Instead of opening the game, it just launches epic games

When trying to open the game using steam it launches epic games.
I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, i uninstalled epic games and it told me to download epic games, ive also tried deleting files that are related to epic games and it wont launch, ive tried installing the game in a different disk that doesent have any games that are downloaded through epic.

I got so excited to play this but it just gave me stress on trying to fix this problem.
its like the devs also want us to buy the game both in epic and steam so they get more money.

Did you buy the game on Steam or Epic?

If you bought your game on Epic Store, you need to install Epic Store launcher and install the game through it.
Same with Steam.
You canā€™t use Epic client to launch the game bought on Steam, same you canā€™t use Steam to launch game bought through Epic.
Use corresponding client and youā€™ll be fine

Iā€™m actually having the same issue just today. I open Epic (bought the game on Epic), and launch the game. The launcher opens and I choose play. Then the Epic Games main window opens and the game stops launching. Iā€™ve already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and no luck. I donā€™t really feel like looking into any more today so Iā€™m going to see if I can figure it out tomorrow or this weekend.

Not having ^this problem but itā€™s kinda weird whatā€™s going onā€¦

I have the shortcut set through Steam, so I can start it with Steam open. I have this game through Epic.

The weird thing is, even though I have the game closed, it says ā€˜Runningā€™ in Steam.

Also, I had ā€˜Epicgames.exeā€™ (launcher? or whatever) in my Comodo AV sandbox. I removed it and thatā€™s when it started doing this.

For what itā€™s worth, here is the error that occurs when the game doesnā€™t load:

Iā€™m going to submit a ticket to IOI to see what they say about it (if anything).

According to the error, there is something wrong with the Windows dll.

Have no idea how to fix it, but this might be the reason.
You can try to restore system files by opening cmd in admin mode and executing sfc /scannow task.
If it shows errors, you can try fix them by running another set of commands into cmd admin mode.
The first of them will be DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth
After it has finished and told that it can be fixed, run the second command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
This command should result in a success aftermessage.
This should be it, but you can run sfc again after it to see if the files have restored and it has no objections.
Reboot PC then just in case and try to launch the game.
Not sure of, but hope it helps

I appreciate the info! I knew most of it, but a lot of others might not. I havenā€™t really had the time today to investigate much but later this afternoon or tomorrow Iā€™ll have the ability to look further into it. I also suspect that the DLL is messed up - possibly the last windows update but weā€™ll see what I can find out.

Update, if any one else is having this issue, go into your Epic library, click the three dots for Hitman and then click Manage. In the Launch Options add the ā€œ-skip_launcherā€ option and then the game should run fine.
