No, but looking at this, there is no way I’m going to torture myself with this.
Yep. It was done to prove a point and the result was somewhat less than impressive, but interesting. But that’s off topic.
Hitman as a shooter, a la, Absolution, is an interesting discussion. Some of the content cut from the alpha certainly points to the developers at the time trying to remove that play style but not quite managing it.
You would need to swap a takedown animation with this one in 47’s animation network file (MRTN)
The code for human shields seems to still be there, missing pretty much nothing except the “trigger”, unlike point shooting which was removed entirely in Hitman 2 (but can be unlocked in 2016)
Also Hitman is a shooter game, it’s not its core, as it is primarily “stealth puzzle” but the devs have always stated the WoA as allowing “freedom of approach” but then have decided to really emphasize on the whole Silent Assassin style of gameplay, giving us only a few ways of doing it “unsilenctly”, which is also less rewarding (kinda makes sense), I think IO have also kinda locked themselves into a loop because of their points system
New video documenting some more changes. Including some changes to the Opportunities (A Private Meeting is pretty interesting) and a good bit of cut or changed dialogue.
Someone in the comments said the dialogue between the guard and female NPC in the museum still exists, haven’t had a chance to check it, but if it does still exist, my mistake.
Here’s the removed dialogue in text form for anyone who wants to read it. Sorry about the wall of text, as far as I can see, it’s not possible to do spoiler tags to hide this stuff.
Paris Briefing:
Diana Burnwood: Good evening, 47. Your destination is the Paris fashion show by Sanguine, one of Europe’s leading cultural brands.
Your targets are Sanguine owner Viktor Novikov, a former oligarch turned fashion mogul, and his parter Dalia Margolis, a retired supermodel. An iconic power couple on the global fashion scene, and two of the most dangerous people in the world.
Novikov and Margolis are in fact the ringleaders of IAGO. An enigmatic spy ring that deals in the global elites most valuable secrets. Unscrupulous and opportunistic, IAGO has caused disasterous security leaks all over the globe.
When Crimean seperatists caused a deadly meltdown at the Odessa Nuclear Power Plant, IAGO gave them access to the plants security network.
And when the Delgado drug cartel shot down the plane of President Hernandez and his family, IAGO provided the classified flight plans.
Now Novikov and Margolis have obtained a NOC list of British undercover agents, which they plan to sell at a secret IAGO auction during the Sanguine show.
So our client MI6, need us to stop the ringleaders before the NOC list ends up in the wrong hands.
The Sanguine show will be swarming with security, and Viktor Novikov will be the focus of everyone’s attention. But despite his posturing, he is merely, the money man.
The real target is Dalia Margolis. Beautiful and brilliant, she is a master manipulator and the true brains behind IAGO.
Two targets, a highly public event… At first glance, an impossible task. Then again, I do know how you love a challenge.
I will leave you to prepare.
Removed Sheikh dialogue:
Sheikh Salman al-Ghazali: YOU! Where is my escort?
Or am I supposed to find the VIP lounge by instinct?
CICADA Mercenary #1: Uh… You probably want Dalia Margolis, mister uhm… uhhh
Sheikh Salman al-Ghazali: Your Highness SHEIKH Salman al-Ghazali! Never you mind, I shall call her myself!
Sheikh al-Ghazali speaking, I have arrived at the palace but I fail to see a proper escort. This is the date, am I not correct?
Second floor? Very well. I shall be there shortly.
VI… don’t be absurd! I am Sheikh Salman al-Ghazali, I have no need for identification.
I expect my cinnamon mint tea to be served without delay. Goodbye.
You, I wish to freshen up.
Sheikhs Bodyguard: Uh, certainly, Your Excellency.
Please, follow me.
Well this should do. Allow me a moment to secure the room Your Excellency.
Sheikh Salman al-Ghazali: Very well.
Sheikhs Bodyguard: All clear. Go ahead Your Excellency.
Sheikh Salman al-Ghazali: AH, what have I gotten myself into?! I’m no Sheikh!
