Freelancer - Pre-Release Discussion

I think we’ll get our answer when that May blog post drops. They speficially mentioned it’ll address what’s going on with future content releases. So we’ll probably know then if it’s happening in May, June, or delayed a bit.

I think if it had run into trouble during this radio-silence April, they’d have told us already to manage expectations for the next month or two.

Maybe 47 now only chooses to be paid by in game coins. You know since those work for everything and have no clear value :joy:

Since there’s a suit retrieve bonus, does that mean only suit start locations will be available? Or will the other start locations still be available and no bonus will be given since there’s no suit?

Now that is an interesting question I hadn’t even considered.

Adding to that: If you start in a suit, never use a disguise, and then exit do you still get that bonus because technically you can’t “retrieve” your suit by definition if you never remove it. :joy:

I’m certain it will, they worked that out in Blood Money

I’d imagine that undercover starting points would cost money to use, since they technically provide an advantage for those who don’t Suit Only constantly.

As for a suit retrieval bonus, wouldn’t it make more sense as a suit retrieval cost penalty? As in, you have to smuggle it out of the scene, or at the very least need to pay for a new one to keep using it.

In Blood Money (unless I’m not remembering it correctly) I thought you got CHARGED money if you left your suit behind i.e. you didn’t get extra money you just didn’t lose money.

That"s different than a bonus.

It’s very much just turning a negative number into a positive one on the other side of the if/then statement

In Blood Money, you had to retrieve the suit on Professional to get Silent Assassin, as well as get back every piece of equipment you brought with you.

I know. The point was, you didn’t earn money for doing that. You just didn’t lose money. In Freelancer it looks like you actually earn money for retrieving your suit. Then someone brought up if there will be undercover starting locations which (if there will be) would eliminate the possibility of getting that bonus. Which brings up the other thing I mentioned: How do you “retrieve” your suit if you start the level wearing it AND never change it. By definition, you can’t retrieve something you already have.

As an extremely staunch advocate of doing “suit only” play throughs only if forced, if the Freelancer mode even tries to tell me I have to play a map without using disguises, I’m gonna be really disappointed. I’m fine with retrieving a suit, but if I can’t change out of it, that would be upsetting.

Having said that, I would guess that if you never take off the suit, then you’ve retrieved it. The bonus would theoretically be paid out at the end if you leave the level wearing the same thing you entered it wearing. Maybe there’s an additional bonus if you never take that suit off, but the retrieval should be based on wearing the same thing as when you entered, regardless of what you did during the level.

Maybe there will be undercover starting points but you’ll have to pay for them!?

On the opposite side of that coin, if there’s any point in Freelancer where you have to take a disguise, that disguise better come with gloves.

I don’t mind starting with the default outfit, but don’t ever tell me I can’t put on a disguise. I’ve changed into a disguise for spite before.
