Freelancer - Closed Technical Test

Only 2 bathrooms ? No guest rooms? 47 is an odd duck for sure. I mean even if he never will have friends over, surely he has to have a guest room in case he ever needs to bring an injured Diana back to the safe house? An injured Smith? Maybe he won’t even tell them where he lives? Surely he knows they can figure it out if they wanted to.

There is a second room upstairs that’s labeled “office”, so I suppose in a pinch that could be used as a guest room. And I think if Diana ever comes over, only one bedroom would be needed.
If you know what I mean. :smirk:

He’d probably keep them downstairs, out of sight.

Clarification, please, from those of you testing the mode:

The dossiers show a base payout for a mission, yet I’ve heard from two sources that you only get Merces from completing the optional objectives. Is this true? If not, does that mean the mission payout is the set amount of Merces shown for the mission, so you get some even if you complete no other objectives? And if it is so, does that mean the base payout is XP for the safehouse, and not Merces for purchasing gear?

Of course. 47 will sleep on the floor as he normally does, Crocodile Dundee style :smirk:

There doesn’t seem to be a base payout that you get just for completing the mission. The mission payout seems to be based on how many “optional” objectives you complete. If you do none you get no money. If you do one, you get that payment. For Example:

I killed the two targets here, but did not manage to emetic either of them, use an Epic tier melee weapon to kill either one of them, or use the water can to kill them. (I still have no idea how that’s even supposed to work) So here, i earned 5 Merces.

The XP for unlocking levels for the house seems to be calculated separately. And the Merces you earn currently are only usable in missions at vendors to buy gear you might want or need.

Thank you for clarifying.

That’s been my experience as well. I have completed missions and gotten zero payment for it.

Also, some of the conditions seems contradictory like requiring a poison kill AND a melee kill with one target so you either have to kill a non-target or you cannot manage to do both.

In the example you showed, if there aren’t three targets, those objectives cannot all be met unless you kill a non-target or two (which Freelancer is perfectly fine with, lacking any sort of Silent Assassin rating and having no non-target kill penalties).

I had noticed the contradictory nature of some of the objectives as well. It’s a little bit frustrating, because I don’t think performing the objective on a non-target even counts. In the example above, I watched the two targets to see if they ate or drank anything and neither did. So I tried emetic poisoning a random NPC, and as you can clearly see it didn’t count towards my pay out.

It would be nice if there was just a base payment for the assassinations, even if it was small and the extra objectives were just that, extra and added on more payment. Seems a bit unfair to spend a long time figuring out how to take out targets to either get nothing or an absolute pittance. I know it’s supposed to be “balanced” so you can’t buy all the guns/gear all at once, but I don’t even think that would be possible. Since the vendors have a very limited selection of items, and as it stands, the money’s not really useful for anything else.

Completely agree. I know that the purpose of the closed test is to see how the actual economy works out so I hope that at least one take-away that comes from it is that their needs to be at least some base payment outside the optional stuff.

One… (second time lucky)

Two… (on alert)

Three… (this time more discrete)

Four… (THElancer wasn’t so tough after all)

This was extraordinarily fun, about to go in for round 2. This time I’d like to actually visit Mendoza as I somehow hit every other location (except Miami for a regular mission).

Not a problem! 47 can improvise:

This game mode is really cool and all, but I’m getting super bummed out by the following absolutely game ruining bugs:

  • Whenever you log into the game you lose half your mercers, even if you logged out inside your safe house.
  • Many syndicate leaders do not match your intel descriptions at all. It appears to be a complete crapshoot whether the target will match or not and if it doesn’t then the only recourse is process of elimination.

The problem I had with the syndicate leaders was not in identifying them, per se, but on their movements. Example issue I had last night:

Final mission in Whittleton Creek. 4 suspects.
They’re scattered all over the map but I can see that one of them is inside Janus’ house. I get the disguise for one of Janus’ guards and get into the house - no suspect. They’ve moved into the overgrown backyard where the Janus outfit doesn’t work. Now I need a Cassidy bodyguard outfit. Get that and the suspect is now off somewhere else.

I know I could have just waited for the suspect to eventually get back around to Janus’ house but the mode itself (for me, not sure if anyone else has experienced this) just seems to require more urgency than I like. I’ll get used to it, I’m sure, but it’s frustrating.

Also, and this is just because of the closed test and not being on my “real” account I think, after maybe 8 or 9 hours of playing I have basically ended up right back at the beginning due to failing campaigns. I have a few pistols unlocked and some mastery, but my campaign progress is basically nothing. I need to take my time more and stop running around like a madman.

That’s what the point of the closed technical test is, it’s to fix any problems the mode might have (like the ones you mentioned) before release. You should probably mention these issues you experienced in the actual feedback thread for the technical test instead of this one.

Put me in the camp that we should get a base payment plus bonus payments for additional objectives. If you’re starting fresh, a number of these routes all but promise no money for you. Kill people with silenced guns? I’ve yet to get one!

The safehouse and the surrounding area look amazing

In my humble opinion hitman 3 will have a future when new locations are added to the world map and IO officials stop reheating the same plate multiple times.
