Movies You’ve Only Just Watched

I just watched The Princess And The Frog last night.

It had some oofy stuff with voodoo and ended on a really creepy joke about an adult waiting for a kid to be legal. Kind of soured the experience but the movie itself was good at least by Disney standards (not usually a fan and have no nostalgia with them). The animation was so beautiful though, like it’s one of the prettiest movies I’ve ever seen.

Personally don’t consider Logan a Super Hero film, but a modern/“futuristic” western about the dying west. That’s just me though. It’s less superhero compared to the rest of the films and more drama.

Just finished a series of programs Europe From Above by National Geographic.
It’s a documentary series about countries across Europe where it’s told about 4 seasons in each country with breathtaking views and stories.
So far it’s two seasons with 6 series in each, covering 12 countries in total.
It’s quite a good way to travel in modern circumstances, plus a unique way to see even your own country from the angle you never seen it before.
For those who love nature and travel it will be very well interesting and informative

Money Talks with Chris Tucker and Charlie Sheen. We have seen it before. It’s from the late ‘90s. It’s a buddy cop movie even though Sheen and Tucker are not cops in it. Same director Tucker would go on to make all 3 Rush Hours with. Very funny. Paul Sorvino has a medium sized part as well.

Last night we watched Scooby-Doo! and Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery, this is a straight to DVD Scooby Doo movie and it was released between both of the WWE Scooby Doo movies.

I know this’ll sound strange but this is seriously one of the most beautifully animated and shot movies I’ve seen in a while. I would recommend it to animation buffs for that alone. It’s not a great movie and even by Scooby Doo movie standards it isn’t one of the best written or anything but the animation is by far the best I’ve seen from this series. I almost feel like the production team was like “let’s put no effort into the plot, let’s have several minutes dedicated to just Kiss songs and let’s put ALL our effort into the animation”.

Also if you are interested in the plot this is so fascinating I can’t believe it. Let’s just say the members of Kiss are superpowered and do an anime magical girl transformation sequence, they all travel to another dimension to save the universe and the villain is after the magical dark crystal called (groan) Detroit Rock which is what Detroit Rock City is named after in-universe.

I watched this entirely sober and had a lot of fun. But I feel like this movie would only get better if you weren’t sober. This is definitely a fun watch if you have someone with you.

Don’t dismiss this until you see it in motion.

You are all welcome.

As an animation buff this has me super intrigued. Like… we’re talking about a licensed collab DVD special meant to entice fans of Scooby and KISS to buy into it… and while the plot migh be understandably sub-par, the animation is great? Oooooh.

EDIT: Oh, there’s a clip there. Oki doki.

I actually met Gene Simmons back in 2016. Nice guy, long tongue, crazy hair.

not a Kiss fan by the way it was just right place at the right time.

A YouTuber I liked did a video about many incarnations of Scooby Doo and he did point this out as a highlight for the animation alone.

We also watched the 2020 Halloween one based on his recommendation and that’s great and all, a better film overall but come one, this needs to be talked about.

Okay, wow. That did not need to be as complex as it was.

There’s a mix of 2D and 3D animation. Crazy psychedelic space backgrounds, the KISS characters are actually superpowered rock beings – not just themselves, making good use of the animation medium – …wow.

It’s been a long while since I’ve seen anything Scooby-Doo related, but good to know they’re still going on strong, in some aspects… (Pretty sure the last S-D related thing I’ve seen was the Supernatural/Scooby-Doo crossover special. It was a fun way to lampoon the Scooby series, Supernatural series, and mix some darker themes to it – I think Shaggy breaks his arm at one point. Yeouch.)

Actually a lot of media using KISS will depict them in their powered stage personas not the actual members of KISS. A lot of people think it was just make-up for show but KISS actually had stage characters (not unlike David Bowie) with powers.

I’m a pretty casual fan of Scooby Doo, I honestly can’t imagine being the type of person who is a hardcore fan of it but more power to them.

The show Be Cool Scooby Doo that everyone dismissed because of “yuck it has family guy art” was also a really well animated and really funny show. In a still frame it can look low effort but a lot of effort was put into that, actually one of my favourite incarnations of this series. And like I said the 2020 Halloween movie was really out there and well written.

Just going to say the series is somehow still going strong after all this time. I’m even downloading the seemingly bad WWE ones just because I want to know if they too will surprise me.

Wow, that’s pretty neat!

For those that are interested these videos are what encouraged me to check out the weird world of straight to DVD movies.

Recently, the animated movie Surf’s Up has popped into my head as something I should rewatch. I don’t remember much of anything from that film, watching it as a kid, and I definitely don’t remember it being a mockumentary-style movie.

Anyway, I’ve heard there was a sort of sequel to the film quite a few years later featuring a WWE crossover, and it’s also… bad. Like really bad, only-in-it-for-the-money bad.
Maybe WWE just isn’t a good type of media to mingle with other IPs? Strange coincidence.

I can imagine but honestly I didn’t expect to love Kiss meeting Scooby Doo in 2015 but here I am.

These all seemed like low effort bargain bin movies but I’ve been blown away a couple times now. Worst case scenario I get something funny to laugh at.

Well please report back when you do. I’m pretty interested now…

I’ll be sure to.

By the way 2020 one I keep saying is surprisingly good is Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo!. It was written and directed by the creator of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. It is worth a watch as well if you actually want something good to watch that isn’t Kiss with super powers.

Surf’s Up was such a shame because it never really committed to the hook of framing it like one of those old surf documentaries a la Endless Summer, it just kind of becomes a generic kid’s animated film as it goes on.

Ah, damn. That might be why I don’t remember it that way.
