s another gameplay in a world of varied gameplays. And the gothic atmosphere is insane. And i want a Club 5 disguise available in the menu!
Personally, my problem with Sgail mainly lies with the targets and their routines. Both targets feel exactly the same, they don’t distinguish themselves enough personality wise and their routines don’t leave a lot of opportunity for creativity.
The maps biggest problem is that nothing ever happens on its own or more importantly, without the use of a disguise. You can’t do any of the interesting kills or neat setups without doing some complicated series of events featuring a disguise
Since we’re on that topic, I wouldn’t trade either Sgail or Hawke’s Bay. Sgail I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with, since the level design makes navigation a pain (then again, maybe I just don’t play it enough lol). However, whenever I do play it, I get reminded how good it is with its themes and setting, and how many great (and cinematic!) kill opportunities it provides. Plus you can go on a literal crusade against the elite in shining knight’s armour with a sword. Good times.
As for HB, the lengthy approach across the wide empty beach is just part of its build-up and atmosphere which I enjoy. You’re going in not knowing what to expect, only to find an empty house. And then the map gets populated by NPCs and a target with the most mundane route ever (coming home after work and going to bed). The set-up is just so unique and different, and I feel IO really achieved a lot here with so little. Plus the kills here are fun and include standouts like Alma’s “suicide” or the ability to kill her during the cutscene. The level just suffers from having a “tutorialish” feel because it comes first in H2. And not gonna lie, wouldn’t mind a daytime bonus mission making better use of the map’s entire space.
Berlin on the other hand, I don’t care how immaculate the level design is, atm I’d trade that fucker any day. And you can have Chongqing too (in exchange for a Chongqing that actually works as a city map and isn’t centred around dismantling the ICA).
Shades of Goldeneyes multiplayer bunker level where you can go outside for about 20 yards… that’s it.
That would be gold and completely doable.
Just like Sgail, i don’t get the hate.
Well put, you explained concisely what’s the real deal Hitman WoA is all about, how IOI has been consistent in creating a catalogue of atmospheres in a matriochka-esque fashion and an excellent gameplay. Each location endlessly delivers ideas within ideas thanks to an ever genuine well-designing approach. I keep calling it World of Possibilities but it is exactly what it is.
I just really wish they’d unlock that damn car exit in regular story.
Mapfight!

Damn right!
Unblur this and you will have a great day!
My day hasn’t improved one bit!
