‘When are you going to invite us to join Nato?’ And [Robertson] said: ‘Well, we don’t invite people to join Nato, they apply to join Nato.’ And he said: ‘Well, we’re not standing in line with a lot of countries that don’t matter.’”
Is it just me or does that sound exactly like something Trump would say?
Watching Civilian footage trickle out over in Ukraine feels surreal. The numerous perspectives gives it a found footage feel to it where it’s genuinely scary. I can’t fathom how the people of Ukraine must be feeling right now.
Seems like a complete war began.
Here and there messages of destructions are incoming.
I can’t even imagine what next days will bring.
Maybe I’m being too pessimistic, but I don’t believe in our forces at all.
Will be glad to be mistaken.
But on the other hand there are messages that the enemy also bears significant losses.
I myself heard a few explosions from my place, biut at this very moment the situation more or less calm for civilians.
Can´t blame you, with an attack from several directions and by an enemy superior in numbers and capacities. Plus the terrain isn´t exactly ideal for protracted defence either Hard to win without direct outside intervention… Still, the least your forces can do is make it as bloody and costly for Moscow as possible and potentially make it implode on them (wishful thinking perhaps, but still…).
Anyways, good to hear you are ok. Stay safe and keep us posted if you can.
Moscow Stock Exchange currently dropping by ~1% every 30 seconds, no sign of stopping. We may be witnessing the collapse of Russia’s economy in real time.
A lot of disinformations are running, some are natural for the circonstances, most are manufactured.
Outside of the obvious desire of creating confusion (giving the belief that every locations is touched and so the impression that what is visibly not currently touched will be very soon) and demoralization, the russian federation wants to create a “fait accomplie”.
Maybe to avoid the blunt of western sanctions, maybe to allow the installation of a more friendly government in Ukraine (the part they do not see as independent regions).
They will present it a mere, almost routine, operation. Therefore with no exceptional events and demanding no exceptional consequences, just a return to normal affairs.
With some new faces in some positions.
I also advise anyone to look into the 2008 Russian-Georgian war and the last 20 years history of the russian federation.
Especially because you will find some parallel on regions becoming “independant republics”. A few years later they then make a vote and decide to integrate in the Russian Federation (that’s why it’s always important to remember that Russia is a federation of republics)
