[Serious - TW: Sexual Assault] Conor McGregor (The Disruptor) verdict and presence in the game

Recast him as Chandler to really rub it in. McGregor was way to scared to fight him so the irony would be amazing

Almost ready to mute this topic. Might as well ask this here. What does “TW” mean in the topic title?

Trigger Warning, so that people who are sensitive to that subject can avoid the thread.

Yeah if people keep complaining then IO should create a challenge requiring purchase of all DLC packs including The Disruptor.

worth noting that this is also the first time that someone who’s likeness is featured in the game has been charge in court with SA. this kind of extreme situation demands extreme resolution, IOI can’t possibly have given a timeframe of “we may remove this content in a month due to a court’s decision so get it now!” and as explained above, to announce its deletion beforehand AFTER the court ruling to give you time to buy would be seen as horribly distasteful by the studio as a chance to cash grab on a terrible situation

as a completionist myself i understand the frustration, but with all the context and circumstances surrounding this please read the room

having come to the game long after the electrocution phone was added and subsequently removed, i am indeed kicking myself for not being able to have it :slightly_frowning_face:

I still feel that they should’ve let everything available till December 8, and I didn’t expect them to blatantly say “get it now!” either. Just formally announcing the end of their business relationship with McGregor lined up with the then-ongoing ET would’ve sufficed. And you didn’t miss anything if you own Hitman 2 and its New York DLC, it was never removed and you can still unlock the phone. And if you’re talking about the Hitman 3, it was never added to it either so you can rest free without all the kicking and punching. Nobody missed the phone out in H3, like I said above it was never there in the first place. It was strictly exclusive to H2.

I feel like in the future they should just make the pack and its contents free. I own the pack on PS4/5, but not Xbox, I dont mind essentially having my purchase voided a little bit as I think that it’s a good thing to make the most amount of content possible free for new players. I would be open to even making the H2 DLC levels part of the standard edition of WoA, I’ve supported this game a long time I got to benefit from playing all the content early

I like your solution, because I think that’s the only way bringing it back could possibly work (depending on what the contract IOI has with Connor McGregor says). Maybe combine your solution with the solution from other Forum membere to donate money to women’s shelters to help reduce the PR nightmare of working with McGregor.

This isn’t the same thing (and I don’t remember the exact details of the case, as it was a long time ago), but there is a game called “Too Human” that had an issue that that it violated the copyright of Unreal Engine 3. A judge ruled that all unsold copies had to be recalled and destroyed, and they weren’t allowed to make money on the game as a result.

Because of that court ruling, the game was made free digitally on the Xbox 360 Marketplace permanently. While the 360 Marketplace was shut down this year, because the game is Backwards Compatible on the newer Xbox Consoles, the game is still free on the Xbox store to this day.

So, between your solution and the solution other Forum members have made of donating to women’s shelters, I think making it a free pack is the only way to bring The Disruptor Pack to Hitman World of Assassination back without a massive backlash.

One solution I just came up with to raise money for Women’s Shelters through a Microtransaction in Hitman WoA would be to make an additional “Fundraiser DLC Pack” as an apology for the McGregor situation that adds a variant of Agent 47’s Signature Suit, but with a pink tie. There is very few pink in 47’s wardrobe, and I think it would look nice on him. IOI can also add other pink items to the game, like maybe a briefcase or Safehouse cosmetics (like more flowers for the garden, etc.). Price? Depends on what’s in the pack and how much IOI would like to raise through sales of that DLC.

I bought the McGregor pack as well, so I would gladly buy a fundraiser pack with cosmetic items for 47/his safehouse.

Just spitballing ideas to add to the conversation after I somewhat changed the subject with “Too Human”.

I’m a bit late to this, but wanted to share my thoughts.

Spent years watching WOA grow since 2016. Bought all the dlc (except the Conor pack), Unlocked all ET suits etc etc.

After Conor’s announcement trailer, I dropped the game entirely.

Something has been off for a little while in WOA. Garish suits, nonsense fortnite esc items. The franchise has sacrificed quality in order to attract more people (imo).

Conor was the straw that broke the camel’s back. This focus on being overly sensational and lurid just didn’t hit right to me.

Maybe my reaction is over the top, but I’m waiting until a bit more can be done to rectify this. JCVD atleast seems a bit more in the right direction.

In fairness, attracting more people kind of has to be their priority at this stage in order to be able remain an independent company. We kind of have to look at it as that stage where a young adult who leaves the family home has to sell out and become a drug dealer or prostitute or something in order to support themselves until they’re at a point where they can stop and do something more dignified.

Doesn’t excuse a mistake like McGregor, but you can at least see why they’re in that desperate-for-money-and-exposure stage when they literally only have Hitman as their current source of income. If it fails at any point before they’re ready to stand on their feet with the support of the rest of their work, they could become dependent on a parent company again, or go under.

You didn’t miss much. Just an OP item that shouldn’t have been made.

Hi, I’ll just leave my opinion here since it’s the closest thing to the right place to communicate with IOI on the matter. Long time player, since Blood Money release, than played retroactively all previous games, then the newer trilogy.

First, let me say I think iOi took the right decision by pulling the content from Steam for now and ending the contract with C.M… It was the right move from a business and reputation standpoint.

I think iOi has a great business opportunity on their hands. One upping the retraction of the content, I think they should re-release the pack reworked to remove all references to that person. It feels weird to know that some players still have the content and could stream it with all the references to him. A simple patch could change the voice acting and reskin the character. Then they could relaunch the DLC, which would bring new sales (FOMO players and new ones). It’s not often that you can relaunch something without a lot of critique, but in this case I think it would even be celebrated.

Of course we do not know what can and can’t be done in regards to the legal contract, this is purely speculation. Thanks for reading, happy gaming.

Removing the Ireland Flag is a weird choice, but sure.

Removing irish colours? Why? We don’t have anything against Ireland. It’s totally unnecessary. I think they should only reskin The disruptor and change his voice, leaving other things as they are

Sanchez comes back from the dead and jumps universe

I don’t think the irish flag has to be removed, he doesn’t own goddamn Ireland. Staff is fine too, fur coat isn’t necessarily his trademark either and safehouse furniture is non-descript. Ensuring any identifiable logo/tatoo is removed or replaced, remodeling the problematic character and his voicelines should be enough. If he did any motion capture they should also change that to avoid legal problems.

Just to extrapolate on my previous comment, I think total dissociation is necessary to safeguard reputation. It was already a questionable collab initially, so severing every tie seems to be the most logical choice to me. That implies reskinning the DLC for all, including those who already bought it like me. If they want to play it safe, they could offer a window for refund when relaunching the DLC, saying that if you didn’t like the reskin you could just get a refund. I doubt there would be many refund requests, the new sales would probably be higher.

Hitman is a great franchise that has attracted a great fan base, with an unusually high number of perfectionnists amongst them compared to other games. Leaving a permanent unobtainable DLC seems counter intuitive and might irk some people considering this.

Am I mistaken that we have had no further communication on the matter from ioi ? I really didn’t expect anything before Xmas, but I would like to know what their plan is regarding this matter somewhere in Q1 2025, ecen if it is to say changes won’t be done before say Q3. And for those saying ioi should wait for the appeal and all, I wholeheartedly disagree, the damage is done no matter the outcome. It’s not a question of cancel culture, it is a question of safe business practices.
