Personally don’t think it’s worth the price if you have to buy a disk drive separately
I don’t think it’s worth it under any circumstances. What games are pushing the PS5 to its limits that it even needs to be more powerful? Astro Bot? There’s not even been that many games that are PS5 specific, several devs are still doing PS4 versions of games too. Maybe by the time PS6 comes around devs will finally be making fully PS5 games.
I love this sentence from the Playstation Blog: “It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase” One feature that’s an actual upgrade, one feature that is expected of every single console under the sun, and a pack-in game which has already been included in every PS5 since day one. Great promotion guys!
And you gotta love how even though they’re charging $700, they had to sell the $80 disc drive separately. For that price they couldn’t even include a hunk of plastic for a vertical stand!
I wasn’t going to buy it in the first place, but at 700 bucks (800 euro!) I’m definitely not going to buy it.
I hope it flops. It won’t, but I hope it does.
No idea who this is for really? People with 8K TVs and too much money on their hands?
Really, my hope is that with how much time it takes to develop games nowadays, and how much things have slowed down, I’m kindof hoping the 7 year cycle Xbox and Playstation were sticking too will be broken. It’s worth noting that with the Switch successor coming out next year, that will come out 8 years after the first Switch. Do we need a rush for a PS6 when so many devs still develop for the PS4 still? A longer dev time between main Playstations would make stuff like Pro versions a little more palatable.
With the current lineup of PS5 games, this Pro model makes zero sense. They are working hard at pushing hardware boundaries but that means jack shit if there’s no software to show for it.
Very similar story to PSVR2. Great headset but only a couple of games utilising it.
Maybe this will make sense in the latter half of the 2020s if Sony finally puts the pedal to the metal and release some games. It’s been pretty dry since the original PS5 released.
I won’t be upgrading any time soon.
This console generation hasn’t been pushed to the limits yet and it’s largely because with how previous and modern generation have been meshed together in a circumstance where while technically yes there is better hardware not many who still run with previous generation consoles don’t have that need to purchase a Series X or PS5
I’d be surprised if something like GTA 6 is “pushing” the hardware to it’s limits too but knowing how well Rockstar is with them exclusively focusing on consoles for their releases before anything PC is considered it just gonna be extremely optimized for the players experience.
There’s nothing “Pro” about this PS5 and the pricing for such console is outrageous especially for something that is all digital.
This is gonna be $959.99 CAD
Nearly 1 thousand dollars. And it’ll be over a thousand if you include tax.
Mamma Mia.
Yeah, such an expensive “luxury” “Pro” console isn’t really needed right now.
The PS5 as it currently is works just fine, and even then lots of games are still cross-gen with 4 since it’s a bigger market overall and not a lot of devs are pushing their games to require the PS5’s more powerful hardware.
For those who want, i dunno, More Ray Tracing tech and I guess the ability to be a little faster and at higher resolution, fine, I guess.
The type of people that are gonna buy this probably aren’t wanting for cash anyway.
At the moment though, PS5 is fine, even if not totally required these days.
But the games that truly utilize its power and features are great (and the PSVR2 is also great albeit expensive )
Plus, the one best thing about this console gen is the improved load times.
I love being able to boot up a game (or a specific save/level in like 5-6 seconds.
Playing AC syndicate recently and having the boot up and things like restarting checkpoints take 30 seconds at minimum was a little annoying (yeah I’ve become accustomed to luxury loading lol, but its so good!!)
Oh well my PC in a few months will be more expensive But I hope I can outrun the PS5 Pro in terms of running games well.
The people who will buy this are the “yo, bro” crowd who play sports games and GTA. Every year we are just shocked when whatever sports game puts out its unnecessary new version… and every year we are shocked when they sell millions of copies. These dudes will buy this PS5 Pro, if only to say “yo bro I got the pro y’know”.
Gotta be honest - I’ll probably end up getting one. Not because I have a desperate need for it - I’m just lucky enough to have the means to buy frivolous things like this on a whim. If it becomes a worthwhile purchase over the next few years, great. If not, no big deal.
But for those not in the same position as me, I can see why the response is what it is.
