Freelancer - General Discussion

Oh; we are both referring to the same guard

(the guard in northeast quadrant of screenshot)

Guard wearing same shirt pattern as disguised 47 in the following screenshot:

Best regards.

PS: I learned today that an indoor staircase camera sees through the window if you follow the Caruso mansion chef to his telephone spot; it’s the briefest flicker of picture-in-picture, even if you stand still (I thought the PiP was becoming buggy). I played Professional in “Hitman” [2016] quite a few times, but did not play Master Mode in “Hitman 3” / WoA so I suppose I forgot that it can see through the window (I usually destroy camera recorders early in a run).

Alerted mode question in Normal difficulty
(Example is Berlin, but need not be location-specific):

When do stationary guards, usually guarding access to a hallway or stairs, become elevated guards (is there a terminology for such guards exhibiting the following behaviour?) where, if they see a dropped or placed firearm, they will summon via radio another guard to fetch the weapon and bring to a weapon box?

I had an alerted Berlin in Freelancer where one of the pair of stationary biker guards outside the doors to Hirschmüller’s office saw a placed firearm at the base of the concrete staircase and he radioed another guard (answering was one of the pair inside Hirschmüller’s office) to fetch the firearm.

I could reproduce this effect 100%: on Sapienza Professional story mode, one of Caruso’s bodyguards (they walk with him) sees a firearm in any difficulty, the bodyguard will radio another guard, who will come to fetch the firearm.
Same result in Freelancer non-alerted Sapienza; have not tested alerted Sapienza.
As they are formally bodyguards to Caruso, I would expect different behaviour than ordinary guards.

When I tried on Master Mode story in Berlin, the same guards would see the weapon, pick it up themselves, carry to the weapon box (in the security room next door), and place it (on the lid). Several tries later, even with Banner’s bodyguard picking up the weapon and carrying it to the same weapon box, I gave up trying to reproduce the effect @ Master Mode.

For non-alerted Berlin and Professional story mode, the guards also always have fetched the firearm themselves, not radioing another guard… 30 times? Have not tested per se; this is from experiences playing the story / contract modes during 2+ years as well as Berlin showdowns (and as a territory), including after update 3.200.

(I put the question in Freelancer as that’s when it occurred, but I suppose it can be moved to “Berlin” section if moderators consider it’s wrongly placed)

Best regards.

Sapienza in Freelancer question:
How do you kill a target in the underground cavern if maintaining “doors stay locked”?

Due to the keycard mechanic (unlike automatic doors of Hokkaido or Chongqin), even if I were to use a frisk zone-controlled door, the guards would not open the door.

I could only think of two ways, one of which is untested so might invalidate “doors stay locked”:

  1. Use the stone path from the ruins; this is what I did.
  2. Use an explosive to detonate one of the pre-determined walls (or an explosive to detonate a door); this is untested, but my theory.

Best regards.

you could panic Silvio and follow him into the cave

Regarding point 2, I’m 99% certain that using explosions counts as unlocking a door but don’t know if the destructible wall to the lab counts as a door.

Aside from Silvio, there’s also the mourning scientist in the church who enters the lab. If she is present in Freelancer Sapienza.

Did the last Campaign showdown on Haven Island for a fun sniper duel of the Leader. I take them out, and then seeing 6 Assassins and tons of guards running to your position can still get me very nervous that I’ll hide in a crate instead of risking anything running to the exit immediately! Those invisible target lockdown hostile areas are no joke after all.

I haven’t played Freelancer for a long time, good to be back!

I know what you mean. The minute one thing goes wrong, it’s game over! :joy::joy:

I will try panicking Caruso intentionally next time.

When I attempted to shoot a guard (neck shot rather than headshot) near gardener’s building (the one near golf practice range), I unintentionally caused a Caruso lockdown (he was below observatory so I thought he would not be affected), but strangely, Caruso and his bodyguards ran out of the cavern through the frisk zone near the wine cellar and towards his mother’s grave site; I couldn’t see where they stopped as I had to hide in a wooden crate to avoid searchers.

Best regards.

When XP’s lower priority (I’m currently trying to get to Mastery 60), I’ll try exploding one of the pre-determined walls while “doors stayed locked” is active.

The mourning woman lab technician hasn’t appeared the times I’ve looked, which is admittedly few (3 times): waiting for her when 47 spawns inside open casket or spawned elsewhere and gone later to the mortuary to look for her). Last year, I thought I read a post that she was removed in Freelancer, but now I can’t find it.
The first time I visited the mortuary’s preparation room in Freelancer, the dead lab technician was not present on the gurney so no “free” outfit (hitmaps confirmed it when I checked afterwards).

Best regards.

Can anyone tell me where the final clue is for the safe on the isle of Sgail that is in the room where you can get the blind-folded harpist disguise? I found one clue, in the lounge nearby, on a table by the couch you can blend in on, and another in the room between the lounge and the safe, where there’s a fuse box to turn off. But I cannot find the damn third clue anywhere. Anyone know where it can be found?

i honestly don’t think i’ve ever seen a safe in that room … or at least, i’ve never gone for it … but i had a similar problem in sapienza once … finally just had to find a fire extinguisher and blow it open

I had trouble finding it too.

Its been a while since I had it in that location, but I think I found it in or near the bathroom in the same area. Or it was outside on one of the tables.

Anyone else have this issue in Freelancer when 47 begins climbing the ladder in the basement area near where his funds/gold and the stock market laptop is kept?

Very strange indeed :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Yeah, the latest patch introduced that. It seems like it thinks either 47 or the wall is in an area they’re not, and unloads things it shouldn’t. But that’s just my best guess.

Stopped playing at 90/100 campaigns, and “activate to prestige 10”.

I know myself, if anything new is released in Freelancer after I finish the challenges, I just won’t enjoy playing with them as much. Pavlov was right.
Kinda wish communication allowed me to make a more informed decision for my enjoyment of the mode.

I also took the habit of bring the Collector Coin with me. As costly as it is if not retrieved.
All it did is make me realised how beneficially the coin will be felt in the gameplay when it’s released, or hopefully made a safehouse cosmetic pickup.

Fun fact: not completing all challenges to hopefully enjoy them when all items and suits are released is also the reason I have exactly one challenge not completed in the base game. (You Know The Number in Patient Zero)

they need challenges for prestiging 25, 50, 75, and 100 times

Fuck. No.

I’m glad it’s not just me that has this issue then. Are you aware of anyone has reported this in the bugs section?

Not even going to try unlocking so many prestige levels. I already decided not to do so back when I was about halfway through the second prestige before finally losing patience.

But, surely you, the great mighty Patrick, would love advocating for IOI to add the uber-tough-and-tedious Extended Prestige feats for the real die-hard players
