[Serious - TW: Sexual Assault] Conor McGregor (The Disruptor) verdict and presence in the game

That’s…a very reasonable take to be honest.

Hiring McGregor wasn’t a good idea to begin; just…why? I understand that they want to reach out to a broader audience, but that choice was incredibly ill-advised to begin with.

Unfortunately, like many here, I’m fairly certain that IO will just not respond (or at best, put out a vague hand-waving statement) to this.

At best, we can hope IO’s learnt their lesson and exercises greater caution when it comes to including public figures in their games.

Likely they will, if they want to avoid future controversies like certain other gaming companies have had in the last few years that have caused a downward turn in how the public views them.

We can technically forgive Busey, because as far as we know, his main controversies came well after they got involved with him. McGregor, yikes, that one could have been easily avoided, but let’s assume for the moment that IOI just didn’t have a reliable vetting process when they agreed to the deal with him.

Or possibly that they were willing to take the risk this one time in exchange for the possible financial boost a celebrity of his status could generate, since they are still a relatively fledging company as far as being independent, and are trying to secure the company financially as quickly as possible before they really throw themselves out into the world with what they can do beyond Hitman.

Whichever the case, or some third possibility, as long as they don’t make such a mistake again, I’m sure the fanbase will move on quietly if they stay quiet about it themselves. But, if this should be repeated, they’re likely going to have a real problem with their public image.

They just posted this on twitter

Wonder what this means for the content in-game. I’m imagining they’re going to stop selling the dlc pack, but not remove it from the game entirely.
I’d recommend scooping it up before they do anything if that stuff interests you.

Wonder what will happen to the people who bought the pack. Happy io are doing this though

Didn’t think they’d actually do this, but it’s pleasant to see. We’ll see what they end up doing with the content.

Interesting reactions, many seem to not understand that being able to kill him ingame is not something that bothers him as he gets/got paid for that.

my favorite one is someone who complains they wanted a heads-up in advance so people get a chance to buy it. Like, the exact opposite IOI wants to do here. FOMO²

I hope that they’ll do something with at least the content since as a completionist (item wise and not ET wise since that ship has sailed for a while for me) it’ll be kind of annoying having even more missable content, but at the same time I am not willing to give my money to a controversial figure and to even more FOMO.

I support IOI’s decision, but I don’t want the content to become unplayable.
Will “The Disruptor” become unplayable, just as “The Wildcard” already has no way to play?
Personally, I hope that the content that has caused problems will not just be removed, but that the appearance and name will be replaced with someone else, someone fictitious and not real, and then redistributed…

It looks like the dlc is no longer on any storefronts, like IO said they would do. I bought the pack when it came out and still have access to it. Hopefully they change out the model and voice for someone else and put it back up for those that don’t own it as the barechest/furcoat/plaidpants suit you get from buying the dlc is fucking baller.

Son of a bitch, they actually did it.

Just saw their response. Damn. Good on them.

It is unfortunate that it took a court ruling for them to realize how much of a dick he is though. He did have a bad reputation before this

So, there will be another great piece of content cut. Couldn’t they just replace the character and name to preserve a mission that’s really enjoyable to play? Same thing for The Wildcard.
I find this decision truly stupid.

Great? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

And it’s not being cut, at least that’s not what they said and they haven’t done it yet, it’s just not available for anyone else going forward. If you already have it, unless they take away the DLC completely, you aren’t affected.

he can still think its great no matter what you think about it lol

Not relevant, and not the point. This content is objectively, axiomatically, not matching up with the definition of “great,” so that was an exaggeration on the face of it.

It’s not confirmed if that will happen, though I strongly suspect it will.

I didn’t find the mission all that enjoyable (it’s replayability is quite minimal and it railroads you into fighting him). I appreciate the effort taken to make it unique, but as missions go, it’s not that great.

IOI are caught between a rock and a hard place, and no matter what they do, not everyone will be happy. That said, what they did seems to have been a good call, judging by the ongoing state of the subreddit and the forum. I feel like you’re mixing up a stupid decision (this was a smart decision, if predictable) with “decision I dislike because content is being removed”.

I wouldn’t be against the ET/A being redone either, just to preserve what they can.

Also, to add, if you’re reading this @Combatglue,please donate some of the profits of the DLC to a relevant charity. If nothing else but as a gesture of good-will on behalf of the company.

I’m still astonished this was a collab at all to begin with. We already know how much of a piece of human garbage Conor was at that point, including all the sexual assault.

if its not relevant then why did you link to a post of you expressing your opinion about it