Why did I let Parker talk me into this?!
"Hey Abe, you wanna earn some easy bucks? I met this guy, this Saudi Sheikh who looks exactly like you. I mean exactly!
So anyway, the Sheikh wants to slip away with a chick for a few weeks and I thought, Abe’s an actor! He can totally do this!
Just act like a complete douche all the time and you’ll be fine! What could possibly go wrong?"
Riighhtt… FUCK!
Ugh, relax Abe. Relax. Get a hold of yourself. Deep breaths, deep breaths.
You’ve done Strandberg, you can do this!
These people are not so scary, probably just… Misunderstood. Yeah.
Okay… Enter… The Sheikh
Removed guard and palace staff dialogue:
Palace Staff: Ughhh… So, what are you up to?
Security Guard: Work. Unlike you.
Palace Staff: Th- I’m working, I’m working, y’know I’m servin’ Hors d’oeuvres.
These things go like hotcakes, I tell you, y’know.
Runnin’ back and forth like a mad man.
Security Guard: Uh-huh. That mustard on your lip?
Palace Staff: Uhh, yes. Yes, it is, you’re supposed to taste a few, okay?
It’s called quality assurance, y’know, it’s part of the job.
Security Guard: Hold on… I remember you.
You served at my daughters fifteenth birthday.
Palace Staff: No, no no. Tha- tha- that uh, that uh, wasn’t me.
Y’know I’ve got one of those faces. It happens all the time.
Security Guard: Uh-huh. Riiighht.
Removed dialogue between two IAGO staff members:
IAGO Staff Member #2: Hey, you know why the library’s been closed off?
IAGO Staff Member #1: What are you planning on doing some reading? You’re gonna have to wait until your shift is over.
IAGO Staff Member #2: No no, I was just wondering why it’s guarded.
IAGO Staff Member #1: There’s so many places guarded here it’s like a bank or something.
IAGO Staff Member #2: Yeah, I heard that.
Tweaked dialogue between two security guards and a CICADA mercenary (Only the second and third line, which were removed in the final game):
Security Guard #2: So, hey. How do you get into your line of work? I mean, must be much better paid than we are.
Security Guard #1: Yeah. We’re just like, doormen.
Security Guard #2: With guns.
CICADA Mercenary: Yeahhh, you don’t want to do this line of work.
Security Guard #2: Ah we do. I mean, the outfits are much cooler, I bet you get to travel a lot.
CICADA Mercenary: But it’s a dangerous job. Everyday could be your last.
Security Guard #1: That doesn’t sound like fun.
CICADA Mercenary: It’s not. And you have family at home that worries about you all the time. It’s hard work.
Security Guard #2: But, you know how did you qualify for the job?
CICADA Mercenary: Was in the Foreign Legion. Did some tours in Afghanistan, the Gaza, Iraq.
Security Guard #1: So you’re a hero!
CICADA Mercenary: In war, there’s no such thing as heroes. Only casualties. So let me give you the best advice I possibly can. Do what you do, and you will stay alive. And your mother, will be happy.
Security Guard #2: Yeah, yeah you’re probably right. I think I’m too old to enlist in the Foreign Legion. So…
CICADA Mercenary: You’re smarter than I thought, good for you. Stay safe.
Removed dialogue between a security guard and a female NPC in the Museum (This might still be in the game, I have to double check):
Female NPC: Fashion is just an illusion for the masses. It’s based on the false promise that style is something you can buy.
It’s bullshit basically.
Security Guard: No offence, but it sounds like you might not be in the right line of work Miss.
Female NPC: Everyone wants to work in fashion. It’s, it’s just something you do.
Even if I’m only an assistant there’s a million kids out there who would eat their own Grandmothers for a shot at my position.
And do it for free.
Security Guard: Yet you’re way out here, talking to me. A guy who wears white tees and cargo pants when he’s off duty.
Female NPC: Ugh, yeah well… My Dad and my Brother they’re, they’re both cops…
So, I guess I’ve always felt comfortable around guys in uniform.