I’m curious. Why? Do you already have a PS5? What makes you want to throw money at this when it has nothing showing for it? Sure, if it had some insane, drastic upgrade and there were actually games for it, I’d understand. Even if you have money to spend, this just seems like throwing it away.
You can do whatever you want, but I’m genuinely baffled why someone would actually consider buying this at this point in time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more pointless piece of hardware.
Partially due to I would be buying another one soon anyway. My launch console has been having increasingly bigger issues for the last year or so (it’s lived a hard life and gotten a bit damaged over time).
So a little extra to get this when the amount is somewhat meaningless to me makes it a “may as well” type situation rather than a “I must have this”.
Introducing the Playstation 30th Anniversary Collection:
I’d just like to say it was really fucking stupid for the DualSense to get rid of the iconic colors for the Playstation Buttons, that’s something I realized even more playing Astro Bot with its levels themed around the green triangle, pink square, red circle and blue cross/X. If they wanted to be accurate they’d have made all those levels gray.
Hey, at least now they’ll sell a version that has the colored buttons like it should’ve from the start! In “highly limited supply” so scalpers can have a field day! And it combines old with new: A more classic look and coloring for the controller that hearkens back to the golden days of the PS1 while still having the stick drift of modern controllers!
And they’re so generous they include a gray disc cover for the PS5, but of course they couldn’t include the disc drive itself! Why would a game console trying to reference the first ever massively successful console to use discs have a disc drive?
The Playstation Stars rewards system is a little broken with its items to reward for – but in a slightly good way?
Basically, for digital funds, they’ve got 1,250pts for a 5$ redeem. Or, 6,250pts for a 20$ redeem, …that offers no savings and is basically worth waiting to redeem five 5$ rewards at once.
But when it comes to Items on the Store, things get weird.
They change every few months but I’ve found the prices/$ rewards to mostly match up, with a little savings here and there…
Currently, you can get the Deluxe Edition content for Astro Bot for 2,500 points, exactly 10$ which is what it’s worth.
Also beside it, save 3$ from the new Doom1+2 collection for the same price. Okay.
Perhaps you’re a fan of Helldivers and want some of that fancy currency you don’t want to grind out. Well, for the regular 5$ price you can get 2$ in savings, pretty good for an “exchange”!
-Oh, and also, of course, the more you’ll spend, the more you’ll save, as Stellar Blade only costs 70$ worth of points for a 90$ game…
But wait! Helldivers 2 has more rewards with wild savings that totally screw up the consistency in point values.
Save 3.49 for the 10$ currency pack, and, what’s this?? The Deluxe Upgrade that gets you a mini pass of content (worth 1,000 SC/10$), plus extra doodads in game and a little minigame on your ship, is priced the exact same…! For a 20$ price difference! Huh?
Just kinda proves to me that they really overpriced the Deluxe Upgrade, and thankfully I’ve just saved up enough points to redeem it for a 10$ price, essentially!
(So far, the lowest it’s been on sale is 20$, and it is currently 24$ in the store…)
Just so other people know, yeah Activity Cards are “broken”. Not just for Hitman, but for every game on the PS5. And I say “broken”, because it might be intentional…
Normally, these things can skip splash screens and main menus, and just shove you right into your save file, or a level of your choosing. (Just last month I was using it for Astro Bot)
But now, all they do is a cold boot of the game no matter what.
If SHOULD be a bug, maybe… But Sony recently pushed out an update that changed how they’re labled, with no mention of a fix for the Cards anyway…
It’s a really weird thing, and – yes while it wasn’t all that popular, or consistent across every game – it’s basically been removed, or deactivated, and that makes no sense just because it wasn’t the most popular feature…
I don’t think I’ve ever intentionally used the activity cards. I know I did click on one accidentally years ago for H3 and it stayed marked as “In Progress” for months until it eventually disappeared.
Which is actually a shame because I think it’s a great feature for skipping all the dumb shit associated with rigamorale in these games. Skips loading, skips all sorts. So if they remove thaytt, hten that’s a dumb idea/ I get that it isnt popular, but it’s mostly unpopular because it’s hidden rather than it not being useful sortty for bad cgrammar i jst had a surgery on my hand
