Hey guys, I thought it would be neat to have a place to share/discuss documentaries that we happen across. This one is about Dave Shaw, a cave diver who lost his life attempting to retrieve a body in 2004. The diving crew were actively filming the dive in an effort to make a documentary out of the body retrieval, but unfortunately the events that followed went a different direction than anyone had hoped for.
I like the idea of the topic.
Here is a favourite of mine : Particle Fever.
About the CERN confirmation of the Higgs Boson.
With quite an emphasis on the human element. How physicists went on having decades long careers before being able to see the experiment, and how it feels like as a person.
While still going into the science, the methodology, and the process (including the back and forth between the theoretical and experimental physicists, gentle trash talk included).
Youtuber Caitlin Doughty explores the life and death of the H.L. Hunley, the first submarine to ever sink an enemy vessel.
This is not new, but it just finally got released. I saw it a decade ago at a special screening on the Miramar airbase theatre. I guess they were hoping to have a theatre release or Netflix sale… whatever, it never was available. It is now and it’s so well done. Super raw. If you’re into war docs this is a must see. It’s all about the battle of Fallujah.
