It’s been ages, but I remember really enjoying it and have been meaning to see it again. I hear the director’s cut is an improvement.
Just checking to see if anyone’s paying attention.

There were a few older movies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! that put stuff in the credits just to entertain people who were still reading.
The best part of police squad are the “freeze frames” at the end of each episode
I wish they’d made more episodes of that show (though almost every joke in the series was in one of the Naked Gun movies.
Thumbs up for giving that one a mention
Don’t apologize. It’s better than Goodfellas.
The original anime one, I presume?
Standard version or extended? (or both?)
Unsure which version I’ve seen But I’ll put the extended version in my watch list just in case.
Extended version mainly has added scenes of Leon training Mathilda, so if you recall her going on hits with him and shooting a drug dealer with a paintball gun, or Leon “introducing” the ‘ring trick’ to her, you saw that one. I personally prefer it.
From the rooftop of a building while the guy was jogging am I right?
Nope, that’s a different scene, present in both versions. In this one they walk up to a dealer’s flat where Mathilda shoots him with a paintball pistol (and then Leon does the real deal).
man, rod steiger has so much pathos in that film. i wanna cuddle the sweaty teddy bear.
just the op said “other than scorsese”.
i’ve probably said this before, but i feel the same about goodfellas/casino as i do holy grail/life of brian: the former is a collection of individually great scenes while the latter is better as a cohesive film.
but yeah, it is better. plus, it’s secretly a western.
hell yeah. not seen the live action one yet.
If we exclude Scorsese films I’d say Forrest Gump and Inception are some magnificent movies. I really adore the storytelling in Forrest Gump. The growth of the character is touching. Inception has some bone chilling visuals and soundtrack. Though the story will be a bit vague on the first watch.
Cinematography categorie I’d say No Country for old Men. This movie is stunning. The tension build up in some scenes and the marvellous shots of the rougher American countrysite is just The antagonist alone is worth the watch!!
Honerable mentions/must watch:
Aye, he´s wonderful.
Ah… I totally missed that. Didn´t realize that was where your sorry came from. Though personally I wouldn´t even think of adding a Scorsese flick to a “best movies” list…
Couldn´t agree more.
I will honestly need to rewatch it to come to that realization.
It was surprisingly not as bad as I had expected, but obviously not as good as the original (though now I´m not sure if I´ve even seen the original original… definitely saw the 2.0 version of it…).
It does have gorgeous cinematography - which goes for just about any film with Deakins behind the camera - but is far from the most entertaining movies… (which I retrospectively attribute to it being a 1:1 adaptation of a rather boring book)
There are a lot of good movies that everyone should see at least once. Probably forgot some.
Godzilla ('54)
Terminator 1
Alien 1
Predator 1
Nightmare on Elm Street 1 + 3
M (Fritz Lang)
Original Star Wars Trilogy
Jaws
The Fly (80s Remake with Jeff Goldblum)
John Carpenter’s The Thing
American Psycho
Scarface
Naked Gun 1-3
Ginger Snaps 1 +2
The Blob (80s Remake)
Jurassic Park 1
Misery
Leon the Professional
I never read the book though. That goes for most movies I watch. To me it was a satisfying experience to go in blind and watch it as a product standing on its own. The cinematography is great, acting is good and the tension building is phenomenal (Anton being presented as a phantom or the grim reaper in the flesh). The only part that suffers from the 1:1 book adaptation is the ending.
I will honestly need to rewatch it to come to that realization.
just look at the three main characters’ archetypes: a gambler, a hooker, and an ‘outlaw’…

it looks lush, i’ll give it that. batou looks ridiculous though.
innocence (the animated sequel) is surprisingly good btw. highly recommend it.

i love the book and the film. they’re both really tense. to be fair, i love a slow burn. blood meridian is a favourite.
M (Fritz Lang)
great shout! lorre is a legend.
you seen metropolis? beautiful film.
The original anime one, I presume?
Wait, there’s an anime version?
Yes, of course, the anime version.
The anime original is of course the better version, but I’ve enjoyed the live action movie too.
We’ll never get any closer to Skinheadgirl Johansson than this
I re-watched Heat last night before starting the sequel (which is a book). Michael Mann is a master. The film hasn’t really aged at all and Heat is still the best crime drama ever.

I read this one after seeing the movie (which is often the case for me - a movie pointing out the existence of a certain book). Basically I felt that the book had good themes and basic plot points, and an adaptation would´ve been better if it just took those but built its own story around it. But that´s just my opinion.
The only part that suffers from the 1:1 book adaptation is the ending.
Well, that and the whole presence of TLJ´s sheriff. His character and comments make sense in the book, but are completely unnecessary in the movie.
just look at the three main characters’ archetypes: a gambler, a hooker, and an ‘outlaw’…
Wait, so Trading Places is a western too…?
it looks lush, i’ll give it that. batou looks ridiculous though.
I actually enjoyed Asbaek in that role. Like I said, it wasn´t nearly as bad as I was afraid it would be. Most distracting thing was the size of Scarlet´s buttocks…
innocence (the animated sequel) is surprisingly good btw. highly recommend it.
It´s been sitting in my (extensive) movie backlog for years now. Really need to finally watch it… Getting on the subject in the meantime got me finally watching the SAC series, lol.
i love the book and the film. they’re both really tense. to be fair, i love a slow burn.
The book was mostly boring for me, courtesy of having seen the film before that (which was tense, yes). I enjoy a slow burn myself, but this one was one of those which I just didn´t find quite entertaining. I think the fact that the Coens threw in some of their “trademark” awkward characters/moments didn´t help, as it didn´t fit the overall tone of the movie imo. I might have to give it another watch though, it´s been ages since the first/last time…
Wait, there’s an anime version?
Yes, of course, the anime version.
Juuust making sure… You never know…

Man, I absolutely love Mann, but as great as Heat undoubtedly is, I still get bored at times when watching it It could use a shorter running time… Btw have you ever seen the “beta” Heat, L.A. Takedown? It´s hilarious
Also, I would like to know who on earth decided to cut Pacino´s legendary “Ferocious, aren´t I?” quip during the ass scene
All great dramas are too long, yes I have seen LA Takedown, and the entire part about Ashley Judds “great ass” was ad-libbed by Pacino.