Ah shit! That’s my phone. Miriam probably wants a Cosmo, or someone to yell at. Usually both.
Security Guard: Yeah my boss is like that. Funny how all jobs are basically the same, y’know.
Hey I got this friend who’s a stunt man, greatest job in the world right? Or so you’d think.
Only he says, “Once you’ve fallen down a flight of stairs, you’ve fallen down em’ all.”
That really got me thinking.
Female NPC: Yeah… So, I better get back in. It was really nice talking to you.
I’ll… Well, I mean you know my name so…
Security Guard: Uh, yeah yeah I got it.
Removed Diana dialogue when changing disguises or just pointing out general areas on the map:
Diana Burnwood: Sanguine has hired a local security agency. They are allowed ground and first floor access.
Sheikh al-Ghazali is a most private person. Apart from his closest friends and family, few people know what he looks like. Hopefully, neither does Dalia Margolis.
The Chef is allowed access to the basement and ground floor.
As a technician, you have access to the basement, ground and first floor. But the second floor remains off limits.
Stylists are allowed backstage, but their access is limited to the basement and ground floor.
The kitchen staff has access to the basement and ground floor. As a waiter, you can tamper with beverages without arousing suspicion.
As an IAGO staff member, you have full access to the second floor lounge and the entire palace. As a waiter, you can tamper with beverages without arousing suspicion.
That barge is stacked with fireworks. Interesting.
A useful escape vehicle, if you can find the key that is. I’d look in the palace owners private quarters.
Only security, technicians and IAGO staff are allowed on the first floor.
A pyro-technicians remote. It triggers the fireworks display.
IAGOs auction is strictly invite only. You need to show a VIP card to gain access, find one, or look for a different route inside.
That is infamous Sheikh Salman al-Ghazali. You can smell the haughtiness from miles away.
The cameras connect to a security station in the basement, where all recordings are stored.
You should be able to bypass guards and security checks by climbing the drainpipes.
Some different dialogue in the “A Private Meeting Story”, you probably need to watch the video for context on this one:
Yeah, fine. Inform your guards that we’re coming through. I’ll call you when we get there.
Come on, let’s stretch our legs. Carson, don’t forget the case in the trunk.
Carson: Uh, go on sir I’ll be right behind you.
What the hell?!
Shit! Keys, keys, keys! Oh god dammit, they were right here! I just had them in my hand, come on!
What the? It’s open? How the?
Well, I guess somebody up there likes me.
Max Decker: Finally, we can get on with things. I hope you’ve learned something today Carson.
Mr. Novikov, I’m at the pavilion. Fine. Please hurry, before my parking expires.
Viktor Novikov: Mr. Decker. How are things at the office?
Max Decker: It’s '91 all over again. Kamarov is found dead, gun in hand. Office locked from the inside. In his safe, evidence that he was leaking state secrets to Langley. An FSB section chief. Kremlin’s golden boy, a CIA spy.
Look, I don’t know who you hired to pull this off, but I want his number.
Viktor Novikov: Trust me, you don’t. The case file please.
Max Decker: Right, right. Of course. Last and only copy. There was an unfortunate server room fire at HQ. Misery loves company.
Viktor Novikov: What’s this?
Max Decker: I got you a little souvenir, from Kamarov’s office. Ming dynasty I believe.
Viktor Novikov: Mr. Decker. you know, I do believe this is the start of a beautiful friendship.
The money’s being wired to your account.
Max Decker: Do I need to call my guy in Switzerland?
Viktor Novikov: Why, haven’t you heard? I’m an honest businessman.
Do svidaniya Mr. Decker.
That was all pretty interesting stuff. Love to see what the game would/could have been versus what it is. I think IOI made good decisions overall, but that cut stuff is interesting for sure.
someone shared it either here or on Reddit and it took a bit of digging, but I found it again for the sake of the argument:
the camera turn is fast and awkward but yeah…it’s quite brutal
I wonder if all that tutorial-like dialogue from Diana that was cut means that originally the game was just going to open up with Paris, but then the ICA Facility was added later making all that dialogue a bit redundant.
