What was the issue with the execution? Other than Superman not just flat out calling her his mother to save time and confusion, it otherwise went down the only way it could have to get through to Batman how badly he was fucking up. The execution of the moment happened how it had to happen, and people just drew the wrong conclusions from it. Internet whiners do that a lot, completely misinterpreting what is said/happening to mean something else. It even happens to Marvel despite them being leagues ahead of DC in this game, with Thor’s “adopted” comment in the Avengers and Black Widow’s “monster” comment in Age of Ultron being other good examples that drive me fucking crazy.
I suppose it would have been more in keeping with the character as established in the movie for Superman to say “I have to save my mother” instead of “I have to save Martha” given he’d never (as far as I recall) referred to her by her first name before, but beyond that, I had not problem with it.
I think it was to keep Batman from knowing his relation to her. Lois decided to give it, but Supes was still trying to keep up the secret identity thing, despite being long past that.
i found it clunky, patronising, and untruthful; it felt more like the writer winking at the audience than a human exchange. it didn’t feel real, even in the context of a movie about buff jesus and a nazi in a halloween costume,
it also felt to me like a flimsy reason to bring bats down from his fash-rage and help him recognise supes’ humanity. like, the next time a minority gets their head kicked in by a fascist, i’m sure saying their mother’s name will help.
i found it to be a lame climactic emotional moment in a largely boring movie. kinda like the non-squid ending of watchmen.
no. it was literally decided that was how it would happen.
calling people who don’t like it “internet whiners” or saying “they don’t get it” comes across as disingenuous, pompous and dismissive; people aren’t wrong for how they feel about it and the scene isn’t some masterclass in depth and nuance. there are plenty out there who have explained in carefully considered detail why they don’t like it. i will not be one of them this day.
I just mean those who take the dialogue at face value and don’t think over what’s really being said, like those who say that suddenly the two friends because their moms have the same name, and that is in no way what happens there or why it happened. That’s what I meant by internet whiners.
i don’t think it takes a genius to unpack it. no matter how you slice it, it’s asinine.
Well, it was definitely stupid, just not for the reasons most people tend to complain about.
new Hunger Games movie based on a prequel book.
The concept sounds cool (the first Hunger Games/the rise of Snow) but ehhh it looks mediocre?
The trailer seems weirdly edited, too much focus on the music, not the film’s audio, they show a lot but not really enough to hook me. That fucking “Do you hear? It’s snow… falling…” is such a dumb trailer line lmao
My favourite part of Songbirds and Snakes is when President Snow says “It’s Snow time!” and proceeded to Snow out over the competitors

I went to the movie theatre today to see a special 15th anniversary screening of Ponyo
Before the film they played the newest trailer for Across The Spider-Verse. Welp. Guess I couldn’t avoid it forever.
MAN it looks so GOOD. WOW.
It looks like they’re cramming in SO much to this film, I really hope they can pull it off!!
New trailer for Oppenheimer. Looking forward to it, and hopefully it won´t take 6 more months for it to come to Japan… (wink wink, Mr. Wick)
On VE day, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the avant-premiere is the 16th of July, the trinity test birthday.
I’ve been waiting for this movie since it’s announcement.
One, it’s Nolan. Two, the Manhattan Project is such an interesting and unique moment : all of the brightest minds of the time, on the forefront of a new(ish) science, all pulled together for one goal, with full government backing. In a way it’s beautiful, perfect.
Also, a small prediction : with the focus on time, race against it, clocks, and ticks, the movie will (in the end) talk of the doomsday clock. Maybe even end with close up of one ticking out at 1158 or 1159.
I only hope Nolan doesn’t do what Michael bay did with the famous quote in Pearl Harbor. It’s not likely, but considering how famous it became after the fact, he might put it in just because people would be expecting it. Remember in Pearl Harbor, after the attack was over, we see the Japanese admiral say to his officers that he fears they have awoken a sleeping giant. In reality, the admiral wrote it in his diary later, he didn’t openly say it and certainly not immediately following the attack, but people knew the phrase so Bay threw it in. I hope Nolan doesn’t show the first test in New Mexico and have Oppenheimer actually whisper out “Now I Am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds.” That’s what Oppenheimer arrived at later upon reflection, he didn’t actually say that shit on the spot watching the damn thing blow up. I’m pretty sure Nolan is smart enough to not fall into that, but still, Hollywood and all.
It won’t be Nolan that does it. Some executive somewhere will hand off a “note” that says “Opp. needs to make well known quote. Add to detonation scene.” and that will be that.
Executives are so worthless.
