New Elusive Target: THE DISRUPTOR (Second Run: November 15 - December 8 2024)

I’m kinda sad Polish localisation was dropped between H2 and H3, since now the chances of experiencing first-hand an ET being translated in a funny way are basically gone.

With the latest CET (Celebrity Elusive Target) bonus packs, players get items usable in contract mode.
With The Undying Pack - Kronstadt Explosive Pen (Gen 2).
With The Drop - The Club Boom 12"" Vinyl Sampler.
In The Disruptor pack is the only lethal item The Disruptor Resistance Band which is not recognized by contract mode as the two items mentioned above.
Maybe IOI can consider programming at least one CET item specifically for contract mode.

I wonder if IO will change plans with The Disruptor’s planned return on November 15th, given it has now accidentally lined up somewhat with Conor McGregor’s civil trial in Ireland for sexual assault in 2018 and is expected to go on for a few weeks…

I doubt they’d want some articles on the ongoing trial also slipping in mentions of Hitman/IO somewhere.

It seems that the trial will be over in two weeks.
The judge decision will be given during the ET.

Hope it goes well for the victim.

Honestly: face swap him, have one of the usual voice actor redo his lines, and wash him away.
Also: do better vetting, and have a hard look in a mirror.

Oh no, who could’ve known that featuring a sex pest was not only in bad taste, but also a liability

Dealt with for the 2nd time! I’m personally pleased with what I managed to do - there was a small crux in my run when I opened a door to quickly go from the chapel to the landing pad as the gym guard kept spotting me, but then I realised that the small vents in the chapel door could be shot through, so distractions shots helped me out there!

Doing The Disruptor again, the biggest thing I’d forgotten is how dumb the mandatory end cutscene is. Especially if it’s true that they had to put it in cause of McGregor’s ego. Also, it looks like one of those fan modded videos, not something made by a major developer.

I hope he returns again and IOI alter his character model (like they did with Sean Bean and the eye patch) and we finally kill him properly this time

It’s probably unlikely as this was called ‘The Disrupter Returns’, but we can hope!

Warehouse start. I brought in a remote micro zapper and smuggled the tranq gun.

Tossed in 2 PTs into da choppah! Aimed with a coin and did an inventory swap (trick) so the zapper wouldn’t lock onto the guard’s head (you can get caught if anyone sees you throwing this). Then I went into the building with the guy and the Surveillance recorder, I aimed the tranq towards the ET through the window… I made sure to stand back far enough. I think I put the 4th line down on the aiming sight level with the sea behind him, I pulled the trigger… Bingo! He went down and started to escape.

Granted this took me about 5 or 6 tries until I got it. Either getting caught throwing the zapper or missing with the darts.

Once he was inside I activated the zapper. Exited via the warehouse.

Accidentally discovered that if you play out the scripted opportunity, if you bump/distract the MC after killing the target in the ring - it causes the exit to activate sooner and skip his dialogue about how the Disruptor is no longer breathing.

This is my favorite kill in this mission!

Well, after having completed this again, I’ve come to a realization: The Disruptor is the stupidest Elusive Target WoA has ever had. I make this claim for several different reasons, some of which I hadn’t even thought of until playing it again this evening.

We all know the four big things that we’ve discussed at length that we already knew were stupid about it:

  1. It’s a celebrity ET based on a guy who is an asshole at best, and has been credibly accused of multiple instances of sexual assault at worst.

  2. The primary supporting character of the mission, Tim Quinn, isn’t even supposed to be in the position he’s stated to be in anymore, according to Untouchable, making what was supposed to be another canon ET questionable, to put it mildly.

  3. To say that the ending cutscene is controversial for about four or five reasons, is to say that the Pacific Ocean is damp.

  4. The awful attention-grabbing/hand-holding mechanics of the mission, telling you exactly where the target is and exactly when, practically setting you on a rail line to fight him directly, exiting you from the mission just by winning the match. It’s almost pathetic in its simplicity.

But as I said, many more reasons occurred to me today, so here’s the new entries to that list:

  1. This is the only ET who doesn’t have an actual name, just a title, which is both an in and out of universe gimmick that seems incredibly pretentious and meaningless. Even The Fugitive and The Serial Killer had names that were confirmed, and if any two ETs made sense to just go by their titles…

  2. Why is the target described as a multi-billionaire? What exactly did this guy do to get that status? He doesn’t strike me as being either technologically-minded, nor hailing from an Old Money empire, so where’d his billionaire status come from? I could understand millionaire, based on his athletic success, but a billionaire?

