Season Of The Disruptor (2024) - Summer Roadmap

I wish they could create use for Merces.

Pretty much every supplier has nothing to offer for sale

Poisons, gas device, remote devices

Should be available to buy at all times

What’s the point this late in freelancer if you can’t buy anything.

Would be nice. Currently my 47 is sitting on about 13 million with nothing to spend it on because I have all the items in the safehouse (except “that coin”).

Wow. This could have been a nice proper feature actually. It would make total sense that Don would still want to offer wine to his Heralds even if it’s not the Grand Paladin on account of it going AWOL.

Man that is pretty cool, but I’m on Series X/S, so I miss out unfortunately :smiling_face_with_tear:

All the content in that mod should be added to Freelancer!! PlayStation and Xbox players will hopefully be lucky someday and we’ll see them actually added into Freelancer mode, but thanks for sharing, appreciate it :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m on Xbox to but my game pass coves PC , plus I have the game outright on both

I stopped at 3.5M and decided I need to switch to Hardcore.

Now I’m chasing amassing 1M in Hardcore.

And if that doesn’t grant me the Outstanding Service coin, I’m shaving my head and flying to Copenhagen.

I’m hoping we’re going to have some news on the Outstanding Service coin in the Autumn update/roadmap :crossed_fingers:t2:

Jokes aside, it’s clear to me that they’re either cooking, or have cooked, something within Freelancer to get you this coin. Anyone who thinks its ongoing lack of materialisation is a bug is deluded. It’s possible it may have started out as an unintentional bug, but there’s zero doubt in my mind that it has been left the way it is deliberately - it would be far too trivial to fix.

In an ideal world, they’ll unveil the side-quest feature they were playing around with privately before Freelancer went public. Failing that, though, I suppose an additional set of Freelancer challenges wouldn’t be a terrible second-best.

Yeah, I’m in the mindset we’re definitely getting the coin, but it’s just a matter of when that is.

I’m definitely up for more Freelancer challenges with further unlocks :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Tbf, this is the same IOI who, in their last patch, managed to completely bork the video cutscene for the opening of The Showstopper, which had previously been working just fine for 8+ years at that point. And the same IOI who haven’t yet fixed that bug despite a member of the community giving them clear and explicit technical instructions advising how to fix it (after doing it themselves with a mod that they produced within about a day of the original bug appearing).

I’m not saying the lack of Outstanding Service Coin definitely is a bug, but it’s not like IOI don’t have the kind of form where it just as easily could be.

That’s not a true equivalence though, because, like it or not, barely anyone cares about a broken cut-scene video, it’s superfluous. There’s also the possibility that it was deliberately broken for legal reasons because they haven’t spent the resources on editing/re-shooting the video to comply with whatever the video ran afoul of.

The coin, on the other hand, something that is visceral in its absence, tormenting players everywhere, absolutely does resonate with the playerbase and therefore, in terms of prioritising fixes, it’s absolutely something you’d care about because it’s very visibly driving everyone mental - veterans and semi-casual players alike.

I care about 1000 times more about the missing Showstopper cutscene than the Freelancer coin. For me the Main campaign is still by far and away the best bit of the game, and that cutscene being missing ruins it.

Just like the “Lucas Grey being missing from the boat in Sgail” cutscene debacle, it makes the game look really shoddy and amateur to new players and the wider audience who play Hitman casually, much more so than a missing unlock in a slightly more niche mode of the game.

I don’t dispute that you (and others) might care more about the Coin, but don’t assume there’s nobody on the other side who cares more about the polish quality associated with the game’s main mode. I’m one, for starters.

I do agree with you, but that’s because I’m also a Hitman nerd. Nobody else will miss it because they won’t even know it was there to begin with.

I guess we’re kind of veering away from my original point, which was that if IOI can [recently] mess up the inclusion of a cutscene that’s been at the game since launch, then there’s a definitely non-zero chance that the Freelancer coin being missing is also a bug. I wish they’d fix both, but they have a track record of making unforced errors in areas where you’d think that it would be impossible to trip up on, from a layman’s perspective.

Returning back to an off-topic area very briefly, currently I wouldn’t recommend the WoA to a new player while that Paris cutscene is missing, because just about all newbies are going to want to play the main campaign as their first order of business, and opening the first proper mission with what is clearly [even to a newbie] a placeholder text briefing would be really starting on the back foot and giving the impression that this was a cheap-ass game, IMO. So much so that I have actually recently held back recommending the game to people on other forums who I talk video games with. Like all of us, I love Hitman and want to spread the gospel to others, but I don’t want to do that while the game is shooting itself in the foot at practically the first opportunity that it can for a new player.

On the topic of the coin - its absence is definitely intended.

For those that don’t know, the coin was originally part of a set of H2 ET coins (like the H1 ones) that weren’t used. The description for the coin, which is visible in Freelancer, hasn’t been updated and still references its original purpose. If it was intended to be appearing now, the description would’ve been updated.

That still raises more questions, the biggest one being why even make something as trivial as a coin held back? Especially when 3 other versions of the coin can already be found in Freelancer? Is it really going to be that special when they finally release it? Or will it be met with the same reaction people had to the Pinot Noir being a new unlock?

I think it’s another reflection of IO seemingly being allergic to make certain changes. The map in Hokkaido still is bugged in Hitman 3 and has been since launch, the saving bug on PS5 still has not been fixed after years, it took them over 3 years to add the ability to save challenge filters even though it was already a feature in Hitman 2016 and 2, they could rerun different sets of Elusive Targets these past few years but have not.

The original theory when Freelancer launched was because of the challenge that requires you to open the reward crate 100 times. When you have the coin and everything else, you cannot open the crate - where as now it still picks up you’re missing the coin and allows you to open it/increase the challenge count even though it will be empty.

Perhaps they’re just waiting for a certain percentage of players to complete that challenge before adding it in so that disruption to it is minimal (players would have to start purposefully leaving Freelancer Tools behind in missions so that they’re able to open the crate).

@thrison I have never heard of that theory. And cannot see it in the Coin topic we have in the forum. Where is it from?

I don’t see it being the reason: even if the crate doesn’t open anymore, it’s just one tool consumption or one campaign failure away from being back on the loop.
Something Freelancer doesn’t mind asking for other challenges.

I also think the coin in your screenshot is a mod, and uses an old placeholder because of it, and not illustrative of what would be the intended coin.
If I remember well, the whole “the coin is bugged via a typo and easily restored” is a myth.

(@thrison I realise after typing that it all seems a bit brisk, brute. Sorry.)

The only thing that we know is that IOI communications knows of the coin for a while now, having reacted to a question about it on twitter.

From it is the speculations are that either the coin was intended to arrive later on purpose, or that it was bugged and that they chose to run with it.
Or it never reached the live team.
We don’t know.

I saw that photo and I literally nearly fall off my chair thinking IOI finally added it to Freelancer :open_mouth::open_mouth:

At this point, I don’t even care about the coin. I forgot it was missing, we have coins available at the safehouse, one already on the wall that I hardly even use because of the aforementioned coins. So, by this stage in the game, who cares about the coin. :man_shrugging:
