Larry Bird said something similar when Kobe suggested his Olympic team could have beaten the Dream Team. Charles Barkley took exception and said something along the lines of “we’d have crushed them” and MJ (who liked and respected Kobe a lot) said it was not the smartest thing Kobe ever said. Bird said “yea they would beat us, we’re all old now and I haven’t played in years”
Yep heard both those quotes before and they’re spot on. As much as I appreciate Kobe and LeBron, I’d back '92 Dream Team & '95-96 Bulls over anyone.
The Super Bowl was an absolute shootout. Lots of fun to watch. We went to an outdoor watch party at the hotel we were staying at. I think I want to always be somewhere warm for the superbowl now.
Bahrain F1 race was pretty amazing. Max ran away but behind him lots of action. Sadly Ferrari is still crushing my soul with an engine failure from what would have certainly been a podium finish. That meant that at 41 years of age Fernando Alonso was able to get his super impressive Aston Martin into the trophy spots with 3rd.
Humorously Esteban Ocon got 3 penalties for a total of 35 seconds and poor Lando Norris pit 5 times when everyone else only did 2
If Ferrari can figure out just a little bit of speed and relatability maybe the Redbulls won’t just run away with the entire season. Oh! And the first American to be driving in F1 since 2015 (Logan Sargent) did fairly well on his debut.
Hey Mano, so I am trying to buy tickets to watch the F1 race in Austin, but I still don’t understand how the ticket system works. Looks like the cheapest option is to buy a ground pass?
General Admission means no assigned seats. You just find a hill to sit on and watch from there. You can walk around most places but can’t access the grand stands or lounges. General Admission is always cheapest option.
So yesterday I get to see a 10-9 Jays W over possibly the best starting lineup in the league, and then later I watch Sean Farrell, at home, with his parents in the stands, score his first NHL goal, in his 2nd game, on his first shot. The dreadful NHL season is ending soon, so it’s time for baseball szn now.
George Springer hitting 5 was amazing, but Kiermaier’s ridiculous run to 3rd was amazing. Manoah didn’t even have a very good game, but the bullpen just barely managed to bail him out. Zach Pop and Swanson were fantastic, and Cimber was fine. Bichette still can’t play defence, but he can hit so whatever.
Most insane race I have ever seen today. 3 red flags including 2 within 2 laps plus a 4th bc Hulkenbergs car died on the victory lap
Really bad day for Ferrari. Zero points scored. Oh well. 20 more this year!
Jays update: I’m far from convinced this team will do anything in the playoffs, and pitching is still very suspect, but they are so fun to watch this year, and our hitters can damn hit. Gotta upgrade the pitching lineup though (and also need to learn when to deploy them)
NHL update: 2 games left, Habs sit at 5th last and that’s probably where we finish. Still haven’t picked someone to bandwagon
Wow, Penguins eliminated. First time in 16 years they didn’t make the playoffs and the first time since 2006 that neither Sidney Crosby or Ovechkin are in. Feels like the end of an era.
I am watching. I don’t have a prediction but Vegas says Holloway wins. He’s -190. Allen is +160
Enjoy the show!
Well, Vegas are Stanley Cup champions. Boring and uncompetitive finals, but it is what it is. Till next season I guess!
On baseball, the Jays are less of a dumpster fire than they were a month ago, so there is that.
Looks like the Big 10, with a little help, just killed off the Pac-12.
USC, UCLA and now Oregon and Washington are joining the Big 10 a year from now and Arizona, Arizona State and Utah are joining the Big 12 leaving the Pac-12 with just four teams and no
media rights deal.
Welcome to the super-conference era.
I’m a day late bc of a trip but I just saw the Singapore Gran Prix and Ferrari won!!!
Super exciting race. Everything that is “wrong” with F1 for sure as Sainz won the race by driving as slowly as possible the whole time to keep the rest of the drivers bunched up behind, but it worked. The last 20 laps were just wonderful with a late safety car and both Mercedes putting on fresh tyres and then trying to catch. No idea how they didn’t, but it was magnificent. I have been missing the Italian national anthem on the podium. It’s so fun!
170°F in the car!!! Crazy
Went to the first hockey game in my life yesterday. A sport that’s completely uninteresting to me. Just went because my wife had to drive her godson who’s a player there and she didn’t want to wait for the game to finish alone. It was a under 17 game but actually pretty interesting. I don’t get all the rules but most of the time it was simple to understand. His team was behind all the time until the very last second when they equalized in power play at the last second. They even won in overtime at the end. That was nice! And I’ve got some great food and beer to watch the game as an added bonus. Don’t know if I ever want to see another game but at least I can see the appeal in this sport now.
It’s more or less football on ice, but they have less players on the “frozen pitch” and can swap players on and off the ice at will and the foul system is totally different. If you understand icing and power plays… you understand hockey. Oh and the offsides rule is 1,000 times better than football. Football should actually change to the hockey offsides.
I’m glad you had fun!
Only much more dynamic and the players aren’t a bunch of ground-hugging complaining pus*ies
Oy! I’m not trying to start a “whose sport is best” here.
if I was I’d be saying it is clearly curling .
