My mom with her husband are away for a small vacation so I have to feed their cat, my ex cat :smiling_face_with_tear:
Look how beautiful she is. I’m seriously thinking to get one of my own but eh… I don’t have a balcony at home and this holds me back a bit.

How balcony influences on getting a pet?

Balconies are mainly used for “accidents”, not ideal for felines. They land on their feet and have nine lives. Making it harder to pull it off believably.

Not sure what you were trying to say here

You’d want them to have access to fresh air, so they’re not shrivelling inside.

Accidents, yes.

To stay a bit in the open with fresh air, my apartment is really tiny. @Norseman I live on the third floor so it makes it even more dangerous without a balcony if we look at it that way and this scares me.
I will see. For some time it cross my mind to adopt a senior cat and not a kitty

I can easily understand wanting a cat, I had that urge in all of my apartments. That said I’m also of that opinion that cats don’t belong in apartments and there is no such things as indoor cats. I waited until I had a house with a garden.

I had a cat years ago. I would never even have considered letting it outside. I know the area where I live has a large feral cat problem and it’s illegal to kill them. The only thing we can do to get rid of them is to trap them and bring them in to get neutered or spayed. Then they just let them go again. Lot of people around here just leave their garage doors open about six inches or so and let their cats just roam the neighborhood. I have had a lot of issues with neighborhood cats killing birds or fish on my property. I would urge anyone with a cat to not just let it out to roam your neighborhood freely.

Agreed. Not only can they cause a negative impact on local wildlife, but it’s not safe for the cats themselves.

My family used to be very fond of the idea of having our cats roam in and out as they please until two experiences: one succumbed to feline AIDS due to contracting it outside, and the other one left one day and never came back(this was bizarre, he’d lived with us for years). Everyone wants the best for their cat, but you never know what might happen.

The healthiest solution seems to be having a closed off outdoor space for them to hang out. Or a home with many screened windows.

Oof, sorry for the long winded response. Just something that struck a chord

No joke but my best friend had an orange cat with one testicle and feline aids. He stayed most of the time outside actually they found him near home and since then he never left his house

If I was a cat, I’d rather roam freely and suffer the consequences than live in a glorified prison with plastic toys and processed food.

It’s been a couple years but my cat got outside one time and had been missing for a couple days. I always kept her inside. She finally showed up on my porch… I let her in. She had this look to her… Like she knew she shouldn’t have done that, and she’ll never go outside and wander again. :joy:

Seriously. She looked like she was either sick or (had been) scared. A few people are living nearby with large dogs. So no telling what happened to her or got her out of her wits.

So living in general.
