Freelancer - General Discussion

It is quite amusing to spend 45 min on the map in hardcore mode only to find that target was spawned in an unreachable spot. Interesting kind of challenge.

Like where? Can you explain please?

Hardcore campaing.
Second Showdown.
Whittleton Creek.
After 43 minutes, I killed all suspects to find the target was spawned in a non-active area of the map. So it was unreachable. I only found assasin in the garage where, on a normal map, it is joint.

Ok, most likely what happened here is a glitch that causes some targets, usually a woman with dark hair in a ponytail, to just walk on air or through walls and off the map. Iā€™ve seen this happen primarily in Whittleton Creek and Mumbai, and has required me to shoot the target in the leg while theyā€™re walking a hundred feet in the air, which causes them to stumble out of the air and fall to their deaths, where it comes out as an accident kill.

Oh crap, thatā€™s hilarious.

It really is, but when I have an objective for a specific kill, itā€™s frustrating, because this glitch will repeat every time for that playthrough once it occurs, so even if I disconnect and try again, I now have to get to that target before they get to what Iā€™ll call here the ā€œstairway to heaven,ā€ and deal with them beforehand. If thereā€™s no specific conditions, or if it is an accident, I just let it play out as I described before.

My first hardcore campaign, level 85. Final showdown. No safe and i dont do time trials. Silent assassin it is. :hugs:

I had the exact same choices at my final Syndicate target on Hardcore. There wasnā€™t a safe eitherā€¦ But tbh I didnt dare to do it Silent Assassin, so I chose the timed one even tho Iā€™ve never done them before.
Turns out you get 12 or 13 min or so, but I did it
Good luck!

Have fun spawning in the morgue and waiting half an hour not to ruin SA upon getting up I guess :x

Done SA. Hokkaido is a shit show with enforcers and lookouts. Lol

Back to normal mode. I donā€™t mind hardcore at all but Iā€™m 1 gun away from actually doing my first prestige. I said i thought i would never do it, but here we are with all guns. So might as well take the first level up. Lol

Hokkaido, especially alerted, and especially silent assassin, is the worst.

As a matter of fact I was playing it alerted/SASO this morning (not Hardcore though) and was inspired to create this poll:

Whatā€™s your least favorite map to play Silent Assassin in Freelancer?
  • Colorado
  • Hokkaido
  • Santa Fortuna
  • Isle of Sgail
  • Chongqing

Probably Mumbai just because the Rangan Tower exists, but I donā€™t really try to go for SA unless I have the gear for it and / or the level has powerful civilian disguises (Paris, Miami, Whittleton, Dartmoor).

Fuck alerted Hokkaido, SA or not though.

I pretty much always fuck up in Hokkaido, alerted or not, suit only or not. Especially when one of the surgeons is a target.

I think Chongqing and New York are the worst just because of the wall hacks the npcs have in some spots.

Mumbai. All the others have either disguises or less crowded streets or corners or something to help get NPCs, especially couriers, but also targets, to bathrooms fairly easily, but not Mumbai. Itā€™s so crowded that someone is going to see you fire a sieker dart, most of the places they go to arenā€™t bathrooms, most of the bathrooms they do go to donā€™t have places to hide bodies nearby, and those that donā€™t usually donā€™t have toilets but just holes in the floor, so you canā€™t drown them! Wtf are you supposed to do to keep these fuckers hidden?!

Colorado. No question about it. I absolutely despise this map with every bit of my body :joy:

A really nice QOL change for Freelancer would be the option to include the ability to save your previous Freelancer syndicate loadout. This is especially helpful if you rely on a common set of tools and weapons to get you through the missions. I know Iā€™ve spent so many times quickly going through the briefcases over and over again!

After a campaign end, I understood it sort of, but I didnā€™t really get why our inventory gets reset to empty after completing one syndicate in the campaign.

Upon hearing this question Bangkok instantly comes to mind.
A lot of the time it can be bearable, but there are targets like Arthit (if I got the name right) who just dwell in the outside area with little room to isolate them or set up an accident other than getting a propane flask from the opposite side of the map or sieker cheese. And then of course thereā€™s the risk of a target or supplier spawning by Recording ā€œone SA/SO entranceā€ Studio, which is one of my most disliked fortresses in the entire game next to Marrakesh consulate (similar reasons of SA/SO being very limited with its entrances that donā€™t require excessive effort to pull off) and big part of Sgailā€™s keep (trespassing areas with public levels of crowd density).
Like itā€™s maybe not that hard on average, but just tedious to play.
Marrakesh and Sgail get an honourable mention, but Sgail gets a pass since I just really like that map.
