Yes, it shows that IO have no idea what the shoulder swap was mainly used for by players.
Still possible. Aim a gun and you are free to switch sides
Possible while aiming, but not while trying to throw items, or to peek around corners in areas where you are unable to properly cover.
Besides throwing and peeking around corners like musicalmushr00m mentioned, how it currently works is incredibly clunky.
In H2, it was so convenient to switch shoulder toggle in advance, and then when you aimed at a tricky angle everything was already lined up. You could even line up the shot in advance with the white dot on screen (from having a gun out).
In H3 you have to aim, and then switch shoulders, and then likely re-calibrate your aim again, as the white dot will only work on left shoulder view.
I can only assume that theyāre debating in their offices whether to bring it back or not.
It needs to come back. The intentionality of the decision to remove it in correspondence to how Hitman 3ās maps would play out is a very strange design choice; shoulder swapping should not dictate or be a factor in how they design their levels and placement of npcs and items.
Even so, since this was intentional, they still shouldāve retained it within gameplay settings for the sake of player choice instead of forcing it upon everybody. Even PC players are modding it back into their games.
If I canāt see exactly where I want to throw my coin through a door entrance half the time because Iām unable to swap throwing shoulders, then something clearly needs to be fixed.
Please and thank you!!
Iām sure youāre right, but what can there possibly be to debate though? Itās not a tradeoff, itās either the button does nothing, or it does something. That should be a no-brainer!
Are they worried that people are gonna press it by mistake then be confused as to how to fix it? Well then first, thatās almost insulting given that that feature is far from a new concept in TPS games, especially TPS shooters, but even soā¦ Fine then, make it opt-in with a setting if youāre that worried about it!
In the meantime, I will keep encountering legitimate cases where Iād have used this feature had it been available in H3. But jeez, talk about creating useless problems and needlessly making everyone spend energy by removing perfectly good featuresā¦
The irony being of course that, if this was removed for āaccessibility reasonsā (thatās the sound of me rolling my eyes there), then thatās very stupid because people now have to masterfully position the character and the camera to see what the other shoulder camera should have shown, when they canāt take aim, so in effect the game now requires more complicated input than before.
Do they invest time in programming a setting, do they stand by their original decision, or do they fully revert on it?
This is it for me. I can still function as it, its just needlessly more difficult than it should be. They said they did well with H3 launchā¦ invest some of that into some basic QoL settings for next update right?
Hey all, wanted to add some fuel to the fire. Firstly, yes I AM enjoying HM3! Lots of positivity to not be overlookedā¦ thatās why this issue is such a thorn in the sideā¦
Since the launch of HM3 there have been a few moments while grinding a run where Iāve been heavily dependent on toggling my shoulder viewā¦ whether it be aiming a coin down a narrow pathway, getting that perfect Sieker shot lined up around a corner, etc. Not being able to do this fluidly has cost me valuable time as Iāll be just too late to execute my intended strat due to the hold-up. I vividly remember discovering its power in HM1 and have made it a staple of mine in speedrunning, but I also believe itās essential at any pace of play for every stealth-based game.
Iām aware that it can still be done while aiming down sights, but itās clunky and breaks the flow of the run. Not being able to throw items, especially when locking on targets is painstaking. Itās as if weāre still performing a workaround to compensate for something that weāve been used to for years now and have built into our muscle memory. It just doesnāt feel right and needs to be corrected.
Iām only writing this since the latest patch didnāt include it as a fix, but hereās to hoping that with every one of our voices chiming in, they decide to act upon it. As I said earlier, I am enjoying this gameā¦ itās just when I realize a run canāt be achieved due to a frequently used mechanic inexplicably being removedā¦ it hurts! Ya feel?
Sorry for the bump.
I do know of the mod, but Iām not keen on messing around with the game files (that and I honestly donāt know what to do with it).
Anywayā¦ If the Devs thought this feature caused for confusion for new players then why not add it as part of the tutorial? This way theyād be covered and people that claim to get confused by it reaaaaally donāt have an excuse for not knowing about it.
They are still supporting the game for a while so there is still hope. But i wonder if they are even aware of the fact that people want this feature back pretty badly.
Yes, they are. It was pointless to remove it in the first place
A toggle feature wouldāve been a way better option
