Lol, I just watched the Japan-Spain game on record (not knowing the result of the Germany-Costa Rica one), and seeing the “current group standings” pop in every few minutes with different standings (Costa Rica on top at one point) was hilarious.

Ok so help me out here. Once the knockouts start I read that if tied after regulation then 2 separate 15 min overtimes are played. It’s not golden goal. If still tied after that then penalty kicks (5 per side also not golden goal). Then if still tied 1 more penalty kick for each side. The one at a time continues until a team wins.
So here is my question, after 2nd half stoppage with a tied game, do both 15 min overtime period get played, or if the first one ends with one team ahead is it over?

They play both 15 min overtime periods. No matter if one team is ahead.

USA failed to take advantage of a couple early Dutch blunders. After that the Netherlands defence was top notch and they win 3-1 and advance.
Deserved win without too much crazy effort.

Kicks!!! They flip a coin twice. Once to decide which goal to use and then a second time to see who goes first. I would have assumed 1 coin flip and winner takes one choice and loser takes the other.

He no doubtedly did good, but I bet any of us would’ve acted no less good when we’ve had been shooted at like the spanish players did.
It looked like they were playing a yard friendly match rather then playing a knock-out stage at a World Cup

I watched the first half of the game before deciding on going to bed, and can’t remember the last time I suffered through a football match so much. Absolutely atrocious play from the Spanish (not that the handful of times Morocco got to the ball was any better). I was frustrated watching it already 5 minutes in… But hey, at least the Japanese can comfort themselves that they’re not the worst penalty takers of the tournament.
Just watched the Portugal-Switzerland match recording and that at least fixed my appetite. Hopefully they’ll be able to eliminate Morocco.
