Lebanese sources: Biden, Macron set to announce Israel-Hezbollah truce

JERUSALEM/BEIRUT, Nov 25 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to announce a ceasefire in Lebanon between armed group Hezbollah and Israel imminently, four senior Lebanese sources said on Monday.

I mean you love to see it, and I’m hopeful, but I’m not particularly optimistic that anything will stick for long.

If Biden has a hand in pulling this off though, for a lasting while, it’ll be a good way to go out. Same goes for Macron who’s been having a hell of a time over in sister France.

But more realistically it’ll all fall to shit, and Biden’s image is already crippled anyway with hoi polloi who don’t understand numbers, so… sigh, fuck everything.

Especially if most people in Romania are smooth brains and neanderthals.

Even I with my monkey brain can’t understand how someone could align with a candidate that made his entire “campaign” on TikTok…

We’re probably not going to get a female Democratic nominee in the next few decades, which is a pretty petty thing to mope about now but let’s look at what could have been.

There were two surefire election years for Democrats since 2000: 2008 and 2020. Thanks to the incumbent Republican Presidents sucking at those points, almost anyone with a (D) to their name would have won.

The female 2020 Democratic primary candidates were Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Tulsi Gabbard, Kirsten Gillibrand and Marianne Williamson.

Warren came the furthest out of them all and she still had that maybe-maybe-not Native American ancestry thing to mull over. Then again, Biden wasn’t that inspiring either. Maybe we should just sent the Harris campaign staff back in time to 2016 to save Hillary’s campaign.

Quick poll. Let’s say these six women were the only people running in the 2020 Democratic primaries. Who would have had the best chance of beating Trump?

  • Elizabeth Warren
  • Amy Klobuchar
  • Tulsi Gabbard
  • Kamala Harris
  • Kirsten Gillibrand
  • Marianne Williamson

Honestly, I think we can blame one man for us never seeing a female Democratic President in our lifetimes.

Thanks to Bush and Cheney, 2008 was a shoe-in for any Democrat, even Hillary. If Obama and his silver tongue waited just 4 or 8 years before announcing a campaign, Hillary Clinton would win the primary and then the general election against McCain.

Considering how bad the reaction was to just having a Black man as president (Trump/MAGA was that reaction, IYWW), I shudder to think how crazy things would have gotten if a woman had been elected then. The way the public shift is going with this current resurgence (i.e. last desperate gasp) of MAGA, I think the odds of a woman being elected are still decent, if it’s played right.

Just like with Obama and electing a non-white man to office, a woman candidate cannot just be “good,” they must be miraculous. They have to be someone who shows, unambiguously and openly, that they are both tough and smart, that they have experience, and that they can help the wallets and bank accounts of the average American.

To that end, the best choice for a woman president for the next few cycles would undoubtably be Katie Porter. She and her white board of financial truths would be the perfect message to get across to skeptical, cynical, or uncommitted people. And, since she’ll be out of politics for this next cycle, she can come back in as a relatively fresh face with no direct ties to anyone currently politically active by the time of the next primaries, and won’t be seen as a holdover or remnant of the Trump era (defined as being from his announcement as a candidate in 2015, to an indeterminate period expected to have an “official” conclusion by 2029). She’d be my pick, and Colin Allred should be her running mate, as the best speaker I’ve seen in recent years on the political stage. Give these two a debate against Republican contenders and they would proverbially beat the ever-loving dog shit out of them.

The ceasefire will begin at 4:00 am local time (0200 GMT), Biden said, speaking at the White House after Netanyahu’s office announced his ministers had approved the deal.

Ten ministers voted in favour and one against, the Israeli premier’s office said.

Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron said the ceasefire will protect Israel from Hezbollah and create the conditions for a “lasting calm”.

The United States and France will ensure the deal was “fully implemented”, a joint statement said.

He may not look like the musical type, but Trump is apparently quite good at strumming the Harp.

And in case you’re wondering, yes:

In 2023, Ms. Harp sent a series of letters to Mr. Trump that unnerved people around him, according to a half-dozen people with knowledge of them.
You are all that matters to me,” she wrote in one of the letters, which were seen by The New York Times. The letters’ authenticity was confirmed by two people with direct knowledge of them.
I don’t ever want to let you down,” Ms. Harp wrote, thanking Mr. Trump for being her “Guardian and Protector in this Life.”
In another letter, she told Mr. Trump that she wanted to get back to “that synergy” she used to have with him, where “we’d talk about everything and nothing.”
"I want to bring you joy,” she wrote, “to feel like we can get through a day without ever having to talk ‘work.’

This is mostly to put the Social Democratic Party candidate in second place. He would have a higher chance of winning against Georgescu but damn… I really was hoping we’d get rid of the communist leeches that sunk this country for over 30 years.

If Georgescu wins then who knows how it will affect relations with the EU. A Ro-exit could be on his table :grimacing:

Also reports now of explosions and gunfire in Damascus. Hopefully the Assad regime is finally nearing an end.

There are rumours of a coup attempt ongoing, the Damascus noises are apparently from clashes between the republican guards and the 4th division. State TV down. Insurgents are not that far south.

Might be Maher al-Assad, he and Bashar al-Assad had a falling out recently.
Bashar al-Assad and his family are currently in Moscow.

On Insurgent side, the Syrian Arab Army seems to have collapsed lines. Insurgent are down to Hama.

Don’t know anything about what’s going on or who is involved, but whichever side is the better option for human rights and the voice of the common people, I hope they’re winning.

It’s very complicated as the Syrian civil war doesn’t have one united rebel group fighting for democracy in Syria. It’s basically a bunch of different armed rebels with different interests but simply united around ousting Assad. So Assad falling from power would be great for human rights as he has committed more numerous crimes against his own people. Though if he does end up getting ousted it’s not exactly sure his successor would be much better.
