Ambrose Island - Pre-release Discussion

It would explain why Grey is never seen using any of his weapons. 47 simply added them this armory. Cheecky bastard.

If they added a revolver, they would probably have to give it the perk that it can only use specific ammo for it, and not which is used from pistols. Which would suck, but if they gave us enough ammo at the beginning (like 6/36) it would be fun to use.

Anyone else hopefull this map will have armed target(s)? If we’re really talking pirates you should expect some resistance right? Especially from a leader. Would be cool to see a target wielding a sword or axe, like Jin Noo.

What I’d like to do in such a scenario is that, if there’s more than one target (likely), and one of them is armed, I’d like to get in a fight with the armed target, knock his ass out, take his gun, wait for the second target to find and revive him, then step forward and mow them both down with the target’s gun. An unlikely scenario, but I can dream.

Fortunately, there’s a somewhat higher chance a scenario like this could come up in Freelancer.

I’ve never understood this. Hitman is not a combat game. While there is combat in at least some capacity, the game is a stealth game. What is the attraction of the target being armed or, for that matter, fighting at all? If the game is played “right”, the target would never know he/she was being targeted at all until they were dead.

I think it’s more for the sake of realism. All these targets, a lot of them violent, dangerous people, some of them knowing their lives are in danger from their enemies, and they don’t have weapons on them, even for self defense? Yeah, with some, them having bodyguards takes care of that, but are we seriously to believe that General Zaydan, Sean Rose, Maya Parvati, Alma Reynard, Rico Delgado, the Malestrom, Nolan Cassidy, and the Partners, plus all the Elusive Targets that were expressly killers, didn’t even have handguns or knives on them even once?! The only exceptions to this are the agents in Berlin and the Collector’s hobby knife, and that’s it. The targets carrying weapons makes for more realism and a slightly greater challenge in that, if you fuck up, they might just turn around and blast your ass.

The right way to play the game is however one wants. If I wanna lure out a target or have a one on one shootout with him/her, I would like to be able to do so. Hitman might be a stealth game but that doesn’t mean it can’t throw in another challenge of a target attacking you on sight.

If I’m being honest, at the end of H2, when we’re led to believe that Grey and the Constant are in on the whole thing together, I actually expected at that time that the eventual third game would end with having a shootout with Grey as he defends the Constant, or ended up with a three-way gun battle a la GTA: Vice City Stories. Was kinda looking forward to a straight-up “just shoot him!” moment for the finale.

Yeah I definitely had the same feeling, it was actually quite a clever set up for H3, shame it didn’t actually go anywhere though, Grey would have made an awesome villain after 2 games of build up.

Before H3 I predicted the first half of the game would be taking out the partners, then it’s revealed Grey and the Constant used 47 to usurp Providence so they could take their place, and somehow convincing the ICA to turn on him (Apex Predator), then 47 takes it upon himself to take them out before retiring or going freelance.

The way they handled Grey was decent, but I was quite looking forward to see where his betrayal arc was going

I imagine a lot of this is simply bc it existed in previous games. Lee Hong was absolutely dangerous with his poison sword and Ochoa would lay into you with endless ammo. << those two came from C47 before the game settled into a rating system and before it was decided that every level had to have a SA way of doing it, but even in H2SA and Contracts there are deadly targets.

I’d also say that I really enjoy playing the game guns blazing 5% of the time. I think some of this is bc I was younger when I started playing hitman. It was way fun to use the cartoonish ballers in H2SA and throw NPC across the map. It’s still fun from time to time. More often then guns blazing I’ll use weapons if I have to. I like to play no restarts and I do mess up. When that happens often you have to shoot a couple dudes and get to a hiding spot or to a place where you can change costumes before the whole map descends down onto you.

As my final comment to the topic of armed targets, I’ll point out that when I play contracts where an armed guard is a target, and therefore has the capacity to fight back, it’s not any more interesting to me playing it than a non-armed target. I honestly feel that if the target is in a position to shoot you, you’ve already effectively lost.

In that sense, arm them or not. It wouldn’t make any difference.

If you have a target who has a weapon, it would also give a bit of a challenge in eliminating them: You can’t just isolate the target and their bodyguard/follower since you would be shot by the target if you try to knock out the bodyguard (or follower).

Armed targets are even easier to isolate than civilians and are killable with tasers. Civilians are generally harder to catch.

An armed target should be something else than guards. I guess the Berlin agents are the closest thing we get to that. What was neat is the boxer ET in China that was able to do close combat like guards. If I remember correctly.

THIS was what the island’s name reminds me of! Hopefully any cans of expired spaghetti sauce can be swapped with this  :

My initial thought was Mission Impossible 2 though, where Dougray Scott played as the main villain named Sean Ambrose, and the plot was about Ethan Hunt and his girlfriend infiltrate his private island.

not to get too on a tangent, the name also reminded me of the superfood in the Sims 3, “Ambrosia” you can make to have your sim live longer.

in reality, “Ambrose” means immortal in Greek, so I’m interested to see how that might reflect in the actual level/map itself. the targets probably believe themselves to be invincible, like gods. they have a massive army at their disposal and live in (probably) an uncharted area and…47 is undoubtedly ready to burst their little bubble

it actually sounds like Isle of Sgail typed out now…wonder if it’s the people who helped Zoe and Sophia steal art? hmm

I immediately thought about The twelve tasks of Astérix, because of that “island of pleasure” where they have only ambrosia and nectar