The ICA Facility was done a bit later, but it still was planned from the start, so I doubt, I think it was just cut because of redundancy although it’s not too bad
Adding a video from Dafitius in which he shows the basic geometry of the Facility on Blender:
(Dunno if that link will work on HMF, but I don’t want to upload it on YouTube)
I remember seeing that dialogue, what’s interesting is that I also knew the Sheik as another name which is in a relatively old .brick (gameplay_palace_fashionshow.brick) it seems, in this one there are mentions of “Sheik Mohammed El Bashir” (this brick also still has mentions of E3 stuffs and lots of crate related code as well, I invite you to look at it)
I honestly really like that Paris has so many people who hide their real identity, or like the ShowStopper people trying to expose Novikov being scattered around the map
I remember also finding out about that when walking around the map, I was impressed that the mission story was quite different, I honestly almost like it more than the current state
Sending a zip of the localization files both menu and in-game dialogues so you can check them
I’m pretty sure there is another removed dialogue between a guard and a staff member at the entry of the logistocs aera. It occurs at the beginning of the mission, before the staff member goes close to the cars smoking.
The staff member is discussing about the fact that he is always checked even though the guard is knowing him or he’s passing the same door several times (or something like that).
PS: Thanks for crediting me in the description of your video
I thought so too, but I checked and it seems to be there in the final game. I’ll double check later just to be sure.
And no problem, great work documenting a lot of these things!
I think we should look into getting some of this stuff on the HITMAN Wikia.
I found a nice command that shows server related info and tried it on both builds:
(Paris only build):
(Build with all maps):
We can see from the “Game Version” how much iterations there has been between the two, as well as the address of the second being under “beta” instead of “alpha”
I’ve also seen that if you use the command “debugchannel_drawallguidechannels 1” it displays the navmesh and on maps like Colorado, it can show that the devs removed some parts of the maps after generating it, so as an example you can see a missing building with probably silos next to it
Thank you! Added a note in the video about this mistake.
Interesting, I think it’d also be a good idea if we started to document console commands and what they do. Might look into it.
Another request for help, anyone know if this dialogue is in the final game? I checked myself but couldn’t find or trigger it, so just want to be sure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbyLCwzU3ro
EDIT: Also I guess I’ll just note this here too. The High setting for texture quality in the build with all maps is broken (or the assets are just missing so it defaults to low), it’ll actually look better at Medium than it will at High.
Nice find. Never noticed this dialogue before that.
The dialogue is definitely present in the final 2016 release, but not like in the alpha. The gardener doesn’t stand by Caruso when he’s practicing golf. Caruso rather moves on by the gardener before asking him to fetch the golf balls.
Source: NPC Loop: Silvio Caruso - Route & Dialog - Hitman 2016 - YouTube (timecode: 16’18)
Now I just need to check if the gardener complains like he does in the alpha, I’ll give it another try later.
As usual @BlobSponge, extremely helpful. Thank you!
Oooooh that’s what it was! I accidentally stumbled on him in the ruins and recorded some of it some time ago.
I was curious, so I checked for myself if it was still all there in Hitman 3.
I got it to trigger on Caruso’s rotation after the one where he talks to Roberto about Francesca.
I can confirm he still complains.
Yes, I have very few of them that I noted, I also try to go back in the Alpha to look for more interesting ones from time to time
I also did notice this, unsure if it is the same for other settings, but it seems it’s better to keep them at default unless you experience lags
By the way very recently I’ve been shown a video from Adobe about Hitman and how they use “Subtance Painter”, during the video the artist shows a scene in which they have 12,000+ assets, and I did notice ones I’ve never seen outside of the Alpha! (both in Bangkok specifically)
(this one is still in but the text isn’t)
For me it resemble to Death Factory(if I remember the name right) in Absolution. I just have that feeling