  3. If he’s a billionaire, what’s his issue with Quinn? Shouldn’t he be more accepting of another rich guy taking up the sport? Sure, the guy’s a joke, but you don’t get to feel offended by a shrimpy rich dude joining your sport when you yourself are a billionaire who has nothing in your background (whatever that is) in common with the other fighters in your sport, just because you’re all buff and tatted.

  4. Why would the Ark Society host this event? Did we miss something where they went public after Providence fell? How the hell would they be able to explain it when a very public feud between two celebrities ends because of the announcement that one has died, and what are the odds that the coroner’s report details will be kept secret? What are the odds that The Disruptor would keep his mouth shut about it? Fighting to the death would have been illegal in the first place in most countries, right, so the scrutiny around such an event is a scandal in itself. What the hell was the Society thinking?

  5. Considering what the whole thing is based around, wouldn’t it just be easier for Quinn’s backers to just hire someone to break his arm to the point that he can never fight again and avoid the whole thing? Was counter-killing the assassin-by-default in the match really the only recourse?

I’m sure there’s others I’m not thinking of right now. But to reiterate in summary: yeah, this ET was stupid. Literally the most stupid one to have been released, both in a gameplay and story sense. It’s got a little bit of charm to it, mainly acknowledging that we’ve gone back to Isle of Sgail, and the references to 47’s fight with Sanchez, including 47’s line about it not being his first time engaging in such a match, but beyond little stuff like that, this just isn’t one for IOI to be particularly proud of.

So its set between Sgail and Untouchable then? Nothing confirms exactly where in the timeline it sits.

The lack of ICA involvement is a big indicator. The only time it could be set between the two missions and make any sense, even without the involvement of ICA, is between Haven and Dubai. Considering how adamant everyone around here was during the speculation on when the Ambrose mission took place that there was no realistic expectation of 47 deviating from his mission to find the Partners after Haven, and he took off immediately for Dubai, then according to that logic, that timeframe doesn’t work either. The only one that makes any sense is that it is set during the Freelancer period. And true, it’s possible Quinn might have been reinstated after Diana shut Providence down and his company was no longer beholden to her authority as Constant, but most likely it was just a good by IOI, one of many errors in judgement made with this ET.

The only recent one that we know, in terms of where it’s definitely located in the timeline, is The Drop. One because of the setting (revamped Club) and Diana’s dialogue with 47 during the mission. I guessed, like you, that the Disrupter takes place during the Freelancer period, however, is doesn’t make sense if Quantum Leap is established as all associated parties to Providence were dissolved when 47 and Diana exposed the ICA?

The associated parties themselves weren’t dissolved as far as we know. According to the cutscene, their leadership - the Providence heralds and other operatives - stepped down from their positions. This implies that the companies themselves still exist, and that the new leadership was not informed of Providence’s existence by Diana once they took over, effectively severing them from Providence, and this just repeated until there was nothing left but the direct assets of Edwards and the Partners, which I’m going to assume Diana dispersed based on her not appearing to be the richest woman in the world during Freelancer. So Quinn’s company would still be there, but it’s a discrepancy that he is.

I like the headcannon you posted earlier, it addresses several of these issues.

  1. Misremembering in his dream. Or Quinn got rehired.
  2. Directly addressed.
  3. Making himself more important in his dream.
  4. He’s so into his stage persona that his dream left out his real name.
  5. Self-aggrandisement in his dream.

As for some of the others,

  1. Even if he really is a billionaire, he also seems like the kind of jerk who’d hate anyone coming into his space that is in any way better than him. Being richer could qualify.

  2. Perhaps Quinn is a member and asked them to host it? A fight to the death would close off a lot of venues as you noted, you’d need some sort of underground or secret society to do it. Even if the real fight wasn’t to the death like the dream-fight, keeping it from the general public might still have led to this.

As for keeping Ark’s secrets, maybe they think they have enough control over the media through their various members to bury it even if it did leak. They probably have some experience with that sort of thing, considering all the other major projects they had going on that somehow didn’t get out to the public other than as part of conspiracy theories.

  3. Maybe they didn’t realize it in time to arrange that, or feared it would break his spirit and so make him ineffective as CEO. Along the latter lines, maybe Quinn’s previous wins were similarly through bribing or interfering with his other opponents and they had to escalate to hiring 47 to bring this one off.

In that context of my headcanon, yeah, these explanations work, but assuming it’s not, and even setting that aside, these numerous issues, needing this many explanations for the questionable nature of a single ET, still leaves it as the most stupid of all the ETs thus far.
