I’ve been telling a lot of people that they’ve been playing the game wrong for years and nobody listens to me, because IOI made it so anybody can play “however they want to play.” But now IOI is trying to say there’s a way you’re supposed to do things and a way you’re not supposed to do things? Make up your mind, IOI!
Conversely:
I see… good point… I hadn’t considered that angle.
Nobody ever does, sadly.
I’m just having a great deal of difficulty pressing that Prestige reset button as I have a full weapon wall and a shit ton of merces, which took me absolutely forever to build up
My luck, I’ll hit that reset button and they’ll be an upcoming suit unlock for 47 which requires a specific amount of Merces to unlock it, which I probably would have had prior to any potential Prestige reset
Lucky for me, I think I’m at Level 74 Mastery, so I’m very close to getting the Shed Upgrade that’ll let me get the free Silverballer from the crate after I’ve engaged Prestige 1
I just can’t get behind the idea that there is any one specific way to play this game and all others are invalid. Look at the difference in opinions on Suit Only. In a normal mission, there is a reward for completing a map Suit Only but the reward is higher for actually changing disguises. Is it better, reward-wise, to play Suit Only or not?
You can say that canonically Agent 47 has never killed a non-target and insist that every player accept that is part of 47’s character, and on that point, you’re correct. The game even penalizes the player for killing non-targets, which is a clear indication that it’s not something the player is supposed to be doing.
Yet there are specific challenges and rewards for doing things that 47 is not supposed to do. Why reward the player for taking guards and other non-targets out with assault weapons if the player isn’t supposed to do so, at least for that challenge?
You could argue that there should be one “perfect” time where every player does exactly what 47 is “supposed” to do and nothing else, but to say that every single time I play the game I must do that and only that is clearly incorrect.
In Freelancer you get a trophy for failing a mission. You get another trophy for failing 10 missions. You cannot simultaneously play the game 100% perfectly and get those trophies.
It’s fine to say that there is one ideal play style that all players should use at least once, but it’s not the way that every player should play all the time. I happen to enjoy killing off non-targets from time to time, whether 47 would do so or not.
Can anyone here tell me what exactly is needed to prestige? I have all items. I’m 100 mastery as well. The prestige laptop doesn’t do anything. The only thing I can think of is the Freelancer DLC items, which I don’t have. Is that the reason?

I’ve hit the Prestige reset button on the laptop
Time to collect again! Haha
I haven’t.
I just lost an Epic Sniper
It’s my own darn fault for bringing it when I didn’t need to, but I just lost an Alerted Mission to lose over 50K, and got cocky with guards in Haven on the new campaign as I sniped my targets from afar.
Back to collecting weapons (and funds) again I guess. 30K Merces now. Gonna save up with the 10K bonus after the 1st syndicate, hopefully then I’ll have enough to re-buy it, then his Prestige.
EDIT: Got it back! Hit the switch for Prestige Level 1. Finally… I declare bankruptcy!!
I was really hesitant doing it, but then I’ve just accidentally lost a Campaign after dying on an alerted territory, which resulted with my 300 000 Merces being halved, a GoldBaller, Fiber Wire and other important tools going MIA, so I thought that gave me the ultimate push for Prestige reset.
The ultimate “Fuck Around and Find Out” Freelancer moment
At least you lost it because you got killed. I once lost the Leviathan in Bangkok simply because I stashed it in some room and didn’t think to get it back when I finished the mission :x
I lost a large weapon once because I bought it in-level from the supplier, dropped it, and forgot to pick it up. Complete waste of Merces.
That happened to me a few times as well, usually when I was carrying another large weapon or an empty briefcase. Thankfully those weapons weren’t that expensive, mostly silenced shotguns or mid-tier Siegers.
I recently forgot to take my sniper rifle back home with me and only noticed it when the supplier on my new mission had it in their selection.
Onwards to the grind, best of luck!
No. No. Grind is not fun. Grind is not a good game.
