My list is mostly driven by nostalgia.

I like all of the Ace Combat games. 4 is probably my favourite. I like a few of the NFS games especially Hot Pursuit 2 from 2002. The Original Command and Conquer and the first Red Alert were terrific. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark are basically one game in my memory now- couch play multiplayer for the win!

G Police and Neverhood took up tons of my time as a kid as has almost every entry of Madden NFL. My fav Mario is Super Mario Bros for SNES. I loved Metal Gear Solid for PS but hated every sequel of it. Vice City is my fav GTA but the first 3D game was good too. The newest Call of Duty games have the best online multiplayer. I love all the Hitman games but I think my fav game ever might be Links Awakening for the GameBoy.

PS Link is a southpaw and they need to go back to that with the new games

Edit* I left out StarFox 64, Wolfenstein 3D for DOS and WWE No Mercy which was IMO the pinnacle of wrestling games.
Edit 2* oh and the strategy games Star Wars Rebellion and Gangsters: Organised Crime weā€™re both incredible for their time.

You need to play the Switch remake if you havenā€™t already! Thatā€™s a damn great Remake.

What a great Tune.

I donā€™t have a switch but maybe someday Iā€™ll get one and give it a go. Thanks for the tip.

Shame there isnā€™t such wackiness in the newer games

I never knew you could do that :joy:

I donā€™t play that many different genres, but we were doing this kind of a list with friends so just sharing it here as well.
(I donā€™t hate any games, I do respect the first SMB but itā€™s not fun to play, didnā€™t come up with anything more modern)

Gonna keep it simple for now with what is my current all-time top 10 (well, 9ā€¦ still havenā€™t decided on which game would be worthy of the last spot):

  • Mafia (the original one)
  • Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (aka Arma: Cold War Assault)
  • Splinter Cell (or Chaos Theory, depending on the current mood, but I tend to come back to the first one more in recent years)
  • Hitman: Blood Money
  • Hearts of Iron II
  • Commandos 2: Men of Courage
  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein
  • Assassinā€™s Creed II
  • L.A. Noire

Not sure how I missed this thread last year but Iā€™ll chime in. My all-time favorite games are (yeah, some of these are pretty old):

Hacker
Great American Cross Country Road Race
Red Dead Redemption 2
Hitman (Iā€™m lumping all of them into one game)
M.U.L.E.
The Longest Journey
Knights of the Old Republic
SimCity
Kingā€™s Quest series
World of Xeen (Clouds and Darkside installed together)
Warhammer 40k: Soulstorm (with the other ones installed as well)

If I had to break it down to a top ten, it might look like this in no particular order.

Hitman 2016
Hitman Blood Money
Red Dead Redemption
Manhunt
Kingdom Come Deliverance
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Aliens vs. Predator 2
Friday the 13th
Life is Strange

And recently, WolfQuest AE has shown itself to be a worthy contender for this list. Only time will tell, but it really scratches the right itch for me.

A couple of GTA games get honourable mentions, namely San Andreas and GTAO. I have a definite love-hate relationship with GTAO, and itā€™s become so bloated and overfilled with content that I hardly feel much connection with it these days. But Iā€™ve undoubtedly played it for a metric shit ton of hours so Iā€™d be lying to myself if I didnā€™t admit that it belonged on here somewhere.
