Elusive Target #16: THE FUGITIVE (12 - 22 November 2021)

I’m normally a proud member of #TeamNoRestarts but, this time, I decided I was going to take advantage of the of the guy who drinks from the bar and take the easy SASO that was offered to me. However, it had been a long time since I had done this particular elusive target and my memory was a bit hazy on some of the finer details. Long story short, through my various runs to get the right target, I convinced myself that IOI had tweaked some aspects of the mission, from adding three extra drinks to the counter to randomizing the one he drank from to causing him to not drink at all if he was the actual target and the right drink was poisoned and/or you managed to poison all four drinks.

Anyway, it was here my story really starts. After spending almost longer restarting than actually playing, I finally got it so I brought in two lethal poisons, smuggled another, butchered the fugu and managed to get all four drinks poisoned in time just to see the presumed target turn and leave almost as soon as he entered the restaurant area. I decided then that was the one and also to just go with it (like I should have the whole time).

I followed him to the garden where he struck up a conversation with another possible target. Convinced he was right, I quickly ran to the far corner to line up a long distance pistol shot from some cover. I lost track of exactly which one was the one I thought it was but I aimed at one of their heads and guessed correctly. I slid down that drainpipe to try to avoid a chaotic exit.

But slid right into the guard at the bottom and got into a small firefight. After 2 or 3 accidental poison murders and killing a few angry guards and an innocent bystander or two, I managed to flee in a hail of gunfire and take the helicopter to safety.

Then, I watched some old YouTube videos and read this thread to see what IOI changed only to be enlightened that I was just misremembering and was a bit of an idiot. Not only had no alterations been made but I just mistimed the poisoning in every run. On top of that, you could actually cheese all of the potential targets for years. It actually kind of adds to the mission for me; instead of one making the gimmick redundant, you can kind of pick your own adventure for a quick and easy target.

In the end, though, order was restored. The last run was a near miss but it was the non-restart it should have been from the start. I didn’t get SASO, not by a long shot. However, that doesn’t matter to me. If IOI decides to release elusive targets permanently toward the end, then I’ll go back and clean up my more messy takedowns. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the newest additions to my wardrobe:

(Feels especially good after spending most of the past week trying to get Hokkaido to work again and becoming increasingly concerned I wouldn’t be able to even try it)

(Missed the one in Hawke’s Bay, and have actually somehow never done that one, so I also got this, which billows in the wind almost as well as The Temper Suit)

As promised, my first try of making an ET video.

As I said before, I tried to do a smooth, in-universe coherent run and even if I missed some of the cues and camera pan I prepared to make it more cinematic, I’m rather happy with the result.
I tried to never act on blind intel and according to what the game presents as 47 normal methodology of social blending, infiltration and observation.

I hope you will like it.

But because it’s the first time I did that I had to slightly mess up in the end with a door close/closet prompt. At least it’s in a funny way.

We had similar ideas. I just decided to get my intel elsewhere.

Alright so here’s that motorcyclist/Katana kill. Nothing too special, just needed a lot of waiting.

The sauna is the worst place to emetic poison someone. He uses the steam sinks to puke… when was that changed?

My second ET in H3 and the first one I’ve done without restarts and any hints outside the mission briefing video. Diana said I need to look for clues on field, so I guessed right it should be somewhere in the hospital area and spawned as a surgeon. Started searching from the room with confidential patient journals, ended up finding the laptop in the room next to the one where Portman gets unbandaged. Diana said the guy has an eye bandage, so I destroyed evidences in the morgue just in case and headed to the resort area. Found the guy, followed him a bit and when he started wandering around in the spa I came up with taking the wrench in the garage and shutting off the hot water to isolate him outside without NPCs. As soon as he walked behind a short wall between doors I subdued him, made sure noone got triggered, broke his neck, left him there and just ran fast to the snowmobile. Could be done less risky by at least closing doors, but still got SA. Wasn’t really hyped for that white yukata, but changed my mind after I saw it, looks sick. Glad I didn’t mess this up.
