Ask HMF anything

Does it need to specifically be an American user? I’m in the UK and Arma 2 is on the British Steam store front.

Yup. The thing is, there are two Steam versions of the game: 33900 (the US/NA one) and 33910 (the ROW one which I myself have). For whatever reason, only 33900 has a Steam page, but you will still get 33910 if you are outside of the US.

As a result, while I own the game and Steam acknowledges that when I visit the game´s store page (pic 1), it will still show it as unowned and available to buy in the bundles etc. (pic 2 where you can see it is shown as wishlisted and not in library). But if I try to buy it, it will fail because I already “own” it.

On a practical level, there isn´t really a problem since both versions are identical (aside from language options), I do own the game and can play it no problem. It´s just kinda annoying that it shows up like this and that clicking on the game´s store page button in the library will redirect me to the store´s main page (it´s been like this apparently for at least a decade, and I have no idea why BIS never bothered to fix it).

I just want to know if the 33900 version can actually be purchased/gifted if you have a US-based Steam account, or if you get the 33910 version no matter what

OK, I think I understand. I’m looking at the Arma 2 store page in the Steam app right now logged in, and it says it is displaying the 33900 version. So not sure if the UK is also an exception?

Pretty sure, since my friend who has a UK Steam account and bought it while living there has it the same way.

Like I mentioned, the Steam app/store will only display the 33900 version no matter where you are (because 33910 has no page of its own), but once you actually buy it, it will be the 33910 version. Notex tried it for me in Australia back in March.

But of course, you can still give it a try and buy it for yourself to double-check if you feel like it, and then just refund it  Verifying never hurts.

Oh, on a side note, would you mind checking if Arma: Combat Operations shows up as purchasable in the UK? I presume they removed it from sale everywhere back in April, but just in case… (you might have to go through Google if it doesn´t show up in the store search).

(I would kindly ask anyone else who reads this to check as well please  )

I bought it and had a look. If I’m in the library page, have Arma 2 up, and click to go to the store page, Steam doesn’t like that and it just sends me back to the Steam store main page. If I go to community though, it sends me to the 33910 community page.

Had a look and yeah, Combat Operations is delisted and not for sale in the UK as well.

I “friend invited” you on Steam. Add me and I’ll send you the game, friendo.

How do we know @Rimland isn’t on Valve’s payroll?

sorry rimland

Sorry @Rimland, this does not work.

Yup, as expected. Thanks for trying though.

Shoot. Guess I´ll have to try the Andy Dufraisne tactic on Bohemia…

By the measly conditions of my living and the state of my bank account

Ah, darn it… Guess it´s either all defaulted to the 33910 version or it doesn´t recognise the differences. Thanks a lot for giving it a go, at least now I know. I wish Bohemia fixed this, it´ll be annoying as hell seeing that “unowned” item all the time…

I have a question to the people here who know something about fitness :grimacing: so maybe @Norseman or @badeaguard? Or anyone else who is not a lazy couch potato like me

With all the training stuff and 47s new fighter outfit, something came to my mind.

I have absolutely no clue about fitness and gaining muscles. But I often see fitness influencers eating something like this, as a shake or they add it to their meals:

My question is: if this is necessary to gain muscles, do you think Grey and 47 eat this, too?

I say not and also yes. Protein shakes are just something to add for a better diet balance or more protein intake. My philosophy.
As a started my only suggestion is just hit the gym. Do what you can, take it easy and let’s say after a year focus more on perfecting how you eat and how hard you train.

But you have to start from somewhere so don’t go directly into crazy diet but try to eat better and still give your self a treat a day like a mars bar or something sweet :man_shrugging:
Fun fact is that 47 for me was my first motivation to hit the gym and! Remember that first trailer of Hitman where we see him running in the snow? Well I always hated running till I saw 47 doing it :joy: And now I love it. I always have in mind to be that kinda perfect machine.

About protein shakes I usually take it right after workout or if not I take it first thing when I wake up for breakfast the day after workout that I don’t train.
I think it’s way more important the vitamins you take than the proteins.

Hmmmm hard to tell. I see 47 as someone always on the move and from what I can tell from the body he has now, he gives me the impression of someone who does most of the things only with his body weight at home focusing more on aerobics. Occasionally hitting the gym maybe 3 or 5 times a months. I have this vision of him.
Makes sense. Someone in his position needs to be faster than his pray or even more faster if he has to run away from danger.

About running, shoes type are very important. Don’t go for Nike or other similar brands.
I am using Asics for years now and I love them. It feels like running on clouds.
They are a good investment and a very good pair cost around 150€ discounted or even less.
Also alternate with fast walking up hill. In my personal experience that made burn fat the fastest and gain stamina at the same time too. Walk about 3 to 5 km 2 times or 3 times a week but it really has to be uphill like when you walk you feel your abs working among with your legs.

And last thing, don’t wait. Go tomorrow, don’t plan. Just go.
If you don’t do it now you will never do it.

Oh thank you for the detailed answer! I have to admit that aside from some Yoga and Pilates I am not so much into sports anymore, but I personally am fine with that  But it is indeed impressive what you did and so cool that you got inspired by 47! It’s always so heartening for me to hear when people get inspired by characters

I often hear people say that 47 was more muscular in older games. I have to say that I don’t see a difference, looking at his body from absolution and now, for example :see_no_evil:

In my headcanon, Grey does more weightlifting because he has a bigger chest than 47, and I guess that comes from lifting weights?

I suddenly had these 80s Jane Fonda aerobic videos in my head, but I guess that’s not what you mean

This is where it started for me.

Absolution had that body of strong like a brick layer

Okay that six pack from absolution is bigger than I remembered

But aside from some more defined muscles, his body now looks kinda the same to me. I mean his forum, you know?

He was more “bulkier” in the older games, like the shots you posted from Contracts

He is way slimmer now but let’s not forget 47 is in his 60s.
Looks good regardless. I like his body and after seeing him half naked I could only wish to look the same when I reach that age :smirk:

By the way, me and 47 have the same small calves

Eh, late 50s, by the time of Freelancer. He’ll be 60 in September of this year.

my ps5 controller now has so severe stick drift it’s unusable. has anyone experienced this? what’s the best move from here? should I just bite the bullet and get a new one and hope it doesn’t also get it.

I’ve had every playstation since ps1, don’t know how many controllers I’ve gone through, but this has never been an issue for me before. dualsense is straight trash.

You should look for controllers which use the Hall effect. However Sony and MS are not interested because they make money with this drift problem. There is a company called Gulikit however not sure if there is a ps5 version. Nacom have a pro controller but it is pricey.

However I did not tested any of them.

thanks for the advice. I’m definitely not going to buy a controller for 200 dollars, fuck that. guess I’ll just get another standard one and hope for the best. :frowning:
