Chat-control voting was postponed because it was not sure a majority would vote in favor of this. The main impact for this might have been that Germany announced in advance that they intend to vote against it.

Prior, our Ministry of Justice gave quite a statement regarding this proposal:

Germany is a country that has already experienced two dictatorships that had no regard for privacy. We are therefore particularly sensitive there and will take great care to ensure that privacy, especially private communication, remains protected.

Denmark considers to ban Telegram, WhatsApp and Signal because authorities can’t read the chats.

Meanwhile, Denmark’s Minister of Justice Hummelgaard suggested increasing the pressure on E2EE providers even further by geoblocking popular apps such as Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp to prevent criminals from enjoying a digital safe haven.

Interestingly, investigative journalists at Denmark’s frihedsbrevet.dk discovered that at least 70 members of the Danish parliament use encrypted messaging services themselves. Ironically, Hummelgaard was among the users of E2EE platforms he proposed to ban.

This is basically just television then. I don’t think this will result in anything but reverting such a change, if it comes at all.

What a strange way of saying that the owners of FaceBook want to shut the platform down…

Not really illegal, from what I read you just need to state that you’re an impersonator

It’s a joke. “Comedy is legal now” was one of the first things Musk tweeted when he gained ownership of Twitter.

Right before he tried to crackdown on parody accounts for the first time.

Didn’t know he said that. I don’t follow foreign news, so yeah.

But that’s just theory, a critical theory.

I did not bother pulling the game-censorship into this thread as there was no awareness to rise.

But regarding chat control, there is an update:

Leadership of the Council of the EU is changing every six month and sadly this thing is never buried, only delayed for the next one to try and get it through in some form. The current draft is one of the most extreme.

This is worldwide. There is a worrying number of wannabe dictators in the world (if you follow me on General News you know). If they were autocratic and no one cared or law punishiments applied to them, great! However they are celebrated as defenders of democracy and their loyal group of followers make up “facts” and paint news in their favour.

Why do people still think AI is a good idea?

Because the idea of not paying people a living wage (or less!) makes sharholders and executives cream their pants.
