Elusive Target #9: THE HEARTBREAKER (Year 4, 16 - 26 February 2024)

I’m really hoping ET Arcade let’s me have another go at this guy. My first round with him, I shot him in the head with the goldballer, but in hindsight, I’d like to kill him in an accident with one of the pieces of wine making equipment. All pretty gruesome, and this Madison Cawthorn lookalike really deserves it.

So here’s my run. It was as ehh as you’d expect. Though his bugged-out route after handing the NPC the notebook was entertaining.

It’s the first time I see #2 mentioned in an elusive target announcement. Despite having killed the Heartbreaker around New Years (after having missed him in summer) it appears I’ll still be able to play this one. Any info? New route, new mechanics that make the mission different enough for it to feel like a whole new experience?

I think it’s just a way for IOI to get around their own system. Usually if you passed or failed the ET, it would be locked from you forever. No retries or experimentation.

But with this #2, everyone including new players will be able to play it (again).
Ehhh… I guess it’s ok since it won’t have any complications added to it, but IOI put themselves in this situation in the first place.
Very interested to see if they evolve the concept of ET Arcade in the future. If the limited ones are still being run (manually?) And there’s permanent ones with new complications, I wonder if we’ll ever be able to just play them with no time frills or additions.

The Heartbreaker MK. 2 is canon now! Comes with the revered style of the MK.2 line : a pink sticker slapped onto his back. :B

Something tells me this is just full round of reactivations for Steam players. And already a third one for Epic players, as well as for other platforms. So I expect no changes at all, except maybe some cosmetics, like eyepatch for resurrected Faba

Remember when they used to advertise ETs during H1 as “one chance, don’t miss”? Yeah… that’s well and truely dead if they’re giving people multiple chances to try the mission.

Why are they releasing Heartbreaker MK2 when they still haven’t done an ET for Miami, Santa Fortuna, and Whittleton Creek? For players that started with Hitman 3 back in January 2021, they still haven’t had the opportunity to unlock these three ET suits.

100% agreed on this. I’m back on Steam today and have been able to port my H2 unlocks across at last after a year of not having them, but for new players the complete impossibility to have a chance at earning the ET suits for Miami, Colombia and Whittleton really, really sucks.

If IOI want to grow their fanbase long term, I really think they should spend more time thinking about granular little details like this and how they could affect their perception with a raft of new Hitman players coming on board.

The Heartbreaker #2!? God damn it. Looks like we haven’t punished Philo Newcombe enough last time. I wonder how different this will be being number 2.

You still have one single chance to play the Elusive Target. Nothing changed, if you succeed or failed, that’s it, no second chances.
Reactivation gives those players literally nothing, they receive no benefits from reactivations.
Reactivation is for those who never played ET. Never tried, never knew etc.
That makes ET playable for as much audience as possible and equals chances to try and makes it fair.
Let’s say I’ve been on vacation or didn’t have the game at all when some ET was live. I couldn’t play it in any circumstances. And I would’ve been punished for my vacation or misknowledge that this content exists. With the reactivation the chance to play this ET for me appears, and that’s entire up to me how I’ll play it: successfully or not

If I’m not mistaken, we are talking about a “#2” ET rather than a reactivation. The difference being that a reactivated ET is the same event made available again (locked for those who already failed/completed) whereas a #2 version creates an entirely new event which is playable by everyone.

In my view, #2 ETs are the worst of both worlds. New players are told they have failed the “#1” version which had already passed before they owned the game. Existing players who completed the ET first time round feel compelled to play it again even if they don’t really want to.

#2 ETs compromise the one-chance nature of Elusive Targets. New players and existing players alike would be better served by reactivations. The only advantage I can see (from IOI’s perspective) is that #2 ETs will pad out the ‘live service’ content for year 2 in a superficial way which requires no additonal work.

Remember The Undying Returns? Well, that’s the same.
I have nothing to say why IOI’s doing that.
I have only one guess: ET system does not allow to launch past ETs just like they are brand new for all players. That’s why the clones being created. Old players just get a so called another reactivation, new players get the chance to play ETs on new platform.
Single problem here are those who failed the originals. They indeed get the chance to try again, and that ruins the core of Elusive Targets.
But this might be the only one way out, so the devs didn’t have another choice.
Personally I would have decided to have this situation, rather than just ignoring new platform and new players on it. So I can understand this tough decision.
But hey, there always be those dissatisfied whatever decision or move you make

Why do they need to launch past ETs just like they are brand new? Reactivations would be better, no?

Let’s ask the devs this question
If they haven’t done such, probably they can’t do so.
Why? Again, the devs needs to be asked

They literally just did such. The last reactivation of the previous roadmap ended 2 days ago.

It was an old platform.
Now the new one appeared

So IOI were able to reactivate ETs on Epic, Playstation, Xbox, Stadia and Switch, but you think the same might not be possible on Steam? What?!
