Announcing New Elusive Target: The Drop (Active, 12th September- 14th October 2024)

I’d love for it to be set outside the gas station. The reason why it’s called The Drop is because the target is refusing to buy gas until the price drops.

I thought of adding an option for back and forth between the two but decided against it since it’s pretty awkward and long for NPCs to go between the two locations and he’d easily isolate himself on two staircases since nobody goes up and down the stairs.

I forget what the nickname is but that safety inspector guy in Berlin had a pretty long route didn’t he? I think if they added a few guards to various places, maybe added some cameras, or had some enforcer guards that followed him around they could make a fairly long route work. We’ll see though!

I think he’d have a consistent loop starting at either locations you’ve said but maybe when he’s taking breaks he’ll try and push some drugs on people around the bar area maybe? It wasn’t hugely utilized in the main mission so it would be nice to see

Terrence Chesterfield, The Liability. Apart from the start of his route at the Juice Bar (which he repeats twice before going elsewhere), yeah he route is pretty long, goes all around the club.

I could see the target be in the DJ booth, and maybe a loop to the bar.

And I could see either a secondary objective or a story mission like the one in the Rage ET happening in the biker hangout.

I do think it is important to remember that according to the Easter Egg Berlin mission variation, the Berlin MC have moved their operations out of their compound but the question remains whether this is a continuity in this ET mission or perhaps the Drop will use the empty space as an entire area for his band?

I know it’s highly unlikely, but it would be nice if IO “redesigned” the gas station to be opened up to be actually utilized for a secondary mission for this ET.

Recovery or “theft” of some important documents/objects relating to the ET that is required for mission accomplishment.

A guy can wish, right…

I would like the Gas Station to get more use - whether it be an Elusive Target, or a snow based Bonus Mission (something kinda like Dartmoor Garden Show).

Regardless, I am excited for The Drop and am looking forward to how it plays out. I hope there are plenty of opportunities.

I still think that the Gas Station was such a wasted opportunity for the main mission.

It would have been grand if we could enter it to gather some improvised material, tools from inside. To show this side of 47.

And even if we go for “we want you to have to improvise on the go, in the level” design, which is more than fair, I could see the gas station use the shortcut mechanic : a key is hidden in the level, you can find it, and then use it to permanently open the station. Then on consequent play through, you have it to have some fun.

(then again, it’s because I played the level a lot, and it would have broken the entire progression, so maybe have it a a mastery level 20 unlock, making it like Hokkaido is in essence, just diegetic)

All I wish for with the gas station in Berlin is that, like the story entrances for Dubai and Mendoza, we could select whatever outfit we wanted, rather than having one assigned. Aside from that, I doubt IOI ever intended the gas station to get any real use.

The only reason that it’s a problem is that it’s so isolated and out of the way. They could easily have started the story mission at the hole in the fence and left the whole gas station part out of the map entirely and it really wouldn’t have changed much.

The gas station could have been shown in a cut scene and been entirely inaccessible in-level and no one would have mentioned it. The fact that IOI used it as an actual part of the map made it an issue to be discussed. The few uses for it (the alien abduction exit, the three little pigs escalation, Satu Mare) were little things that didn’t really make any significant difference.

As a story element it was fine, but as a map element, it was wasted.

I’m glad that the gas station and the forest are part of the map. They’re great for taking pictures!

And now after reading the recent suggestions in here, I absolutely want the gas station open, busy, and included in some bonus mission or ET.

I am pretty sure that was precisely IOI’s intent, just like with the default starting points in Dubai, Chongqing, Mendoza. These starting points serve as an introduction to the locations, are limited in certain ways for the immersion and plot reasons (no loadout in Dubai and Berlin, agents not marked in Berlin + agent Price as mini-tutorial, mandatory core objective in Chongqing, targets not marked in Mendoza before the conversation with Diana) and are intentionally located very far from the actual missions’ layouts.

And the next unlockable starting points on these missions are basically the same as the default ones, just with all the unnecessary steps skipped and all the limitations removed. They are more attractive as they don’t require you to run for half a minute just to get in the actual mission, so players wouldn’t pick it again and wouldn’t be forced to deal with the tedious stuff like the core objective in Chongqing.

It absolutely was IOI’s intent, agreed.

If only the Radio Tower start was like that.

New trailer for The Drop

The trailer imagery isn’t always true to the actual mission, but the target appears in the DJ booth and the biker area. There are also shots of the bar area, the balcony over the dance floor, and a few others I didn’t quite clock. That could indicate a pretty big loop for this guy.

This is strictly just a promo video. Can’t take anything as fact. Briefings also show targets in places they won’t be.

As we’ve said many times before, the entire appeal and joke of The Undying/ Returns is that he is voiced and played by Sean Bean; someone who is very well known for dying in media; Removing him from the equation kills that joke and the entire metacontextual point of humour and point of being. Not only that, but it’d deprive us of his lovely Yorkshire accent.

I don’t think IOI are gonna Captain Ersatz him anytime soon, in part because they legally may not be able to, but also for the reasons above. I want him back too, but a recast seems unlikely to be on the cards.

This isn’t the “Secret Invasion titles made by AI makes it clever” level of Meta, where an off-hand comment by the artists make it meta and therefore justified, this is a blinding robot obvious meta joke at play here that isn’t at all subtle as to why Bean has been cast. And we love it for that. Sean Bean, IOI, and everyone else is in on that joke and is parodying it. Replacing him would be a disservice to everyone involved.
