For all we know (or rather don’t know), new items like these could be unlocks tied to mastery level or certain challenges in the full version of the mode. And as with any other unlock, that would make them available in the main game
All I know is that I will be crushed like Tamara Vidal on a winery tour if this stays a Freelancer-only item…
Am I missing something or does this not make sense? Got SA, which requires not being compromised, but failed ‘do not get compromised’?
In normal missions you can get SA even if a target spots you, if they are killed before they can tell anybody else. Maybe this is not true for “Do Not Blow Your Disguise” here?
Strangely this one failed for me too, and the targets didn’t even spot me.
Editing this comment as this literally just happened, despite the no recordings bonus saying you can delete the evidence if recorded, my foot clipped a camera and completely failed the objective
I’m sure that some of those challenges are supposed to have rewards associated with them, they just obviously didn’t include them in the files (along with plenty other Mastery Track rewards, maybe a few challenges) since they don’t concern the CTT version of Freelancer.
Contracts Mode can have “No Bodies Found” set, which literally means, No Bodies Found, not even the Target can see. So, its probably the same thing here
About the the -mission loot boxes:
Right now the only reason to even go for the in-mission loot boxes is because a few of them have Merces in them, the rest of the contents are just pure trash. Even the poisons don’t have a rarity attached, so you can’t bring them back to the Safe House.
I’d say put some probabilty that stuff the from your three cases shows up in there. Mainly poison stuff with rarity.
Its basically only ever a Breakable Distraction, Non Lethal Melee, or Lethal Melee.
Maybe a crowbar or Sawed Off Shotgun, but those are rare.
Definitely needs a small, small chance of a poison or small firearm.
10.000 syndicate leader kills will unlock The Undying in ETA
Day 2 & 3 and now reached capped Mastery Level 25. Having heaps of fun in Freelancer Closed Beta Testing. I am looking forward to seeing it fully released in January. It runs well on my Gaming Laptop too. I played Day 1 with just the Gaming Laptop and the Xbox Controller but in Day 2 & 3 plugged my laptop to the TV with the HDMI.
The customisation is great for what was available and I’m sure there’ll be heaps more when we have 100 or more Mastery Levels. I like how some of the things grants you an item that you can bring with you just before you head off to the next mission.
Of course, I still suck at this and haven’t completed a Campaign Run. Got to defeating my 3rd Syndicate and then stuffed up on my first Territory towards beating the 4th. 9 Locations is not really a lot to play with, but with 18 or something locations at Launch, I think it is possible to complete it without visiting a location twice. Though that would be pretty much luck if that happens. The difficulty does escalated tremendously during your Campaign Run. I had to look at 9 people for the 3rd Syndicate Showdown at Whittleton Creek. If you do scare them and make them escape the level, the game eventually notifies you that the Leader is escaping and it is all just about distance. If it looks further away from an exit, it is likely the leader. The other members are fine if they leave. The leader is the one you must take out.
They do spawn reward crate stuff from time to time. I’ve gotten a few rare firearms that way.
btw one more thing, while I find the GOAT challenge a bit much I don’t care about slow mastery. This is not supposed to be a new map that we can master over two long evenings (as it was, at least for me, with Ambrose Island) but instead a long-term mode.
So if Mastery means replaying it for weeks or even months I’m fine with that. Especially if Freelancer gets updates (nothing huge, but small aditions) over time.
So, slow Mastery is fine for me
I’ve played Freelancer for about 10 hours now, and I think this gamemode is definitely something that will be able to leave me playing Hitman for a few more years. I love the new formula, and I feel like it’s a nice breakaway from typical Hitman.
The good:
- The merces system is a really cool concept. However, like others in this thread have said, you could multiply each Merces by 1000 to make it feel more like real money
- Suppliers, couriers and safes make missions much more interesting. I can see that IOI may have taken inspiration from the Assassin’s Creed franchise with stuff like couriers
- The weapon collection system is a great motivation for people to keep playing. I do think it’s a little harsh for 47 to lose absolutely everything in the safehouse when he dies in a Showdown though
- Optional objectives, keep missions interesting as well
- The new UI for showdown missions (lookout nearby, etc.) is great
- I noticed how guards would swarm potential exits when 47 was spotted after killing the Leader, which was a nice touch and forced me to find other exits
- Safehouse customization is very fun, maybe add more options if it’s not too much work
Now the not so great:
- “Bread and butter” missions just mark NPCs normally in the mission as targets. This doesn’t feel like killing actual syndicate members, just normal people we’ve seen thousands of times before. It’s weird how couriers and lookouts have their own (supposedly randomized) routes, but not the actual targets. Perhaps new target NPCs can be added with their own randomized faces and outfits to differentiate them from the NPCs already in the level (like Colorado-style clothes for arms traffickers, robes and suits for occult, suits for big pharma, etc.)
- I did notice that leaders did not have random appearances but rather selected from pre-made models. Maybe there’s a way to actually randomize leader appearances?
- Assassins don’t have much purpose as normal bodyguards in civilian clothing, they should be given deadlier weapons, and maybe even grenades that can kill 47
- There are only 8 syndicate types. More syndicate types, such as organized crime, insurgents, drug trafficking, etc.
- Almost every leader is a white guy with a hat and glasses. More leader looks (like different races, genders, curly or straight hair, facial hair, weight) and tells (like tired, chronic back pain, references to a certain type of Alabama peach jam)
- Targets and important NPCs being in the map, since the missions are supposed to take place after 47 has eliminated providence
- and of course the many other bugs that have been mentioned in this thread
Overall, this mode has great potential, and I think the experience so far has been fresh and exciting. I look forward to playing this mode in January.
The vault should allow you to store Merces, that doesn’t get lost when failing mission; but you can’t spend when in the field.
I have enjoyed what I have played so far.
Here are are couple my comments that immediately come to mind.
-
Losing equipment. I will agree with anything you have gathered during the mission (need to make it to safe house to become inventory). I will also concede to equipment brought from previous missions. But I think that unique equipment/items rewarded or purchased should not be lost, maybe held to be repurchased.
-
No payout on completion. Why is it optional objectives only? If someone does not or can not complete an optional objective, why are they being punished with no payout if they successfully complete the mission.
Do you imagine the Merces in the safe wouldn’t be lost in case of failing the mission, or what would be the purpose of this?
If yeah, then I’d suggest a limit on how much you can add to your safe inbetween missions, like maybe max 5 or 10 Merces.
I don’t mind slow mastery levels. Freelancer Mode should be a mode that you can play whenever you feel like it. If the regular Stealth Hitman is getting boring for you, try Freelancer where there are risks.
Found a bug: when holding a banana, these keybinds don’t work. I got softlocked in this interaction and couldn’t get out. Also couldn’t activate Instinct.
e: Actually, it might be because of the customize prompt by the kitchen counter (where you have the ‘clean surface’ option.) That appears to not work and leaves you stuck in ‘customize mode’.
e2: after looking at the mission select board in this mode, every time 47 stands still, it goes into “first-person” mode with a fisheye lens.
“Don’t blow your disguise” seems to auto-fail for me. Has anyone successfully achieved it?
Also “you will benefit from disguising as a civilian” is confusing in an “attack while its tail is up” kind of way
