HITMAN 3 to become ‘World of Assassination’

A solution that I could see, but only works on Steam AFAIK, would it be for them to turn their steam store pages into hidden steam store pages: this means it won’t show up on a Steam Store search and you can only get to it by knowing the direct store link. This way it could remain available for people that really want access to those versions without producing any confusion for new players.

I think there is a system with other games where they can grant you other versions when you buy a single game, so IOI if youre listening when you delist the first two games make it so purchasing the WoA game grants you access to Hitman 2016 and H2, but specifically label those versions as “Legacy Versions” so new players dont play them

There are plenty of stores with game keys, and there are other ways to play it. Just because it’s not on sale for newcomers, does not mean game preservation is going to be an issue.

There’s still PS4 and console physical versions, as well as other ways to preserve the game. This is not a concern in my opinion.

Its funny when PC gamers talk about preservation like all their games arent thin air. I agree with them but still

I mean, depending on the storage medium, all games are just pits-and-lands on a polycarbonate disc, or magnetised areas on a platter, or just charges on a piece of silicon. It’s all physically somewhere.

I just remembered my very first featured contract will be lost :slightly_frowning_face: Perhaps I’ll recreate some of my best old ones onto H3
Also…

Are you in favour of delisting Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 (2018) from the stores?
  • Yes (Easier to buy H3)
  • No (Part of Hitman History, no new speedrunners)

I know that a lot of opinions have been shared already about whether or not removing Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 is a good idea or not, but in my own personal opinion, Hitman 3 effectively replaced the first two anyway. I uninstalled Hitman 2 the day I started playing Hitman 3 and never looked back at it. I did buy a discounted copy of Hitman (2016) a while ago just to see what the differences really were for myself but I think I played about 6 or 7 hours and uninstalled that one too. My copy of Steam just shows two greyed out games that I’ll never play again, most likely.

FYI, there’s no icon for Hitman 3 because I didn’t buy it through Steam - I just launch it from there sometimes.

Please add the Trinity pack. It is the only thing missing from my entire Hitman collection (since Hitman: Codename 47) :smiling_face_with_tear:

Like i said best idea is to delist it and then make the other games an automatic addition to your library with the preface “Hitman 2016 - Legacy Edition” and “Hitman 2 - Legacy Edition”

Isn’t it fairly common for Collector’s, Game of the Year, or other compilation versions to include older versions of the game as a bonus? Could they simply ask the player on startup which version they want to play or provide the option of launching either of the two older ones whenever they wanted without listing them as separate games in the player’s inventory?

I know for a fact they can do that on PS5

Well, there’s lots of clocks ticking in H2’s menu music. And yes this is meant to be representational of the lack of time, limited window of opportunity, pressure, etc. That being said, after a while it feels like hold music to me when compared to 2016’s grandiose spy world vibe.

H1 soundtrack supremacy for the win :muscle:

this is off topic though so I’ll curtail this convo here

And it’s not like it’ll be impossible to get ahold of the old games. There’s probably digital codes out there and definitely disc releases of those games.

I like the idea someone else floated here though that it could grant access to the previous two games, renamed to (Legacy Versions).

But they way they’ve got it now, it’s a very smart decision that eliminates all confusion about access to other DLC packs, full games, to-install-or-not-install etc.
It’s for the average consumer not tapped into the history of the games, the patches made, the tools lost, etc.
And Hitman 3 is a pretty great streamlining of what worked and what didn’t in previous entries

It’s not like the game can’t be gotten via keys, and I find it interesting where you used two reasons to keep the games up, compared to one of removing it. It’s not exactly a balanced view for a poll.

And It’s already a part of Hitman History; that’s not ever gonna change? I’m not suddenly gonna remove the 2016 wikipedia page or TV Tropes pages because it got delisted, now am I? This term of “Hitman History” is so frustratingly ambiguous.

Similarly, anyone who wanted to speedrun 2016 or 2 would’ve likely done so by now. And if they didn’t, then keys for either game are not exactly expensive.

As @schatenjager has shown, I don’t have any interest in playing 2016 or 2 because H3 supersedes it, and improves the gameplay, mechanics, and visuals in many respects. If the game was being removed from Steam/ EGS/ other entirely (as in, from your games’ library) then sure, this’d hold more water, but it’s not.

Sorry? I don’t think that’s a common thing… it’s usually just the most updated version of the game packaged onto one disc.

You’re just thinking of console versions.

You can swap between PS4 and PS5 versions if you get a bundle of them. They’re usually exactly the same, just optimized for different devices
(Though PS4 has VR whereas PS5 doesn’t support it yet)

I would kinda hope that we will have not only a way to swap menu themes and iconography but in addition a new Niels Bye Nielsen track to act as the World of Assassination menu music. A bit like when Stewart Copeland composed a new song called Tiger Train for the Spyro trilogy menu to supersede all the individual menu themes

To be fair, while H2016 is worth to check out for the changes in mechanics and rules, I am not sure I could convince someone to do that who only played H3 and is not already very eager to learn about it. I would not find a good justification to have it visible in a shop.

We might be able to alternate between all 3 soundtracks in the updated main menu?

My opinion, H3 main menu theme for the win! prefer the dark vibes in H3 to the other two.

Yeah but the codes will eventually run out and/or be ridiculously expensive. And there are no disc releases on PC if I’m not mistaken (and even for consoles, those will likely have the same fate as the codes).

Removing from sale but granting access (along with the Legacy renaming) upon purchasing WoA is the best way to go. The purchase will still get streamlined for new players and anyone who wants to play/try the old versions for whichever reason will have easy access to them without having to go through the hassle of searching (and paying) for a code/disc.

Yeah, I’m hoping for this. I miss the H1 and H2 themes…

WOA Expansion can be divided if you’ve owned part of it.
In your case, you already have H2 Gold. So you can buy H3 Deluxe and Seven Deadly Sin seperately with 10$ each.
But if you don’t own any of the three dlc packs, then you must buy the whole WoA expansion with 30$
