My friend’s dog, Jimmy, died today. Earlier today he had a car crash which broke his back, and he died in the surgery queue due to internal bleeding. Such a cool friend he was :slightly_frowning_face:

Shit, I’m so sorry. Poor Jimmy, and poor friend. This is devastating.

Jimmy looks like he was a good boi.

Peach turns six today, at least we think she’s six and today is the day she was surrendered to the shelter we adopted her from, so that’s been designated her birthday. She got a full doggie cake and a bunch of treats from a dog treat maker in Florida called Moo’s Barkery, which we found on TikTok. She could not get enough of the treats and kept sniffing the table from the floor because she can smell the crumbs are still up there.

Peach Pie has a new little brother. Introducing, Homer “Henry” Charles!

Henry’s a little larger than Peach, but not by much, and is estimated to be 1-2 years younger. He’s had a hard life too, although no indication it was as hard as Peach’s was before we got her. Henry is really sweet, behaves mostly, already knows some commands, and is already showing signs of seeing my wife as his momma, just as Peach did, and Peggy before her. Peach has snapped at him twice, but we think it was just to tell him to back off and give her some space, she’s been mostly chill with him so far, excited at times. We’ll see how they get along full term, but I’ve got a feeling Peach will relax around him once she realizes he’s staying with us, and the two can play without us worrying that it’ll get rough.

Well, I’m sad to report that it seems Henry is only going to be a short-term guest of ours, not Peach Pie’s new brother. Henry has displayed a level of aggression at certain moments that we fear put Peach at risk, as she’s physically no match for him if he should get rough with her, and neither my wife nor I have the capacity to train a resource-guarding dog with the home/work schedules that we have. We’ve had to keep either Henry or Peach penned for too long of periods of time while taking care of the other to be a good solution in the long run for either one of them.

Henry had shown aggression with his previous family, but there had been a special needs child involved and it was assumed that the issues the child experienced disturbed Henry, hence why they had to give him up to the bulldog shelter. After contacting them about his displayed behavior with us, they agreed immediately that it means that there is more that Henry needs than just a new home, and we are not the best fit for him, as it is unfair and even potentially dangerous for Peach if she should try to defend us when Henry gets aggressive. They are going to take him back and find a better fitting home for him where he will be a lone dog for a while with someone who can train him properly to manage his aggressive moments.

This is sad, as I was hoping it would work out with Henry. He’s most of the time a very sweet, quiet, and pretty obedient dog. If it were just me and my wife we could handle it, but with Peach in the picture, we cannot take the chance. After seeing Peach become depressed when we showed Henry affection, and her almost desperate efforts to do her usual tricks immediately upon request, to apparently show us that she’d a worthy dog to have around, we now believe that she has settled into a solitary lifestyle and may not be happy having to share us with a sibling, even if we adopted an actual puppy that has none of the baggage an adult dog like Henry might have. It may just be her from now on.

Such a shame, but at least we learned quickly that neither us, nor his former family were the right fit for Henry, and now he can get a proper home.

I am sorry to hear that @Heisenberg since you were kinda excited for Henry  but it’s good that they take him back and will train him, so they can find a good home for him where he can get all the love and time he needs. And maybe it’s best for him to be the only dog in a small household with no children. I’m sure he will find a nice couple or a single mom or dad who will take good care of him :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

And it’s good that you and your wife immediately saw the problems and didn’t waited for them to escalate but have been honest about your situation and that you can’t take care of him. Lots of people aren’t that honest and than it gets worse for the dogs and their owners, so I am sure you did the right thing for you and for Henry
