Freelancer - Pre-Release Discussion

Maybe I’m the only one here, but I don’t feel the vibe about Freelancer. I was more excited for the new map (Ambrose Island) released in past July.
I didn’t have the opportunity to play Freelancer CTT (as I played H3 on PS4) but I’ve watched gameplay videos about it (I don’t care about being spoiled) and it didn’t convince me.

I know that many concerns were addressed (notably in the last IOI’s news). I’m welcoming some changes like:

  • Addition of base payout (playing a mission without rewards is quite frustrating in such mode).
  • Insta-lockout buffed (grace period could help to manage with such situations).
  • Number of suspects have been sclaed down (having to compare between 12 suspects, all of them alerted and suspicious would be a tough job).
  • Balancing some challenges: everybody doesn’t have the time to be commited on playing Hitman. To be honest, I do hope that there is no reward attached to those challenges!

Still, I’m not excited for Freelancer. I enjoy Hitman because it allows me to play a mission and finish it in a short period of time. Because of job and family, I can’t play it every time. It’s not like a mutliplayer game where you must be commited to them to get the same items as the others…
At first sight, Freelancer seems to take this road. Playing a single campaign seems to be quite long (several hours) and I don’t know if I’m ready for this.

But I’ll give a chance to Freelancer and test it. Maybe I’ll start to appreciate this gamemode as much as I love the Hitman game in general.

From what I understand you don’t need to do it all in one go. You can freely close the game when inside the safehouse between missions and continue the campaign at another time.

^ This. I played the CTT, and you can just play one contract and return to play the next whenever you’re up to it. You don’t have to play the campaign in one go, that would be brutal and inconsiderate.

There was a bug in the CTT where exiting to the menu from the Safehouse halved your Merces like you failed, but that has most definitely been fixed.

The recent announcement did say that it covers most of the changes that have been made, which days to me that there are other things they’ve fixed that they didn’t share yet, and will probably be revealed when the mode launches, or we’re so insignificant that it’s not necessary to tell us they fixed them.

The blog post more detailed the specific changes they made in response to feedback not a patch notes. Fixes like this are more classed as a bug and we likely won’t get a report on this which makes sense. I hope we do though.

That’s true, good point, I forgot that detail. If that Merces-halving restart glitch has been addressed, then by that logic, they were already aware of it before/during the CTT and were already addressing it, and knew that it wouldn’t affect their study of CTT.

They could’ve also been made aware of it by feedback from the CTT. Which is also perfectly fine and was what I was getting at.

The blog post detailed the main changes to the mode from feedback, not bugs fixed from feedback. There’s countless things I reported that were definitely not intended.

I agree with you. Fortunately, a break can be made between missions. But from what I recall from gameplay videos, it sounds like when we’ve started a mission, we can’t go back to the menu without side effects (alerted territories or even failed campaign).
But maybe I’m wrong… and I’m victim of a false memory . I would appreciate if CTT players can confirm or infirm this affirmation.

On the other side, I appreciate that each level of Freelancer mastery seems to require the same amount of XP. Going up in mastery wouldn’t be as harsh as current multiplayer games propose (where last levels require insane amount of XP).

That’s correct. There’s no way to save the game when on a mission. Closest to that functionality out there is the Alt+F4 exploit.

Thx for your answer!

I think they probably will change the title screen to reflect the WoA rebrand. I wonder if they’ll go a bit further with the rebrand and do things like remove the red lines in Destinations separating the three games’ locations, move Ambrose Island to between Whittleton Creek and Isle of Sgail, change the ICA Facility back to going into The Showstopper for the “next mission” tile, redesign the campaign, mastery and challenges tab to just be one big thing including all the locations instead of separating 2016, 2, and 3. I also wonder if they’ll still even bother advertising the carryover from Hitman 2 on the title screen.

Probably/ although, I will miss the original. I’ve had it as the wallpaper on my laptop for the last two and a half years.

Genuinely hoping they’ll keep the old title screen.
I really like that one, and I really dislike the new one.

It seems to be leaning that way as all 3 games are merging as part of the update. I will really miss the Hitman 3 main title picture though I must admit.

I just hope we can alternate the main menu theme between all 3 games. Personally, the Hitman 3 main menu theme is my favourite as it has the darker feel to it. It could be that IOI have a new theme as part of the update that replaces all 3 themes I don’t know?

I’ve heard people suggest “Theme Select” features and yeah, if IOI are planning post-Freelancer Updates I would really like theme selection options for your menus as part of them. The dark, foreboding menu of Hitman 3 doesn’t necessarily suit the entire World of Assassination.

Never thought about it before, but if they were to make multiple theme options, a humorous one (that aligns with their goofier side), would be great.

I just need like Haven Island 47 laying in a beach chair with ‘press X to start under it’ :joy:.
