Interesting. So after some 15 years, we´re finally gonna get that big open Sicily level in a Mafia game after all

Two things I´m wondering from the teaser:

  1. The fact that they use the ´The Old Country´ subtitle instead of calling it Mafia IV - does this indicate it is a sort-of spin-off rather than a mainline game? (also, why is the font different again?)
  2. If it´s going to be set entirely in the early 20th (or maybe even late 19th) century, there will be very minimal if any presence of cars (even if it´s the 1920s, I wouldn´t expect to see more than a handful in Sicily). How´s the open world traversal going to look like? Or have there been any rumours about it jumping between two different timelines? Edit: Just noticed on the game´s Steam page that there is a screenshot featuring a car. Still, I expect them to be few and far between.

Either way, I´m rather excited for this one.

Looks… okay I guess? They really seem to be taking the “make it as much as the RE remakes” route. Tbh, I´ve never played the original (or any SH game for that matter), and I do wanna try this, but it would be nice if alongside the remake they also re-released the old games like they did with MGS.

I don’t mind them taking notes from RE. The originals were also seen as direct competitors with a larger emphasis on psychological horror. Nothing new there.
If you’ve never played it and don’t know the story, I urge you to avoid spoilers (this includes the official trailers) and experience it first hand. The story is amazing.
Well, maybe not as amazing now as when I played it as a kid. Back then, this type of story was unheard of in games.

Yeah a re-release would be appreciated.

Hey look @Silvereyes!!

Player 2, Harry Hawker, finally gets his own starring-role video game!*

Pretty interesting reveal. I’m guessing it’s DLC that ballooned too big, so they’ve made it its own game, while Rebellion most likely works on a new engine for SE6 which will most likely come out eventually lol

*(the context here is that we both laugh after every single Sniper Elite co-op level, since the Exit cutscene always shows Karl fairburne leave the area, alone, with no help. ‘Harry Hawker’ is his off-screen right-hand man from one of the entries, but is the playable Player Two [with his own awful british accent voice over] who never got any credit… until now!!!)

Also:

Sniper Elite: Resistance Game Features:

  • Epic standalone campaign
  • Trademark X-ray Kill Cam
  • Advanced gunplay physics
  • New Propaganda Missions
  • Authentic World War II weapons and customisation
  • Fan favourite Invasion Mode (yaaayy)
  • Tense online multiplayer modes

It’s so funny, before Gamescom ONL yesterday I was joking that I was hoping for an announcement for a new Hitman or Sniper Elite, and I thought that was super unrealistic. Literally ten minutes later Rebellion dropped the trailer. :joy:

I’m still a tiny bit disappointed that it’s not SE6, but that would’ve been insane. I’ll take SER to tide me over, but I will miss Karl. Here’s hoping we can unlock him or at least play as him in side modes… :crossed_fingers:

Just posted this to the Upcoming Video Games thread, but this thread seems to be where we’re focusing on the ongoing showcase.

Edit: Oh and here is a great Eurogamer article on this game:

I am neither an Obsidian fanboy nor a Path of Exile Pillars of Eternity lol person, but i am down for this game!

Well * I * am!
So hype!
(pondered hype though, I still don’t particularly like fantasy settings)

I like fantasy, and creatures and magic and silly names, and player choice and emergent gameplay, and pretty colors!

I trust Obsidian to do something interesting.

Pillars of Eternity setting has an interesting metaphysic around souls. They are known objects that are studied, worked with.
And as any good Obsidian game made it central in the culture, science, religion, and social elements of the worlds.
Same for gods in the setting, with less in-universe understanding.
It’s a mythology heavy, yet “it’s part of the world, we work with it without too much awe, but a bit of respect towards those forces” approach.

As for Awoved itself, one of the hook is that you PC is a “Godlike”, a person “blessed” by a god of the setting before birth. Yet doesn’t know of which one.
Which is interesting. It’s very Planetscape Torment, Baldur’s Gate, identity centric. Obsidian is one of Interplay inheritor for a reason.

It’s also the exact kind of fantasy that I do not care for.

Although, I do appreciate that Obsidian just ripped off Morrowind: the plot is

“You are an envoy from an Empire sent into a remote island to try to understand/stop a plague, the local culture does not trust you or like the Empire encroachment. The place has political intrigues galore you will have to navigate and exploit to accomplish your mission. Also you might have a link to the fundamental mythology of it all.”

Which is the best kind of plot for an RPG in my point of view, and I thought that for years now.
So I’m still a bit hyped.

Well, well, well… lol.

I don’t know if it’s always been definitively confirmed that Indy was gonna be an Xbox Exclusive, but it certainly felt like that for me, outside-looking-in. Massive cinematic IP, action game by Bethesda, would be a mssive draw for Xbox – if they had the legs for it these days anyway.

But this is pretty wild.
Video opens with the Xbox logo, ends with the Xbox logo, but riiight near the end, confirmation of a PS5 version…

The gaming landscape is turning into something weird but I’m all here for it
